Releases Fall All-Academic Team

MADISON, N.J. – The Landmark Conference has announced the selection of 32 student-athletes to the 2009 Fall Landmark All-Academic Team. Two male and two female athletes from each of the eight Landmark institutions were selected for the team which honors athletes who have excelled athletically and academically. Nominees could compete in any of the Landmark fall sports and must be a sophomore or older with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

The fall All-Academic Team features 14 seniors, 13 juniors and five sophomores. Six of the 32 honorees are earning Fall All-Academic honors for the second time, while a pair of honorees have earned the honor for a third time in their career. In addition all six fall sports sponsored by the Landmark Conference are represented with at least one student-athlete. The Landmark Conference will select an All-Academic Team for each of the three athletics seasons during the year.

Matt Hofrichter from Great River, N.Y. was a key performer for the Catholic men’s soccer team that claimed the Landmark Championship and earned an NCAA Tournament berth. He ranked fifth on the team with seven points (two goals, three assists) and was also a defensive presence in midfield. He is pursuing a degree in biology and has been a three-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll selection.

Helene Nicoletti of Haddonfield, N.J. was the Landmark Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Year as she helped the Cardinals earn the Landmark Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance. She made her second appearance on the Landmark All-Conference first team in anchoring the Cardinal defense. A nursing major, she has been a Dean’s List honoree in five of her six semesters at Catholic.

Katherine Sacker, a native of Catonsville, Md., has enjoyed a strong start to her career with the Catholic cross country team. She was an All-Conference pick in indoor and outdoor track last season and placed 17th at the Landmark Championships this fall. She is a nursing student and earned Dean’s List honors both semesters her freshman year and was named to the Phi Eta Sigma Nurses Freshman Honor Society.

Andrew Smith, a native of Arlington, Tenn., claims his second All-Academic selection after being honored in 2007. The senior was the top finisher for the Catholic cross country team throughout the season and earned All-Region honors with his 25th-place finish at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional. The electrical engineering major boasts a stellar GPA and is a three-time Academic Honor Roll choice.

Delia Barr of Palermo, NJ was a stalwart defender for the Drew field hockey for four seasons. A two-time All-Landmark First-Team choice and a second team selection this season, she started all 19 games this season and played in 68 during her career. Off the field, she is a three-time Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll performer as a political science major and Vice-President of Drew’s SAAC.

Vincent Costa of Stony Point, N.Y. finished his highly-productive career for the Drew men’s soccer team this season. A three-year starter in midfield he scored five goals with five assists over sixty-five career games and helped Drew to a Landmark Championship in 2007 and an ECAC title this season. A biochemistry major he earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors in his senior year.

Andrew Ehlert of Lebanon, N.J. has been a top performer for the Drew cross country team over three years. A two-time team MVP he helped the Rangers to their best team finish at the Landmark meet in 2009 with a top-30 individual finish. He is studying German and political science at Drew and has earned Academic Honor Roll distinction three times.

Kimberly Miranowic from Edison, N.J. earned first-team All-Conference honors in women’s soccer as a senior captain and helped Drew to its first Landmark postseason berth. She was a second-team All-Conference selection as a junior. Off the field she is a three-time Academic Honor Roll selection and will graduate with honors with a degree in sociology.

Julien Greco from Shutesbury, Mass. becomes a three-time All-Academic choice with this selection as he capped his strong career for the Goucher men’s soccer team. He scored four goals and added an assist in his senior year as a team captain. An international relations major, with a Spanish minor, he has twice been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team with the second selection coming this fall.

Galen Guindon, a native of Wallingford, Pa., earns a second All-Academic selection following his senior men’s soccer season for Goucher. He earned All-Conference honors for the second time this season after earning the selection as a sophomore. He earned Goucher’s Scholar Athlete Award (for juniors) last season and is a three-time recipient of the Rosenberg Music Scholarship for Performance as a music major.

Micki Manheimer of Falmouth, Maine, became the starting goalkeeper for Goucher in her sophomore season, starting all but one game. She earned three shutouts on the year and ranked third in the conference in saves per game with 5.18 per contest. She is a communications major and earned Landmark Academic Honor Roll distinction for the first time this fall.

Megan Smith of Honolulu, Hawaii claims All-Academic honors for the third time in her career after a standout career for the Gophers’ volleyball program. She is a three-time All-Conference honoree, and holds the Goucher records for career kills, and kills in both a season and a match. She is a three-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll choice and is pursuing a degree in biology with a minor in chemistry.

Maura Collins, a native of Painted Post, N.Y., was a four-year mainstay for the Juniata women’s soccer program including a starting role as a senior. She finished her career with four goals and four assists for 12 points. A three-time Academic Honor Roll choice she is studying elementary and special education and is a four-time Dean’s List selection. She’s also the President of Juniata Instructors of the Future.

Melissa Gorman of Boxborough, Mass. was the senior captain for Juniata field hockey team that won its third-straight Landmark title and made its third NCAA appearance in four seasons. She closed her career with seven points and five defensive saves as a back and midfielder. A member of the Pi Lambda Theta Teachers Honor Society she is pursuing a degree in elementary education and Spanish.

David Grim of Boalsburg, Pa. ranked third on the Juniata men’s soccer team in scoring in his sophomore season, earning six points with two goals and two assists. A political science major, he is the President of the Class of 2012 as part of the Juniata student government and is also a member of Juniata’s Sustainability Committee and is a student representative to Centre County’s Drug & Alcohol Planning Commission.

