Announces Winter All-Academic Team

MADISON, N.J. – The Landmark Conference has announced the selection of 32 student-athletes to the 2010 Winter Landmark All-Academic Team. Two male and two female athletes from each of the eight Landmark institutions were selected for the team which honors athletes who have excelled athletically and academically. Nominees could compete in any of the Landmark winter sports and must be a sophomore or older with a strong cumulative GPA.

The winter All-Academic Team is heavily populated with seniors as 18 student-athletes earn the distinction in their final season. The additional honorees are nine juniors and five sophomores. Nine of the All-Academic honorees are earning the honor for the second time in their careers. In addition all six winter sports sponsored by the Landmark Conference are represented with at least one selection. The Landmark Conference will select an All-Academic Team for each of the three athletics seasons during the year.

Lisa Brooks from Fairfax, Va. is a three-time first-team swimming All-Conference performer for Catholic. She has won the 100 and 200 breaststroke at all three Landmark Swimming & Diving Championships and qualified for the NCAA Championships in her junior season. A biology major, this is her second All-Academic selection and she has been named to the Catholic Dean’s List with honors during her career.

Darrell Carroll of Perth Amboy, N.J. played in all 27 games for the Catholic men’s basketball team which went 18-9 and earned Landmark and ECAC postseason berths. He averaged 3.7 points and 2.7 rebounds as a key performer off the bench. He is majoring in international economics and finance with minors in Spanish and philosophy, is a two-time Academic Honor Roll honoree and had a perfect 4.0 GPA this fall.

Brielle Crites, a native of Collingswood, N.J., returned from injury to be an important performer for the Catholic women’s basketball team. In 10 games she grabbed 23 rebounds, scored 13 points and dished out 11 assists, making five starts. In the classroom she has earned Dean’s List selection each semester of her college career, is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honors Society and is studying psychology.

Kristopher Reynolds, a native of Cooperstown, N.Y.., has battled injury this winter but has been a consistent part of the Catholic cross country and track teams. He was the team’s number-two runner in the fall, and is one of Catholic’s top mid-distance runners. He is a member of the National Engineering Honor Society and boasts one of the best GPAs among Cardinal athletes as a mechanical engineering major

Terrell Brown of Camden, N.J. had a strong first season for Drew men’s basketball as he earned Landmark co-Rookie of the Year honors. He ranked in the top-10 in the Landmark in scoring, rebounding and field-goal percentage in his rookie season. He is studying business at Drew, was an Academic Honor Roll choice and is a Wall Street Journal Scholar.

Travis DeNapoli of Dunellen, N.J. was the captain for the Drew men’s basketball team in his senior season, when he played 23 games and produced 66 points, 57 rebounds, 21 assists and 10 steals. He has also performed well off the court as he will graduate with a degree in economics. He has earned Dean’s List recognition in each of his four years, and earns All-Academic honors for the second time in his career.

Katherine Eggert of Denville, N.J. is a three-sport athlete for Drew and starred for the women’s swimming team this winter when she swam the third-fastest time in Drew history in three separate events. She had fourth-place finishes in two events at the 2010 Landmark Championships. She was awarded the Irene Weyer Memorial Prize for Academics, and has been on the Dean’s List multiple times as an art major.

Jessica Reid from Nazareth, Pa. earns All-Academic honors for the second time after another strong season for the Drew women’s basketball team. She played in all 27 games for the Rangers and led the team and ranked fourth in the Landmark in rebounding. She earned has Dean’s List honors at Drew while studying biology and environmental studies, and she serves as a teaching assistant for the biology department.

Caitlin Biggers from Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. was a factor for the Goucher indoor track & field team in just her second season as she turned in the fastest time on the team in the 500-meter dash and was a part of a third-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay at the Landmark Indoor Championships. She is majoring in history at Goucher with a minor in art and also was named an Academic Honor Roll recipient.

Kelsey Myette, a native of Binghamton, N.Y., is off to a strong start with the Goucher women’s basketball team after two seasons. She set a single-game Goucher record for three-point percentage in her sophomore season, going 5-of-6 from behind the line in one game, and averaged 6.5 points and 3.7 rebounds in her sophomore season. She has a stellar cumulative GPA as a second-year student and is majoring in biology.

Adam Scipione of Walpole, Mass., produced several noteworthy performance for Goucher during the indoor track & field season, including setting a new school record in the mile at the Landmark Championships, helping the Gophers to a best-ever fourth-place finish at the meet. He is a three-time Academic Honor Roll choice for the Gophers and is studying management and philosophy.

Kyle Williams of Andover, N.J. enjoyed several strong performances for Goucher men’s swimming this season, highlighted by a second-place performance in the 100 backstroke that earned him All-Conference honors at the Landmark Championships. He also added a third and fifth-place finish at the meet and set a pair of school records. He is studying chemistry and earned his first Academic Honor Roll nod this winter.

Jeff Berkey, a native of Stoystown, Pa., earns All-Academic honors for the second time after a strong career for the Juniata’s men’s basketball team. He earned All-Conference honors for the second time this season, and led the team in scoring as a two-time captain. The business management major was an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District choice and is a member of the Juniata and Business Honor Societies.

TJ Breya of McClure, Pa. claimed All-Conference honors at the Landmark Indoor Track & Field Championships. The senior won both the 55-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles at the Landmark meet, setting a new Juniata record in the 400-hurdles win. He has earned Dean’s List honors each semester and the politics and French major studied abroad in France, and volunteers with Habitat for Humanity.

Kelly Rotan of Atco, N.J. averaged eight points and seven rebounds as a captain for the Juniata women’s basketball team. She scored 590 points and grabbed 465 rebounds during her career and helped Juniata earn Landmark postseason berths three times. She’s a three-time Academic Honor Roll choice as a sports management major, is a member of the Business Honor Society and is active as a youth basketball coach.

