MADISON, N.J. – The Landmark Conference has announced the
selection of 32 student-athletes to the 2011 Winter Landmark
All-Academic Team. Two male and two female athletes from each of
the eight Landmark institutions were selected for the team which
honors athletes who have excelled athletically and academically.
Nominees could compete in any of the Landmark winter sports and
must be a sophomore or older with a strong cumulative GPA.
The junior class was the most represented on the All-Academic
Team with 14 selections. The remaining positions were taken
by11seniors and seven sophomores. In addition all six winter sports
sponsored by the Landmark Conference are represented with at least
one selection. The Landmark Conference will select an All-Academic
Team for each of the three athletics seasons during the year.

Kelly Carioto from Pittsburgh, Pa. had another strong season for
the Catholic track team, winning events at the Landmark
Championship and ECAC Division III Championships during the indoor
season. She holds the Landmark record in the shot put in both
indoor and outdoor competition. This marks the second All-Academic
selection for the history major and she is also a three-time
Academic Honor Roll honoree.
Ryan Horka of Bel Air, Md. has been a steady contributor for the
men's basketball program that earned three-straight Landmark
postseason berths and reached the championship in his senior year.
He played in 16 games as a senior, shooting 67-percent from the
field and was perfect from the field in three games. He's a
three-time Academic Honor Roll selection and is earning a degree in
business management.
Brendan Place, a native of Wayland, Mass., helped the Catholic
swimming & diving team to a third-place finish at the Landmark
meet after a 6-5 regular season. He was part of a winning relay
team against St. Mary's and had a runner-up finish against USMMA
during the regular season. He's excelled out of the pool while
studying engineering with a strong GPA and is a two-time Academic
Honor Roll choice.
Katarina Owunna, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., averaged nearly 10
points and 6.5 rebounds for Catholic's women's basketball team that
earned its first Landmark postseason berth. She had nine
double-figure scoring games,, with a high of 23 points, while
shooting 45-percent from the field. She is off to a good start
academically with a strong GPA while studying accounting and earned
Academic Honor Roll status.
Damien Berube of Beach Haven, N.J. has enjoyed a strong start to
his career as a member of the Drew swimming team. He turned in
several top times for the Rangers throughout his first two years,
producing the second-fastest times in the 100 and 200 butterfly. In
the classroom he is off to a strong start with stellar cumulative
GPA while studying political science and is a Landmark Academic
Honor Roll selection.
Terrell Brown of Camden, N.J. claims All-Academic honors for the
second time in his career after another strong year on the
basketball court. He led the team in rebounds, assists, and steals
and was second in scoring and was among the Landmark leaders in
rebounding, assists, and steals. Brown participated in Drew's Wall
Street Semester, serves as a mentor to underclassmen and is earning
a degree in economics.
Kati Eggert of Denville, N.J. is a three-sport athlete and
starred for the women's swimming team when she earned
All-Conference honors and was a part of a pair of relays that set
school records. She finished second in the 50-freestyle at the
Landmark Championships. She has earned All-Academic honors in each
of her three sports, is the SAAC secretary, a member of the Drew
Student Kiwanis Club and is majoring in art.
Jessica Reid from Nazareth, Pa. is a three-time All-Academic
honoree as she closed her standout career for the women's
basketball program. She led the team in rebounding for the
third-straight season and led the conference in defensive rebounds
and was among the top-10 in several categories. She has a near
perfect GPA while studying biology, and is a member of the Drew
Tri-Beta Club and the biological honor society.
Caitlin Biggers from Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. had another strong
season for Goucher's indoor track and field program. She helped the
Gophers set an indoor school record in the distance medley relay at
the Landmark Championships, and helped the 4x400-relay team place
third at the meet. She is a two-time All-Academic Team selection
and a three-time Academic Honor Roll pick while studying
history.
