Moravian Women's Tennis Wins Thriller Over Catholic to Advance to 2026 Championship Match

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -The second-seeded Moravian University women's tennis team rallied from a 2-0 deficit for a 4-3 victory over third-seeded The Catholic University of America in the 2026 Landmark Conference Semifinals Thursday evening at the Lehigh University Lewis Indoor Tennis Center. 

How It Happened
  • The Cardinals captured the doubles points with victories at first and third doubles to take a 1-0 lead
  • Catholic opened singles action with a win at second singles to take a brief 2-0 edge. Moments later, freshman Natalia Smith recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win at third singles to cut the score to 2-1. Junior Sydney Shifman tied the contest at 2-2 with a 7-5, 6-1 triumph at fourth singles, while junior Leah Zolotareva put the Hounds ahead 3-2 with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at first singles that saw Zolotareva down 4-0 in the first set. The Cardinals evened the contest with a win at sixth singles. Freshman Kaelyn Balko posted a 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory at fifth singles to secure the victory for the Greyhounds
  • Moravian is heading to the Landmark Conference Championship match for the seventh consecutive tournament, dating back to 2019, and the Hounds will be looking for their first conference title since 2021 and an automatic berth to the 2026 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament
