SCRANTON, Pa.—The Elizabethtown College baseball team kept their Landmark Conference Championship dreams alive this morning as they knocked out Catholic, 6-3.
The Blue Jays fall to 31-10 on the season which is their most wins in a season since the team went 33-11 in 1994.
The Elizabethtown Blue Jays stayed alive for another game as they defeated Catholic, 6-3 to eliminate them from the Landmark Conference Championship Tournament. Catholic scored first in the third off a sacrifice fly. Etown answered back in the bottom half of the inning. Ben Watson doubled down the left field line and advanced on a single bunt by David Woolley. Watson scored off Robbie Bertucio's sacrifice fly. The Cardinals added another run in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead.
Etown again responded in the bottom half of the inning to lock it up at 2-2. Watson again led off the inning with a single and advanced on a single bunt. Watson then advanced on a ground out to third and scored on a sacrifice fly. The Blue Jays got it going in the sixth scoring three runs on three hits to take a 5-2 lead over Catholic.
Elizabethtown tacked on another run in the seventh as James Vito got to first after being hit by a pitch. Vito then advanced to third after two ground outs. Garrett Schwartzbeck singled to right field to bring home Vito. Catholic knocked a solo homerun in the eighth to cut the Blue Jays lead to 6-3. The final inning was scoreless as Etown won, 6-3.