Hadley Couraud, a native of East Lansing, Mich., put together
several quality performances on the track this season. She holds
the Goucher indoor school record in the mile, and was a part of
three point-scoring relays for the Gophers at the Landmark Indoor
Championships. Off the track Couraud is majoring in biology with a
strong GPA and she is a two-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll
pick.
Adam Scipione of Walpole, Mass., has enjoyed a strong senior
season in indoor track. He earned first-team All-Conference honors
in indoor track as a member of Goucher's school-record setting
distance medley relay that won the event at the Landmark
Championships. He was named the Men's Cross Country Senior Scholar
Athlete in the fall and is pursuing a degree in philosophy and
business management.
Kyle Williams of Andover, N.J. earns his second All-Academic
selection after a strong season for the Goucher swim team. He
earned second-team All-Conference honors by placing second in the
500 freestyle and setting a new school record at the Landmark
Championships, and was also third in the 200 backstroke. Out of the
pool he is studying chemistry and is a two-time Academic Honor Roll
selection.
Nicholas Bauer, a native of Glen Ridge, N.J., has excelled for
the Juniata track & field team. He earned first-team
All-Conference when he won the long jump at the Landmark Indoor
Championships and also added runner-up finish in the triple jump.
The physics major volunteers as an EMT, sings in the community
choir and created an organized an event that raised $1,000 for the
Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Natalie Glinsky of Indian, Pa. helped Juniata claim its first
Landmark women's basketball championship. She was second on the
team in scoring and averaged 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists while
leading the team with 39 made threes. She is 10th in school history
in threes. She volunteers with numerous organizations including
Habitat for Humanity, made the Dean's List in the fall of 2010 as a
management major.
Dan Sekulski of Douglassville, Pa. was a standout for the men's
basketball program in his junior season as he led the team in
scoring at 13.8 points per game and in assists. He was in the
top-10 in the conference in points and assists and his 58 steals
this year rank second in school history. He earned Dean's List in
the fall of 2010, is studying elementary education, and volunteers
at a local retirement center.
Angela Shaffer, from Prospect, Pa., produced another solid
indoor track season for Juniata. She earned first-team
All-Conference honors by winning the high jump at the Landmark
Indoor Championships for the second-straight year, and has multiple
other top-five finishes at Landmark Championships. She is studying
biology at Juniata and is a member of the ceramics club and
volunteers with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.
Chris Cullen, a native of East Islip, N.Y., capped a stellar
career for Moravian on the basketball court. He earned
All-Conference honors for the second-straight year after leading
the team in scoring in rebounding. He finished his career seventh
in school history with 123 three-pointers. He made Dean's List
three times and this is his second All-Academic selection as he
pursues a degree in biology.
Timothy Layng of Canton, Pa. has been one of the top track and
field performers in the conference in three seasons. He qualified
for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships after winning the
Landmark indoor pole vault title, his fourth conference title. He
holds the school record in the indoor and outdoor pole vault. He's
studying psychology and elementary education and is a five-time
Dean's List choice.
Cadee Rockwell from Sinking Spring, Pa. was the 2011 Women's
Indoor Track Athlete of the Year after winning the mile and 5,000
at the Landmark Championships. She also ran an NCAA provisional
qualifying time in the mile and set a new Landmark indoor record in
the event during the season. She is four-time member of the
Moravian Dean's List and is pursuing a degree in psychology and
studio art.
Lisa Williamson of Sinking Spring, Pa. was a first-team
All-Conference performer for the Moravian track and field team. She
won the 55-meter dash at the Landmark meet and was a part of the
winning 4x200 relay at the meet, and had the second fastest time in
the 55-meter dash in the conference. This is her second
All-Academic selection and she is a two time Academic Honor Roll
choice and was named to the Dean's List.
Zach Ashworth of Doylestown, Pa., produced a remarkable
four-year career for Scranton men's basketball team. He was a
two-time Landmark Player of the Year and a four-time All-Conference
choice, and helped the team win three Landmark titles and finished
fourth in school history in points. Off the field the finance major
is a two-time Academic All-American and this marks his second
selection to the All-Academic Team.
