MADISON, N.J. – The Landmark Conference has chosen
fourteen student-athletes as Landmark Senior Scholar Athletes for
their respective winter and spring sports. A committee of Landmark
Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information
directors selected the recipients, choosing one senior from each of
the sports sponsored by the conference. The honorees must have a
cumulative GPA of 3.2 and are selected based on their
accomplishments in all areas of college life including athletics,
academics and other extracurricular activities. It is the most
exclusive award given out by the conference with just 20 honorees
for each academic year.
The 2009 Landmark winter and spring sport Senior Scholar Athletes
are: Baseball: Chris Psihoules (Washington Township,
N.J./Westwood), The University of Scranton; Men’s Basketball:
Joel Patch (Conklin, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley), Susquehanna
University; Women’s Basketball: Kristen Hetsko (Killingworth,
Conn./Haddam-Killingworth), United States Merchant Marine Academy;
Men’s Indoor Track & Field: Ray Snarski (Elysburg,
Pa./Southern Columbia Area), Susquehanna University; Women’s
Indoor Track & Field: Kelsey Buffenmyer (Mount Joy,
Pa./Donegal), Juniata College; Men’s Lacrosse: Alex Boucher
(North Wales, Pa./Germantown Academy), Goucher College;
Women’s Lacrosse: Marlo Tersigni (Boston, Mass./Lawrence
Academy), Goucher College; Men’s Outdoor Track & Field:
Jalon Orzolek (Bloomsburg, Pa./Homeschooled), Susquehanna
University; Women’s Outdoor Track & Field: Kristen
Kennedy (Great Falls, Va./Kolbe Academy), The Catholic University

David Hume (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac), United States Merchant
Marine Academy; Women’s Tennis: Dyana Swan (Somerville,
N.J./Somerville), Moravian College.
Psihoules capped his stellar career for the Scranton baseball team
by earning first-team All-Conference honors in his senior season.
It marked the third All-Conference recognition of his career. He
posted a .417 batting average in his final year, and closed his
career with a .372 career batting average, 175 hits and 18 home
runs. Off the field Psihoules earned the Scranton Fitzpatrick Award
given to a senior who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and
given extraordinary service to the community. He earned his degree
in political science and also represented Scranton at the 2008 NCAA
Leadership Conference.
Patch capped a stellar four-year career with his best all-around
season as he was named the Landmark Player of the Year and was a
finalist for the Jostens Trophy given to the top player in Division
III. He led the Landmark in rebounding and averaged a double-double
on the season scoring 17.5 points and grabbing 11.2 rebounds per
game. He earned All-Cconference honors in his senior and sophomore
seasons. Patch was named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Men’s
Basketball Academic All-District team and majored in earth and
environmental sciences and earned Academic Honor Roll status three
times.
Hetsko was capped her career as one of the most accomplished
performers in USMMA women’s basketball history. She was the
Conference Rookie of the Year as a freshman and this season passed
the 1,000-point plateau and finished her career as the
second-leading scorer in USMMA history. She is also first in school
history in three-point field goals made and three-point field-goal
percentage. Hetsko was a two-time Landmark All-Academic pick and
studied logistics and intermodal transportation. She earned four
Gold Academic Stars (GPA of 3.50-4.00) in a semester was
co-President of the USMMA SAAC.
Snarski played a significant part in helping the Crusaders claim
the 2008-09 Landmark Indoor Track & Field Championship, the
first indoor team title in track & field in program history. He
earned 10 points at the Landmark Indoor Championships as he earned
second-team All-Conference honors by placing second in the shot
put. He boasts a stellar GPA with a double major in finance and
economics at Susquehanna and has had a consistent spot on the
Landmark Academic Honor Rolls. Snarski is also a member of the
International Economics Honor Society, the International Social
Science Honor Society and the National Society of Leadership and
Success.
Buffenmyer has enjoyed a standout career for Juniata in a variety
of events in track & field. She won the high jump at both the
2008 and 2009 Landmark Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field
Championships, and was named the Field Athlete of the Year at the
2008 Indoor Championships when she also placed second in the long
jump. She also qualified for the NCAA Championships in the high
jump at the conclusion of the 2009 outdoor season. Buffenmyer
majored in human resource management at Juniata with a secondary
emphasis in Spanish & Hispanic cultures. She is a member of the
National Business Honor Society and earned Dean’s List
recognition each of her semesters at Juniata. She also serves as a
peer tutor.
