Richards Named Women's Lacrosse Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar-athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.

The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.

Catholic University senior Clare Richards is the sixth Cardinal to be selected as the Landmark’s Women’s Lacrosse Senior-Scholar Athlete. She joins Yasmeen Ajdari (2014), Tori Neill (2015), Clair Schmitzer (2017), and former teammates Erin Dugan (2019), and Anna Maupin (2021).

Richards was a member of the Cardinal women’s lacrosse program that won three straight titles during her four-year stint. The conference canceled the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to being selected as an All-Landmark First Team performer, Richards has earned Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Region First Team honors twice and was named a First Team All All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine.

She closed out her playing career this past spring and ranked second on the team with 53 draw controls, sixth with 12 caused turnovers, and seventh with 17 goals. She ranks seventh in program history with 174 career draw controls.

Off the field, Richards served as Catholic’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s (SAAC) President (2021) and Vice President (2020) while also serving as a Campus Ministry Service Corps leader. She was heavily involved in campus events, including volunteering at Franciscan Monastery, Halloween on Campus, Special Olympics D.C. Polar Plunge, Brookland Field Day, Spring to CUA, Girls in Action, Mother Theresa Day of Service, and MLK Day of Service.

The Bethesda, Maryland native graduated from Catholic with a degree in Nursing and a 3.82 grade point average.
