Scranton and Catholic to Host NCAA Women's Tournament Opening Weekend; Elizabethtown Earns At-Large Bid

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The University of Scranton and Catholic University will serve as hosts for the opening rounds of the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament, while Elizabethtown College earned an at-large bid and will travel to Randolph-Macon to face SUNY Brockport.

Scranton will host the first and second rounds on March 7-8 at the John Long Center. The first-round action begins with Southern Virginia facing Bates at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, followed by Scranton taking on Mount St. Mary (NY) at 6:45 p.m. The winners will meet in the second round on Saturday at 6:45 p.m.

Scranton secured its 10th consecutive Landmark Conference championship with an 85-62 win over Catholic. Tournament MVP Kaeli Romanowski recorded six points, 15 assists, and 12 rebounds—the third-most assists in a single game in program history. Meghan Lamanna led all scorers with 21 points, including five three-pointers, while Kaci Kranson added 17 points and nine boards. Kyra Quigley posted a career-high 16 points and six rebounds, and Maddie Hartnett contributed 12 points.

For the second time in program history, Catholic will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinals, making their seventh NCAA appearance and second straight, earned one of the 21 at-large bids in the 64-team field.

All first- and second-round games at Catholic will be played at Franny Murray Court. The Cardinals open against SUNY Geneseo on Friday, March 7, at 7 p.m., while Christopher Newport and Montclair State round out the four-team pod.

Catholic enters the tournament ranked 15th in the NPI after a 24-4 season that ended with a Landmark Conference title-game loss to Scranton. SUNY Geneseo (58th) earned an automatic bid by winning the Empire 8 Championship. Christopher Newport (20th) and Montclair State (52nd) add to a competitive opening-round field.

The Cardinals’ 24 wins are the third-most in program history. Leading scorer Anna Scoblick averages 14.0 points per game, while sharpshooter Kerry Flaherty set a Landmark Conference record with 81 made three-pointers this season. Keegan Douglas (11.6 ppg) and Carly Mulvaney (10.1 ppg) also average double figures for a Catholic squad that currently boasts the highest scoring average in program history. This will be the first-ever meeting between Catholic and SUNY Geneseo.

Elizabethtown, ranked #16/#18 nationally, secured an at-large bid despite a Landmark semifinal loss to Catholic. The Blue Jays (22-3, 16-2) will face SUNY Brockport on Friday at 4:45 p.m. at Randolph-Macon.

Elizabethtown, which finished among the top three in the conference in scoring and led the league in field-goal percentage (47.8%), is powered by Summer McNulty, Cyleigh Wilson, and DaniRae Renno, all averaging over nine points per game.