Andrew Steffen, from Lewisberry, Pa., was a first-team All-Conference pick as a senior, his second All-Conference selection, and was tops on the team in points while ranking second in the conference with four goals in Landmark play. He was a three-time Academic Honor Roll pick and will earn a degree in management in the spring. He also presented research at Juniata’s Liberal Arts Symposium.

Diana Feldmann, a native of York, Pa., has been a vital part of the Moravian soccer team in just two seasons. She earned first-team All-Conference honors as a defender in her sophomore season helping the Greyhounds record five shutouts and rank third in the conference in goals against average. She has yet to decide on a major but earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors this season.

Mary King of Paramus, N.J. earned first-team All-Conference selection on the volleyball court for the first time after being named the 2007 Landmark Volleyball Rookie of the Year. She led the Landmark in blocks and was among the leaders in kills and points. In the classroom King is pursuing a degree in nursing, and has been a three-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll selection.

Matthew Lutcza from Dingmans Ferry, Pa. was a top performer for the Moravian men’s cross country team in his sophomore year. He was the team’s top finisher at the Landmark Cross Country Championships, earning second-team All-Conference honors by placing eighth, improving eight places from the 2008 Championships. A computer science major, he earned Academic Honor Roll distinction this fall.

Blake Ritchey of Souderton, Pa. capped his senior season by earning second-team All-Conference honors for the Greyhound men’s soccer team. He was second on the team in goals while also anchoring the team’s defense which posted four shutouts on the season. The senior is working towards a degree in psychology and business management, and has earned Academic Honor Roll recognition three times in his career.

Michael Drew of Sellersville, Pa., enjoyed a strong season for the Scranton men’s soccer team and now claims a spot on the All-Academic Team. He captured second-team All-Landmark honors after leading Scranton with 20 points and has piled up 44 points in 53 matches for his career. He is studying exercise science at Scranton and his excellent GPA has twice earned him Landmark Academic Honor Roll status.

Stephanie Huth, a native of Willingboro, N.J., helped the Scranton women’s cross country team claim its first Landmark Championship this fall. She earned first-team All-Conference honors for the Royals at the 2009 Landmark Championship, her second All-Conference performance. This is her second All-Academic selection and she is a three-time Academic Honor Roll choice while studying elementary education.

Chelsea Paskman of Chalfont, Pa. has earned first-team All-Conference honors for the Scranton women’s soccer team each of her three seasons including earning Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year this season. She added All-Region honors as a sophomore and has 36 points in her career. She is a psychology major with a minor in criminal justice and has a pair of Landmark Academic Honor Roll selections.

Chris Wasnetsky from Dunmore, Pa. is a three-time first-team All-Conference performer in men’s cross country and has qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships each of the past two seasons. He’s earned All-Region honors each of the past two seasons and has earned eight invitational individual titles. He earns All-Academic team honors for the second time and is mathematics major with a chemistry minor.

Julia Amendola of Mountain Top, Pa., has been a standout for the Susquehanna field hockey team. A team captain, she has twice been selected as an All-Conference performer and helped the Crusaders to a runner-up finish in the Landmark this season. She has twice led the team in defensive saves. She is majoring in human resource management and marketing and has twice earned Landmark Academic Honor Roll status.

Jess Cicioni from Frackville, Pa. earns All-Academic honors for the second time after another strong season with the Susquehanna volleyball team. She earned All-Conference honors as a senior and holds the school record for career block assists. A biology student she is the president of the Susquehanna Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and earned Dean’s List honors each semester she has been at Susquehanna.

Brandon Eisenhart of Mechanicsburg, Pa. was a top midfielder for the Susquehanna men’s soccer team in his junior year. He earned All-Conference honors for the first time as a junior, and helped the Crusaders to the program’s first conference championship and first NCAA Tournament berth as a sophomore. A psychology major, he has twice been named to the Landmark Academic Honor Roll.

Dan Niesen, a native of Mechanicsburg, Pa., joined the Susquehanna soccer team in his junior season and made an immediate impact. He scored three goals for the Crusaders from his midfield position and also contributed to a defense that produced three shutouts. He is working towards a degree in biology at Susquehanna and has a strong GPA that earned him Academic Honor Roll status this season.

Ana Fuschetto from Swink, Colo. is a two-sport athlete at USMMA and enjoyed another strong year for the Mariner volleyball team this fall. She ranked third in the Landmark in serving aces, and as the team’s starting libero she was averaged 2.7 digs per match. She is working towards a degree in logistics and intermodal transportation and has the highest GPA among upperclassmen on the USMMA volleyball team.

Lane Gould of Greenville, Texas had a strong season for the Landmark men’s soccer team that earned an NCAA Tournament berth. He was a selected as a second-team All-Conference performer after finishing second on the team with 12 points, scoring four goals and adding four assists. In the classroom he is a ships officer major and has earned four gold stars for a semester GPA of 3.50 or better.

Erin Holihan of Bristol, Conn. joined the USMMA volleyball team for the first time as a junior and made an immediate impact, helping the team earn its first Landmark victory and postseason berth this season. She stepped in as an outside hitter producing 46 kills, 97 digs, and 16 service aces. A marine transportation major she is an officer in the USMMA regiment and also participates in the Regimental Band.

Gary Kuehn, a native of Lochbuie, Colo., was the team captain and a consistent performer for the USMMA men’s cross country team. The senior was one of the top finishers for the Mariners throughout the season, and helped the team place fifth at the Landmark Championships with a top-20 finish. He is working towards a degree in marine engineering and is ranked in the top-5 of the USMMA senior class.
