Announces Winter All-Academic Team

MADISON, N.J. - The Landmark Conference has announced that 32 student-athletes have been honored with selection to the 2007-08 Winter Landmark All-Academic Team. Two male and two female athletes from each of the eight Landmark institutions were selected for the team which honors athletes who have excelled athletically and academically. Nominees could compete in any of the Landmark winter sports and must be a sophomore or older with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. The Landmark Conference sponsors men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming & diving, and men's and women's indoor track and field during the winter season.

The Winter All-Academic Team features 16 seniors, 13 juniors and a trio of sophomores. In addition all six winter sports sponsored by the Landmark Conference are represented with at least one student-athlete. The Landmark Conference will select an All-Academic Team for each of the three athletics seasons during the year.

Krystal Dole from Corbin, Ky. was a captain and key contributor for the Cardinal women's swimming team that placed second at the Landmark Swimming Championships. She was a first-team All-Conference choice with her performance at the meet. Doyle is a biochemistry major and her GPA ranks among the best on her team.

Andrew Kalna of Stafford, Va. is the one of the captains for the Cardinals men's swim team and helped Catholic place third at the Landmark Championships. A butterfly and individual medley specialist he was part of a third-place relay and two top-10 individual finishes at the Landmark meet. Out of the pool he earned Landmark Academic Honor Roll recognition and is an engineering major

Nick Olivero, a native Fairfax, Va., was a veteran leader for the Catholic men's basketball team, and also competes for the Cardinals in football. A team captain on the hardwood he averaged nearly eight points and two rebounds per game this season. Olivero is majoring in sociology and boasts one of the top GPAs on the team.

Jessica Schiavoni from Winchester Va. enjoyed a breakout season for the Catholic women's basketball team. She was a team captain and averaged 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game which both ranked third on the team. She was one of only two players to play in all 25 games during the year. Schiavoni is a management major and earned Landmark Academic Honor Roll recognition during the winter.

David Cramer, from Columbiana Ohio, improved both on the basketball court and in the classroom each year at Drew.  The senior forward had his best season on the hardwood averaging over 10 points and five rebounds as a senior.  He has improved his academic standing every year as well and will graduate in May with honors in political science.

Andrew Cronholm, a native of North Attleboro, Mass., ranks as one of the best male swimmers in Drew's history. He has posted one of the top-five times in program history in five different events. An active member of the Drew community Cronholm is member of Drew's SAAC and was named one of the Most Influential Students on campus by the Drew Acorn. He is pursuing a degree in political science.

Allison Hartnett of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., was a standout on the basketball court Drew as she established herself as one of the top players in the conference, earning second team All-Landmark honors.  In the classroom, the economics major excelled as well, posting a high GPA and earning Dean's List honors each semester.

Ann Mularz of Linden, N.J. earns All-Academic honors for the second time after earning recognition on the soccer field in the fall. On the basketball court she appeared in all 25 of Drew's games while starting eight and averaged more than five points per game. A chemistry major, she was an ESPN The Magazine Women's Soccer Academic All-District and has been Dean's List every semester at Drew.

Ian Brown, a native of Durban, South Africa, was a significant contributor for the Goucher men's basketball program. He had two double-doubles on the season, including one in his final game, and averaged five points and 4.5 rebounds in his senior year. Brown is an international relations major and was a Landmark Academic Honor Roll selection.

Amir Hakim of Baltimore, Md. joined Goucher as a transfer this season and immediately made his presence known on the basketball court as he ranked in the top-10 in the conference in blocked shots and field-goal percentage. He also averaged 7.5 points and nearly four rebounds per game. Hakim earned Academic Honor Roll honors in his first season and is pursuing a degree in management.

Bethany Natoli from Alexandria, Va. was a stellar performer at the inaugural Landmark Swimming & Diving Championships. She was the top finisher in a pair of individual events at the meet as she touched the wall first in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke events. Out of the pool Natoli is working towards a degree in international relations.

Shadae Swan of Baltimore, Md. earned All-Region and All-Conference laurels on the hardwood for the Goucher women's basketball team. She led the conference in scoring with an average of 22.4 points per game and scored in double figures in every game during the season. Swan was picked for the Landmark Academic Honor Roll and is a communications major.

Kelly Ashcraft, a native of Bellefonte, Pa., was a standout on the basketball court for the Eagles. She was a first-team All-Landmark selection and led the team in both scoring and field goal percentage. Her field-goal percentage led the conference and ranked 13th in Division. She is an environmental science major with a secondary emphasis in secondary education and is a two-time Academic Honor Roll selection.

Matt Booth of Allentown, Pa. helped Juniata place third at the Landmark Indoor Track & Field Championships. He earned second-team All-Conference honors by placing second in the long and triple jumps at the meet. He is studying chemistry at Juniata with a secondary emphasis in physics.

Kelsey Buffenmyer of Mount Joy, Pa. was a first-team All-Conference performer in indoor track and was selected as the Landmark Field Indoor Field Athlete of the Year after winning the high jump and placing second in the long jump at the conference meet. Buffenmyer is pursuing a degree in human resource management at Juniata.

