Catholic Men's Swimming and Diving Wins School Record Ninth Straight Conference Title

BALTIMORE, Md. – Nine straight Landmark Conference crowns have been awarded to the Catholic University men's swimming and diving team after a historic performance at the championship meet. The Cardinals scored 874.5 points to top the leaderboard by over a 100-point margin.

Nine straight championships is a new school record for consecutive championships, passing women's lacrosse, which has a current streak of eight straight dating back to 2014. The Cardinals are now tied with Merchant Marine for the conference record of nine total titles.

Head coach John Bodden's team won seven gold medals in 2025 en route to claim a total of 24 over the four-day meet, the most of any team. Scranton followed the Cardinals as the runner-up with 751.5 points and 11 medals. Drew rounded out the top three, scoring 681 points and earning 22 medals.

Catholic recorded six top-three finishes during the final day of competition to hold on for the victory. 

Sean Kelty started the final session off in an exciting fashion. The sophomore broke the 1650 free conference and championship meet record, besting his record of 16:09.41 set at this meet a year ago. Shawn Mashburn followed in fourth with a time of 16:23.48. 

Teddy Tsakumis entered the 200-back final as the favorite after setting a new personal best in the prelims. The sophomore dropped even more time during his final swim to defend his title and win the event for the second consecutive season with a time of 1:53.09.  

Jack Thompson, James Caldwell, and Daniel Green all qualified for the 100 free final and finished in succession. Thompson clocked a 47.30 for fourth, Caldwell finished in fifth with a 47.68 while Green followed in sixth with a 47.70. 

The 200 breast final featured Jackson Hicks, Bill Purcell, and John Holler. Hicks was in contention until the very end, touching second with a time of 2:04.37. Purcell swam a 2:08.26 for fourth and Holler claimed fifth with a 2:10.20. 

Every Cardinals that was entered in the 200 fly qualified for the final including Vincent Wills, Benjamin Lutcher, and Aidan Malvey. Wills earned a silver medal with a time of 1:54.25 while Lutcher took bronze with a 1:54.62. 

Catholic wrapped up the event with a second-place finish in the 400 free relay. Holler, Daniel Green, James Caldwell, and Jack Thompson combined to produce a 3:09.34 and add the final 34 points to the Cardinal's score.

The Cardinals earned one major award on the men's side. Charles Connolly III won Diver of the Year for the third straight season after winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives.
