ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.—The Elizabethtown College baseball team's three runs in the first inning were not enough to hold off Lebanon Valley as the Dutchmen scored a run in each of the final five innings to win, 5-4.
The Blue Jays end the season with a 31-13 overall record while the Dutchmen improve to 29-16-1 and move on to play this evening at 6:00 PM.
Elizabethtown started things off by scoring three of their four runs in the top of the first. David Woolley led off the inning with a double to left field. Senior, Ben Watson then singled to advance Woolley. Graduate student, Robbie Bertucio singled to center field bringing home Woolley. Mason Woolwine hit an RBI single to center field to score Watson. Etown scored their third run of the inning off an error by the right fielder.
Lebanon Valley scored their first run off a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth, cutting Etown's lead to 3-1. The Dutchmen added another run in the fifth to come within one of the Blue Jays. LVC tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth off a single.
Etown answered back in the seventh scoring a run to retake the lead. Garrett Schwartzbeck knocked a triple to right field and then scored on a wild pitch. Lebanon Valley again locked up the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh. Etown would load the bases in the eighth and ninth but was unable to capitalize. LVC scored the winning run in the eighth off an RBI double.