Kyle Opitz of Gibsonia, Pa. was a significant contributor for the Juniata men's basketball team. A first-team All-Conference selection at guard, he averaged 14.3 points per game and ranked second in the conference in both three-point percentage and free throw percentage. He was a three-time Academic Honor Roll pick and is majoring in management.

Michael Blenk, a native of Inwood, N.Y., helped Moravian win the Landmark Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship with several top-four finishes. He won the triple jump, was third in the long jump and fourth in the 55-meter hurdles. That performance earned him first-team All-Conference honors. Off the track Blenk is a sociology major.

Jessica Foran of Annandale N.J. was the leading scorer for the Moravian women's basketball team which earned spots in the Landmark and ECAC postseason. She scored 12.9points per game and also ranked among the Division III leaders in free throw percentage. Foran is studying business at Moravian.

Mark Franzyshen, from Somerset N.J., was a pivotal piece in a Moravian men's basketball team that earned its first NCAA Tournament berth in 25 seasons. He was a second-team All-Conference selection while averaging 13.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. He will graduate with a degree in social studies and secondary education and was a Landmark Academic Honor Roll pick this winter.

Jessica Posimo of Philadelphia, Pa. helped the Moravian women's track and field team win the first Landmark Indoor Track & Field Championship. She captured three first-place finishes at the championship meet, winning the 55-meter hurdles, the long jump and the triple jump while adding three more top-four finishes. She was a member of the Landmark Winter Academic Honor Roll and is a biochemistry major.

Julie Brophy of Exton, Pa., was a captain for the Scranton women's basketball team which claimed the first Landmark Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. She played in 23 games and averaged 6.6 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Brophy will graduate with a degree in exercise science.

Jack Cook, a native of Springfield, Pa., was a second-team All-Conference performer for the Scranton men's swimming & diving team. He placed second in the 200 backstroke at the conference championships and added several other top-four individual and relay finishes. Cook has earned Landmark Academic Honor roll distinction and is studying accounting.

Ryan Kirk of Lansdale, Pa. was a vital contributor for the Scranton men's basketball team that earned the Landmark Championship and reached the NCAA Tournament. A captain for the Royals, he scored more than nine points and grabbed 3.6 rebounds per game. Off the court he was an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District choice and is studying management.

Gina Miller from Secane, Pa. earned several high finishes for Scranton at the Landmark Swimming & Diving Championships to help her team claim the championship. One of the team captains, she placed in the top-six in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events at the championship meet. A Landmark Academic Honor Roll honoree the senior will graduate with a degree in accounting.

Jeffrey Brooks of Cogan Station, Pa., helped Susquehanna to a runner-up finish at the Landmark Indoor Track & Field Championships. He was fourth in the mile at the meet and claimed second-team All-Conference honors as part of the 4x800 relay. Academically he's working towards a degree in accounting and earned Landmark Academic Honor Roll status for the fall and winter seasons.

Jeffrey Fornadley from Hummelstown, Pa. was a captain for the Susquehanna men's swimming & diving team and was the Landmark Male Co-Swimmer of the Year for his efforts at the Landmark Championships. He won three individual events and was a part of four winning relays, and also helped the team to an undefeated dual meet season. Fornadley is pursuing a degree in biology.

Amanda Kane of Tamaqua, Pa. was a key performer for the Susquehanna women's swimming & diving team that enjoyed one of the best regular seasons in program history. She was one of the top freestyle swimmers on the team and was a part of two top-four relays at the Landmark Championships. A Landmark Academic Honor Roll pick, she is an accounting major at Susquehanna.

Ruth Williamson, a native of State College, Pa, was a co-captain and three-year letterwinner for the Susquehanna women's basketball team. She finished her career with 737 points and helped the Crusaders earn a pair of conference postseason appearances. A three-time Academic Honor Roll recipient she is majoring in religion and women's studies and has one of the highest GPAs among Crusader athletes.

Jay Carpenter, a native of Clearwater, Fla., was a standout swimmer for USMMA and capped his memorable career by earning All-America honors at the NCAA Division III Championship. He placed third in the 100 breaststroke to earn that honor, the seventh All-America recognition of his career, and helped USMMA place 25th in Division III. He is majoring in marine engineering systems

Rita Dernar from Cleveland, Ohio was a significant contributor for the USMMA swimming and diving team. She earned second-team All-Landmark honors by placing second in both diving events at the Landmark Championship. A marine transportation major, she was also a member of the Landmark Academic Honor Roll.

Kristen Hetsko of Killingsworth, Conn. helped USMMA reach the Landmark women's basketball postseason and match the program record for wins in a season. She was second on the team, and sixth in the conference, in scoring and also topped the team in three-point and free throw percentage. She is a logistics and intermodal transportation major. Stuart Whitaker

of Raleigh, N.C. helped USMMA claim the inaugural Landmark Men's Swimming and Diving Championship. The senior was a first-team All-Conference performer as he was a part of a first-place and runner-up relay, and was named first-team All-Metropolitan. Whitaker is pursuing a degree in maritime operations and technology.
