Yurasits Named Men’s Basketball Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar-athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.

The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.

Lukas Yurasits is the third Susquehanna University men’s basketball athlete to win the award, and second straight. He joins Joel Patch (2009) and former teammate Bryce Butler (2021). Additionally, he is the second River Hawk this academic year to be selected, joining Lizzie Herestofa of the women’s volleyball program.

The senior helped SU to a 24-6 overall mark, tying for the school record in victories for a year. Susquehanna earned the Landmark Conference title for the second time in three seasons, as Yurasits was named to the Landmark Conference First Team after leading the squad in scoring. Yurasits needed just three seasons to get to 1,000 points for his career, finishing with 1,006 as he registered the accomplishment in the NCAA Tournament Second Round against No. 4 Christopher Newport University.

The New York native posted a 3.94 grade point average as a double-major in both chemistry and physics. He has earned a spot on the Susquehanna University Dean's List every semester at SU, while also earning the Sigma Nu Tau scholarship. Earlier this week, Yurasits became only the fifth player in Susquehanna University men's basketball history to earn Academic All-American accolades and the first since 1994. Yurasits joins Mike Scheib (1977, 1978), Donald Harnum (1986), Tony Balistrere (1993) and Tres Wolf (1994) on the exclusive list. Yurasits is also just the 35th Susquehanna student-athlete to earn the honor in school history.
