TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.
During the fall season, field hockey, soccer, and volleyball will be announced on Monday, followed by cross country, golf, and tennis on Tuesday.
Men's Cross Country - Toby Gaynor (Drew)
Gaynor ran the second-fastest time in school history for 8,000 meters, clocking a 26:21 to finish 10th out of 237 runners at the Lebanon Valley Invitational. In just his second race at Drew and his first 8K, the junior transfer became the first Ranger to break 27 minutes in 11 years while finishing just four seconds behind the school record set by Gordon Kenny in 1992.
Women's Cross Country - Melissa Fitzgibbon (Elizabethtown)
Elizabethtown graduate student Melissa Fitzgibbon looked strong and ran well in Saturday's Blue Jay Alumni Challenge. Fitzgibbon won the race in 17:25.60 for her first career individual win. She helped lead the Blue Jays to a dual meet win over the alumni squad.
Women's Golf - Victoria Dowling (Scranton)
Dowling matched a program record with a 78 (+6) as the Royals rolled past Misericordia in a dual match win on Sunday. The junior is one of three players in program history to card a 78 and this marks the second time she accomplished the feat.
Men's Tennis - Josh Sanderson (Susquehanna)
Sanderson helped Susquehanna start its 2022-23 season with a 7-2 win over Penn College. As the No. 1 player for the River Hawks, he posted victories at No. 1 singles and doubles. In doubles play, he teamed with John Duncan to defeat Paul Langbein and Kyle Shuler 8-2. In singles, he outlasted Langbein 4-6, 6-2, 11-9.
Women's Tennis - Aaliyah Ybarra (Goucher)
Aaliyah Ybarra picked up singles and doubles wins in a 5-4 win over Rutgers-Camden as the Gophers rallied after trailing 2-1 after doubles. She earned an 8-0 win with Shelby Meek at No. 3 doubles, then was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 6 singles.