Laura Rupprecht, from Jefferson, Md., has excelled as a member of the Juniata track & field and cross country teams. She has been an All-Conference performer in cross country, indoor and outdoor track, most recently by finishing second in the mile at the Landmark Indoor Championships. A biology major, she is the President of the Landmark SAAC and earns All-Academic recognition for the second time.

Christopher Cullen, a native of East Islip, N.Y., was a standout for the Moravian men’s basketball team in his junior campaign. He earned second-team All-Conference status as he led the team in rebounding and was second in scoring while also ranking second in field-goal percentage. He has twice earned Academic Honor Roll recognition and is pursuing a degree in biology at Moravian.

Kate Harrison of Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y. capped a standout four year career by helping the Moravian women’s basketball team to the Landmark Championship, and a perfect 14-0 conference record. She was a three-time All-Landmark choice, including first-team honors as a senior when she also earned All-Region honors. A three-time Academic Honor Roll honoree she is studying elementary education and psychology.

Anna Heim from Moorestown, N.J. has enjoyed a remarkable track & field career at Moravian as she earned All-America honors by winning the pole vault at the 2010 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, setting a new NCAA Division III record. She has earned All-Conference honors at every Landmark Championship. An art education major she also earned Academic Honor Roll status this winter.

Christian Seebode of Stroudsburg, Pa. is producing a stellar senior year for the Moravian track & field teams. He helped Moravian win the 2010 Landmark Championships and earned first-team All-Conference honors by winning the shot put at the indoor meet, and added a second-place finish in the weight throw. He will graduate with a degree in business management and earned Academic Honor Roll honors this winter.

Zach Aswhroth of Doylestown, Pa., put together a remarkable season for the Scranton men’s basketball team. He was named the Landmark Player of the Year and earned All-Conference honors for the third time in three seasons, and was a finalist for the prestigious Josetens Trophy. A finance major, he also excelled in the classroom as he was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team.

Matthew Hosko, a native of Stroudsburg, Pa., enjoyed a strong career as part of the Scranton swimming program. He produced two top-5 finishes in individual events at the Landmark Championships during his career, highlighted by a third in the 100-fly in 2008, and has eight 1st-place finishes in dual meets over four years. He has been selected for the Academic Honor Roll three times and is pursuing a degree in history.

Ryan Mooney of Spring City, Pa. was a key part of two Landmark Championship and four NCAA Tournament teams for the Scranton women’s basketball program. A four-year starter for the Royals she was twice a second-team All-Conference selection. She earns All-Academic recognition for the second time, and is a three-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll choice as acounseling and human services major.

Lauren Wieland from Wissahickon, Pa. helped Scranton claim three straight Landmark Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships. She earned first-team All-Conference honors all three seasons, and was the co-Champion of the 1,650 freestyle at the 2010 Landmark meet. She is studying occupational therapy and this is her second All-Academic honor and she is a three-time Academic Honor Roll choice.

Steve Drosdick of Verona, N.J., has been a strong performer for the Susquehanna track teams, including producing 10 points at the 2010 Landmark Indoor Track & Field Championships. He posted third-place finishes in the 55-meter hurdles and high jump helping the team place second. He’s a five-time Academic Honor Roll choice as an economics major and also plays for the Crusader club men’s volleyball team.

Catherine Harris from Miller Place, N.Y. capped her career with Susquehanna swimming & diving by helping the team place second at the Landmark Championships where she earned 166 points. She had four relay wins and a third-place finish in the 100-freestyle, and holds two individual school records. A member of the Pi Sigma Alpha political science honor society she is a three-time Academic Honor Roll choice.

Cristina Los, of Succasunna, N.J., posted a pair of third-place finishes for Susquehanna to highlight her efforts at the Landmark Swimming & Diving championships. She helped Susquehanna place second at the meet by earning 124 points and being a part of two winning relays. She is earning a degree in psychology, is an officer for Habitat for Humanity, and also is a member of the Symphonic Band at Susquehanna.

Jim Robichaud a native of South Portland, Maine enjoyed a strong career for the Susquehanna swimming & diving program which included two consecutive team runner-up finishes at the Landmark Championships, and he closed his career with 48 points at the 2010 Championships. A global economics and financial markets major, he is a member of the Economics and Social Science Honor Societies.

Tom Izzo from Bridgeport, W. Va. earned All-Conference honors for the second time as USMMA won its first Landmark men’s basketball title. He led USMMA in steals, ranked second in assists and was also in the top-4 on the team in scoring and rebounding. This marks his second appearance on the winter All-Academic Team and he is also a two-time Academic Honor Roll choice while studying marine engineering.

Christine Jaszlics of Lakewood, Colo. has been a consistent performer for the USMMA track & field and cross country teams. She had the top 5,000-meter time in cross country this past season for the Mariners and has been a consistent performer in the distance events in both indoor and outdoor track. She is majoring in logistics and intermodal transportation and has one Academic Honor Roll selection to her credit.

Andrea Morrison of Riverside, Calif. has been a top performers for USMMA track & field throughout her career. She had the top finish for the Mariners at the Landmark Indoor Championships with a sixth-place finish in the weight throw, and she earned first-team All-Conference honors in 2008 when she won the discus at the Landmark meet. She earned Academic Honor Roll recognition for the first time this season.

John Murphy, a native of Fairfax, Va., earns All-Academic honors for the second time after helping USMMA win its third Landmark men’s swimming & diving championship. He was named the Landmark Swimmer of the Year as he won the 100 and 200 backstroke, setting Landmark records in each and was also second in the 200 IM. He will graduate with a degree in marine engineering and shipyard management.