Carolyn Gillespie, a native of New Market, Md., has been a key
contributor for two Landmark Championship teams and won numerous
individual Landmark titles including the 50 freestyle, 100
freestyle and 100 butterfly at the 2011 Championships, and she
holds two Scranton individual records. Out of the pool she is
earning a degree in exercise science and has twice been an Academic
Honor Roll choice.
David Hovey of Forty Fort, Pa. is a three-time All-Conference
performer for the Scranton swimming team and is the school record
holder in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. He was the 2009 Landmark
Rookie of the Year and has one Championship win and three runner-up
results to his credit. He's a two-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll
selection with a stellar GPA as he pursues a degree in
chemistry.
Colleen McLane from Scranton, Pa. was a valuable four-year
competitor for the Scranton women's basketball team and helped the
team claim a pair of Landmark titles and reach the NCAA Tournament
three times. She finished her career with 354 points, 183 assists,
166 rebounds and 123 steals. She will earn a degree in nursing and
has been selected for the Landmark Academic Honor Roll three
times.
Chadd Lee of Bloomsburg, Pa., has been a first-team
All-Conference performer for Susquehanna swimming and diving in
each of his two collegiate seasons. He won the 200 IM as a freshman
and then the 200 butterfly at the Landmark Championships as a
sophomore, helping the Crusaders to a pair of second-place
finishes. He is studying biology and earned Academic Honor Roll
status this winter.
Christie Savard from Berwyn, Pa. is a team captain for the
women's swimming and diving team that claimed its first Landmark
title in her senior year. She won five individual titles at the
Landmark Championships, and was named the 2010 Landmark Female
Swimmer of the Year. She is completing her teaching degree in the
spring, is a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and is majoring
in liberal studies.
Nikki Schneck, of Cresco, Pa., was a four-year letterwinner for
the Susquehanna women's basketball team, helping the team to a pair
of postseason berths. She played in 100 games in four seasons, and
finished with 233 points. A chemistry major, she has been a fixture
on the Dean's List, has twice presented research at the Landmark
Research Conference and is a member of multiple volunteer
organizations and charities.
Joe Zamadics, of West Chester, Pa., enjoyed a strong indoor
track and field season for Susquehanna, helping the team to a
second-place finish at the Landmark Championships. He ran a
personal best time to place third in the mile and was a second-team
All-Conference performer in the 4x800 relay. An economics major,
this is his second All-Academic team selection after earning the
honor in the fall.
Cristina Fernandez-O'Toole from Washington Depot, Conn. has been
a solid part of the USMMA track and field indoor and outdoor
programs. She has been a part of several school record relay teams,
and has solid times in several long sprints and short distance
events. The senior has been a four-year part of the team and has
several Landmark Academic Honor Roll selections while studying
marine transportation.
Tom Izzo of Bridgeport, W.Va. produced a stellar career on the
basketball court, earning All-Conference honors for the third time
in his career as a senior. He also scored his 1,000th-point in his
senior year, and was a key component to USMMA winning a conference
title in his junior year. This is his third selection to the
All-Academic team and will graduate with a stellar GPA in the tough
marine engineering program.
Chris Scott of Andover, Kan. was a part of his
second-consecutive Landmark Men's Swimming & Diving
Championship as a sophomore after being named Landmark Rookie of
the Year as a freshman. He is a two-time first-team All-Conference
performer for the Mariners with multiple event wins at the
Championship. He has accumulated a perfect GPA in his first year
and a half as a marine transportation major.
Lauren Seebode, a native of Trappe Md., helped USMMA to a
best-ever fourth-place finish at the Landmark Swimming & Diving
Championships in her junior season. She was a part of three relays
that set new school records for the Mariners and ranked as one of
the top freestyle swimmers on the team. She is in the challenging
marine engineering program and has twice earned Academic Honor Roll
status.
