Burton Chosen as Baseball Senior Scholar-Athlete

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference selects 23 senior scholar-athletes annually, recognizing student-athletes in each sport, and considering both academic and athletic achievements.

Senior Scholar-Athlete History

These honorees must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are chosen by a committee comprising Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, athletic communications personnel, and diversity, ethnicity, and inclusion designees.

Zach Burton of Catholic University is the 2024 Landmark Conference Baseball Senior Scholar-Athlete. Burton is the second Cardinal in a row to win the award after Ben Nardi won in 2023.


Burton, a graduate first baseman for the Cardinals, completed the best season of his athletic career in 2024, earning All-Landmark Second Team honors at first base. Burton played in 46 games for the Cardinals who reached the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in program history. The Pennsylvania native hit .381, record an on-base percentage of .537 while slugging 19 doubles, eight home runs and driving in 47 runs. For the season, Burton totaled 64 hits and 50 runs scored while drawing more than double the amount of walks as times struck out in 2024.

The veteran made his presence felt in the Catholic single-season record books, ranking third in hits, third in doubles, third in runs scored, fourth in walks, fifth in homers, and seventh in RBI. Nationally, Burton ranks 13th in doubles, 19th in on-base percentage, 19th in hit by pitch, and 26th in walks. Burton's career numbers will stand the test of time with more than 150 career hits, nearly 140 runs scored, over 100 runs driven in, and nearly 60 extra-base hits.

Academically, Burton graduated from Catholic's Busch School of Business with a degree in Sports Management & Sales in 2023 with a 3.8 GPA. He is currently in pursuit of a Master's Degree in Sales Management and has a GPA of 3.93. The team captain has previous intern experience with Neuronetics Inc. in Malvern, Pa. and has worked for the Catholic Athletics Game Operations staff since 2020.
