Friday Focus with Alana Moore

TOWSON, Md. – Every Friday, the Landmark Conference spotlights one of our standout student-athletes in the Friday Focus series. This week’s feature highlights Goucher College women’s swimming student-athlete Alana More. From pre-meet bagels to relay-day energy, Alana shares what makes her time with the Gophers so memorable.

Favorite pregame routine or superstition?
I always eat a plain bagel with cream cheese before a meet.

What’s your favorite moment with your team?
I love the conversations at team dinners after practice.

How do you stay focused during busy weeks?
I usually go to bed early, by 11 pm. I try to get my schoolwork done during the afternoon before practice. Around 12:30, I get lunch with my friends for a mid-day break.

Who’s a teammate that leads by example?
Kan Jarvis

What does your sport teach you about life?
It teaches me that it's okay to lose. I won't be the best in life, and don't need to win everything in life. I can still do my best time, even if I get last place. In life, I can still get to where I need to go, and it will take time; I don't need to go really fast. I can get there at a slower pace.

Favorite hobby or activity outside of your sport?
Hiking, exploring cities, shopping, and trying new things

How do you celebrate big wins?
Party time!

What will you miss most when your swim career ends?
The bus rides to meets/conferences. I love riding with my team all together, sometimes the bus ride is a shared experience that can be very loud or very quiet.

What’s your favorite part of meets?
Relays are my favorite events to do. They are so much, and I love swimming very fast in them and getting hyped up/warm up with other teammates in the relay.

First sport you ever played?
Soccer

Favorite team tradition?
Secret psycher: The women's team writes little good luck notes to someone else on the team, and we get them some snacks.

Favorite moment with fans or family in the stands?
When my mother brought a big head for one of my swim meets. The big head was a picture of me when I was little.

Favorite Landmark Conference memory so far?
Singing songs before the last relay on the last day with my teammates and everyone else. I love the energy on the pool deck.
