Announces Winter Senior Scholar Athletes

MADISON, N.J. - The Landmark Conference has chosen six student-athletes as Landmark Senior Scholar Athletes for their respective winter sports. A committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors selected the recipients, choosing one senior from each of the winter sports sponsored by the conference. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and are selected based on their accomplishments in all areas of college life including athletics, academics and other extracurricular activities.

The 2007-08 Landmark winter sport Senior Scholar Athletes are: Men's Basketball: Tom Bicknell (Melbourne, Australia/St. Bede's College) The University of Scranton; Women's Basketball: Kathleen Daly (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy), The University of Scranton; Men's Indoor Track & Field: Mike Marr (Muncy, Pa./Warrior Run), Susquehanna University; Women's Indoor Track & Field: Ashley Moormann (Stanhope, N.J./Pope John XIII), Susquehanna University; Men's Swimming & Diving: Jay Carpenter (Clearwater, Fla./Home Schooled)), United States Merchant Marine Academy; Women's Swimming & Diving: Sarah Keifer (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery), Goucher College.

Bicknell played a significant role for the Scranton men's basketball team that claimed the inaugural Landmark Men's Basketball Championship. He was a first-team All-Conference player as he led the conference in rebounding and field goal percentage and was seventh in scoring. He was the only Landmark player to average a double-double in points and rebounding and he also earned a spot on the D3hoops.com All-Region Team. Bicknell was a member of the ESPN The Magazine Men's Basketball Academic All-District Team on two occasions, including a first-team selection as a senior. He is majoring in biochemistry and earned Dean's List distinction four times during his time at Scranton.

Daly was a standout for the Scranton women's basketball team as she helped the Royals claim the regular season, and postseason Landmark Championship. She was selected as the Landmark Player of the Year, while also garnering first-team All-Conference honors. She also claimed D3hoops.com All-Region honors as she ranked among the Landmark leaders in points, rebounds and field goal percentage and helped the Royals reach the NCAA Tournament. Daly found a place on the ESPN The Magazine Women's Basketball All-District Team, and has been selected to conference academic honor rolls on three occasions. The marketing major also earned a spot on the Scranton Dean's List five times in her career.

Marr has enjoyed a stellar career for the Susquehanna track and field program that includes helping his team to a runner-up finish at the Landmark Championships. He earned All-America status as a junior when he placed 6th in the high jump at the NCAA Championships, and he has either automatically or provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships five times. Marr has won four conference championships in the high jump, and holds the Susquehanna indoor record in the event (6' 8 ¼"). He is majoring in biology with a minor in healthcare studies and is a member of both the Beta Beta Beta biology honor society and Alpha Lambda Delta national honor society.

Moormann has been a prolific competitor for the Susquehanna track & field team throughout her career while also excelling in the classroom. She made her mark for the Crusaders at the Landmark Indoor Championships by placing third in the shot put and fourth in the weight throw. She has nine top-8 individual finishes at conference championships, and she helped the Crusaders to a runner-up finish at the first Landmark Championship. In the classroom Moormann is studying early childhood & elementary education and was honored as a Division III Track & Field Academic All-American in 2005. She has been on the Dean's List every semester and is a member of Education and Mathematics Honor Societies.

USMMA's Carpenter enjoyed one of the finest careers in the history of the Mariner swimming and diving program. He placed 14th at the NCAA Championships in the 100-yard breaststroke to earn Honorable Mention All-America honors this season, the seventh time in his career that he captured All-America recognition. He was a 14-time NCAA qualifier and he posted several of the fastest times in the conference. Carpenter set eight USMMA records during his career. Out of the pool he earned Academic All-America status three times, and claimed a gold star for posting a GPA of 3.5 or better in five semesters during his career. He is a systems engineering major and helped the USMMA team earn Team Academic All-America recognition.

Keifer was a significant contributor to the Goucher swimming and diving program during her four-year career. She placed in the top-9 in three individual events at the first Landmark Swimming & Diving Championships, highlighted by a third-place finish in the 1,650 freestyle and a fifth-place performance in the 500 freestyle. She holds times in the Goucher top-10 in four events and helped the Gophers place third at the first Landmark Championships. Keifer is a studio art major and has been named to conference academic honor rolls seven times. She studied abroad in Italy for a semester and has been a part of the Goucher theater program throughout her college career.

The Landmark Conference will select a Senior Scholar Athlete in each of the 19 varsity sports sponsored by the conference over the course of the 2007-08 academic year.