Boucher enjoyed a standout career on and off the field as part of
the Goucher men’s lacrosse program. He was an All-Conference
selection in his junior season as a specialist and helped the
Gophers rank third in Division III in scoring defense. In his
senior season he contributed 13 goals and three assists as the team
finished atop the Landmark regular-season standings. Boucher was
chosen to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team for his
athletic and academic exploits. He graduated with a degree in
economics and had a perfect 4.0 GPA in six of his eight semesters
at Goucher. He also received the Max Hoschild Prize for Excellence
in Economics which is awarded to Goucher’s top economics
student.
Tersigni was a top performer for the Goucher women’s
lacrosse team over her four seasons. She capped her career by
claiming All-Region accolades after she led the Gophers in points
(57), assists (21), draw controls (66) and caused turnovers (41) in
her senior year. She was also a first-team All-Landmark choice,
marking the second time she earned All-Landmark honors for her
career. Tersigni, who earned her degree in psychology, was twice
picked for the Landmark Academic Honor Roll. She was also a member
of the Goucher Leadership Council and the Student Athlete Advisory
Committee. She also founded a program that benefits art programs at
inner city schools in Baltimore.
Orzolek was a mainstay for the Susquehanna track and field
programs as the team earned its first team title at the Landmark
Indoor Championships in 2009 and finished as the runners-up at the
Outdoor Championships. He earned second-team All-Conference status
outdoors as a member of both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays after also
earning All-Conference recognition during the indoor season. For
his career he earned All-Conference honors six times. Off the track
claimed Academic Honor Roll distinction on six occasions while
earning a degree in marketing. He captured four different
scholarships during his collegiate career including the Susquehanna
Presidential Scholarship.
Kennedy capped an outstanding collegiate career with strong
performances at the Landmark Outdoor Track & Field
Championships this past spring. She earned first-team
All-Conference honors by winning the heptathlon and added a
third-place finish in the high jump and was a member of the third
place 4x400 relay team. She also was an All-Conference honoree in
her freshman season. Kennedy also boasts an impressive academic
resume as she earned a spot on the Landmark Spring All-Academic
Team and was a four-time Academic Honor Roll choice. She earned a
degree in biomedical engineering and earned both an undergraduate
and graduate degree in four years.
Klocke was a major contributor as USMMA won the Landmark
Men’s Swimming & Diving Championship in his junior and
senior year. He earned second-team All-Conference honors as a
senior with his second-place finish in the 1,650-meter freestyle
and added two other top-8 finishes at the meet. He also posted a
pair of top-15 finishes at the 2009 Metropolitan Championships. An
logistics and intermodal transportation major, Klocke earned eight
Gold Academic Stars for posting a GPA of 3.5 or better for a
semester and was also a member of the USMMA Academic Honor
Society.
Natoli had a stellar career as a member of the Goucher swimming
and diving program. She won the 100 and 200 backstroke events at
the Landmark Championships her junior year to earn first-team
All-Conference honors and she captured second-team All-Conference
honors in her senior season. She was also a two-year team captain.
Natoli earned a degree in international relations major and was
twice named to the Landmark Winter All-Academic Team. She was the
president of the Goucher Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as a
senior, and was a member of the Landmark SAAC Executive Board.
Klepeisz was a four-year standout for the Moravian softball team
and closed her career with a host of academic and athletic honors.
She was a three-time All-Region selection and four-team
All-Conference choice, including capturing first-team honors three
times. She closed her career tied for second in Moravian history
with 191 hits and is in the top-5 in a host of other career
categories. She earned a joint degree in elementary education and
history, and was twice chosen to the ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-District Team. Klepeisz earned Landmark All-Academic
distinction this season, was a four time Dean’s List honoree
and was a member of both the history and education honor
societies.
Hume was a standout athletically and academically for the USMMA
men’s tennis program during his career. He put together a
solid senior campaign on the courts, earning three singles
victories at the number two spot in the lineup. He also collected a
pair of wins in doubles action playing at the top of the lineup,
and he helped the Mariners go 3-1 in non-conference play. Off the
court he earned a degree in marine engineering systems and his GPA
ranked third in the senior class. Hume earned Academic Honor Roll
distinction this spring and was honor with the Kings Point Writing
and Speaking Award and also served as the 2nd Company Academic
Officer during his senior year.
Swan capped a strong four-year career for the Moravian
women’s tennis program by helping the team claim its second
Landmark Championship. She was a first-team All-Conference
selection in her senior year for both singles and doubles play, and
it marked the fourth All-Conference honor of her career. She closed
her career with 40 doubles wins, which ranked fourth in school
history. Swan twice earned Landmark Academic Honor Roll status and
was a two-time ITA Scholar Athlete. She earned a degree in
elementary education and mathematics at Moravian and was a member
of the Kappa Delta Pi education honor society.
