Schaaf Named Men's Outdoor T&F Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar-athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.

The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.

Christian Schaaf of Elizabethtown College is the second Blue Jays to be selected as the Landmark's Outdoor Track & Field Senior-Scholar Athlete. He joins Matt Pysher (2018).

A distance specialist, Schaaf made his mark as an outstanding performer for Etown throughout his career. He is a three-time All-Landmark performer and has five top-10 finishes.

This past year, Schaaf closed out his outdoor career by setting a new 5,000m race championship record at the conference championship and was the 10,000m race gold medalist. Additionally, he set a new school and Landmark record in the 5,000m at the 126th Penn Relays with a time of 14:14.38.

Earlier this year, he was also named the Landmark Cross Country Senior Scholar-Athlete.

In the classroom, the Phoenixville, Pa. native graduated from Elizabethtown with a 3.98 grade point average with a Communications and Graphic design degree. He is a three-time Landmark Spring Academic Honor Roll selection, a four-time United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honoree, and made Etown's Dean's List four times.

In the classroom, Elliott is a physics and mathematics major with an impressive 4.00 cumulative grade point average and was a three-time Landmark Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll selection.

Schaaf will compete at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 5,000m.
