Juniata's Joey Woodrow Named Landmark Baseball Senior Scholar-Athlete

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference selects 23 senior scholar-athletes annually, recognizing students in each sport and considering both academic and athletic achievements.

These honorees must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are chosen by a committee comprising Landmark Conference officers, athletic directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, athletic communications personnel, and diversity, ethnicity, and inclusion designees.

Juniata College’s Joey Woodrow has been selected as the Landmark Conference’s 2024-25 Baseball Senior Scholar-Athlete. He became the first baseball player from Juniata to earn the distinction and is the second Eagle to receive a Senior Scholar-Athlete honor this academic year.

A standout on the diamond, Woodrow wrapped up a stellar career having played in 124 games while totaling 125 hits and 74 RBIs. He earned First Team All-Landmark honors and was named to the All-Region Third Team in 2024, capping off a senior season that showcased both consistency and production at the plate.

In the classroom, Woodrow has excelled with a 3.99 GPA as a Chemistry major with minors in Biology and Bioethics. He earned Landmark Academic Honor Roll recognition in both 2023 and 2024 and conducted six semesters of undergraduate research. His work has been presented at local American Chemical Society (ACS) conferences and contributed to two in-progress manuscripts under the guidance of Dr. Baran. His academic accolades include the prestigious Rockwell Chemistry Prize (2025), the Charles C. Ellis Endowed Memorial Scholarship (2023), the Donald M. Rockwell Endowed Chemistry Scholarship (2024, 2025), and the ACS Award in Inorganic Chemistry (2025). He is also a member of the Gamma Sigma Epsilon Honor Society for Chemistry and Biochemistry and Chi Alpha Sigma, the national honor society for student-athletes.

Beyond his academic and athletic achievements, Woodrow has been a committed leader in service. He volunteered at the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania Fall Sectional hosted at Juniata for four consecutive years and organized teammates for a range of community outreach initiatives. These efforts included supporting campus blood drives, coordinating the team’s participation in the United Way Day of Caring—where they assisted a disabled resident with property maintenance—and helping clean local baseball fields following a severe storm in 2022.
