Colella Named Women's Golf Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar-athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.
Catholic University senior Mary Colella is the first Cardinal to be selected as the Landmark's Women's Golf Senior-Scholar Athlete.
Colella was a steady player for the Catholic women's golf program, placing no lower than fourth at the conference championships. As a freshman, she was named the Landmark Rookie of the Year after placing second at the Women's Golf Championship and was named to the First Team.
At the 2021 Landmark championship, Colella shot an 80 to capture First Team honors along with being named the Landmark Player of the Year. She helped the Cardinals capture the team title that earned the conference automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament, where Catholic carded a 273.
She concluded her career by shooting a 36-hole career-best 163 at this year's championship while placing fourth and earning her third First Team All-Landmark honor.
The Secondary Education major graduated from Catholic with a 3.92 grade point average and made the Dean's List with Distinction. She was a two-time Landmark Spring Academic Honor Roll selection and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Academic Honor Society. Additionally, she was part of Phi Eta Sigma, the nation's oldest and largest honor society for first-year students.
Colella also volunteered at Catholic's mother Teresa day of Service and MLK Day of Service.
