2014-15 Baseball Athletes of the Week Athlete of the Week - Tommy Trotter, Scranton April 27, 2015 (Fr., OF, Cranford, N.J.) Trotter hit .667 as the Royals swept Drew to claim the top seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs and extend their conference winning streak to 11. In the opener, a 7-5 win, he went 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored, and he followed that with a 2-for-3 performance with an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's second game. On Sunday, Trotter led off the game with a double and scored, giving him six hits in his first seven at bats of the series. He also made three stellar defensive plays on the weekend, running down balls at the fence in right-center field twice, and making a diving catch on a sinking liner in left center. Pitcher of the Week - Kevin Elwell, Elizabethtown April 27, 2015 (So., RHP, Clarks Summit, Pa.) Elwell turned in his second complete game, two-hit, shutout of the season as Elizabethtown beat Susquehanna 1-0 in game two Saturday to lock up a Landmark Championship berth. Elwell was also on the bump March 22 when the Blue Jays defeated Catholic, 1-0, despite getting one hit. Elwell was on point against the Crusaders, walking none and striking out four in one of the biggest games of the year. He has delivered four quality starts in 2015. This is the second time this spring that Elwell has received AOTW recognition. Athlete of the Week - Mike Miraglia, Drew April 20, 2015 (So., C, Toms River, N.J.) Miraglia extended his hitting streak to five games and hit .571 during the week for the Rangers, which included a 2-1 series win against Elizabethtown to put Drew in a playoff position with three Landmark games remaining. Miraglia's highlight game was a 4-for-4 performance in a 14-1 win at E-Town, where he smashed his first collegiate home run and drove in a total of five runs. During the Landmark series, the catcher drove in nine runs in the two victories and crossed the plate three times. He sported a slash line of .571/.588/.857. Pitcher of the Week - Sean McNamara, Scranton April 20, 2015 (So., RHP, Scarsdale, N.Y.) McNamara was the hero in the Royals' 7-6 victory in 11 innings against Susquehanna that clinched a playoff berth on Sunday. He came out of the bullpen with nobody out in the fifth inning and held the Crusaders scoreless for seven innings, allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out three. The victory was the first of his career. Scranton has won 10 of its last 11 games overall, and the Royals hold a two-game lead over Elizabethtown and Moravian for first place in the conference with three league games left on the schedule. Athlete of the Week - Mike DiDonato, Drew April 13, 2015 (So., OF, Oakland, N.J.) DiDonato batted 7-for-9 with seven RBIs and three runs scored during Drew's three-game sweep of Catholic over the weekend. His top performance came in the series opener, when he finished 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, five RBIs and two runs scored in a 10-7 victory. DiDonato added a pair of walks to help register a .692 on-base percentage across Drew's five games last week. Pitcher of the Week - Matthew Hunter, Drew April 13, 2015 (Sr., RHP, Forest Hills, N.Y.) Senior closer Matthew Hunter factored into the end of every game during the Rangers' three-game Landmark series sweep against Catholic over the weekend. Hunter saved both victories in the Saturday doubleheader, then picked up the win in the series finale as Drew walked off with a run in the bottom of the ninth. He hurled 2 2/3 innings in his three appearances, allowing one hit and one walk. Only two unearned runs in the series finale prevented Hunter from picking up saves in all three games. Athlete of the Week - Kyle Fackler, Elizabethtown April 06, 2015 (So., 2B, Harrisburg, Pa.) Fackler hit .478 (11-for-27) this past week and came up with a pair of walk-off hits in a doubleheader sweep of Scranton Thursday. Fackler drove in Brennan Snyder with the game-winning single in game one against the Royals, as the Blue Jays rallied from 3-2 down in the seventh to win 4-3. In game two, his two-run double to right field gave E-town a 6-5 walk-off. Fackler finished the week with four straight multi-hit games, including a 3-for-5 effort in game two against Scranton. He hit three doubles and drove in eight runs, while walking six times for an on base percentage of .600. The Harrisburg native had two-RBI games in three straight to end the week, including both halves of a doubleheader sweep of Juniata Saturday. This is his second time earning AOTW recognition this spring. Pitcher of the Week - Patrick Morgan, USMMA April 06, 2015 (So., LHP, Roxboro, N.C.) Morgan tossed a complete game shutout victory on Saturday in the Mariners' first game against Scranton. He allowed just four hits in the game, a 6-0 USMMA win, and also struck out nine Royal batters, including eight who were caught looking at the third strike. He moved to 2-1 overall on the season with a 2.83 earned-run average over 28 2/3 innings. Athlete of the Week - Zach Leone, Susquehanna March 30, 2015 (So., C, Pelham, N.Y.) Leone started all six games last week as the Crusaders went 6-0 and moved into first place in the Landmark with a 6-2 conference record. He hit for a .429 average with nine hits, three runs scored and 11 RBI. Two of his hits were for extra bases and he had a .524 slugging percentage with just three strikeouts all week. This season, Leone leads the team in hitting with a .467 batting average. He has a team-high 28 hits and is tied for second with eight runs scored. He also has a team-leading 18 RBI and a .633 slugging percentage. Pitcher of the Week - Spencer Hotaling, Susquehanna March 30, 2015 (Sr., RHP, Selinsgrove, Pa.) Hotaling went 2-0 last week with a 0.75 earned-run average and 10 strikeouts over 12 innings. He tossed the first five innings of Susquehanna's 8-2 win over Juniata on Tuesday, allowing two hits and his only run of the week to go along with three Ks. Hotaling then threw a two-hit shutout in a 4-0 victory over USMMA on Sunday, striking out seven Mariners over seven innings of work. This season, Hotaling is 3-1 with a team-leading 2.40 ERA. He has two complete games, one shutout, 30 innings pitched and 26 strikeouts to just nine walks. This is the second time he has received AOTW accolades in his career. Athlete of the Week - Jacob Sithong, USMMA March 23, 2015 (Fr., OF, Orlando, Fla.) Sithong repeats as AOTW after batting .500 (6-for-12) with four RBIs and seven runs scored during a 3-0 week for the Mariners. He had two hits, three runs scored and a stolen base in USMMA's 11-8 win over Baruch on Tuesday. After going 1-for-3 in the opener, Sithong then added three hits, including two home runs, to power the Mariners to a doubleheader sweep of Drew on Sunday. The second of those tied the game at 8-8 in the sixth inning, and he had a walkoff RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to improve USMMA's Landmark record to 5-0. Pitcher of the Week - Kevin Elwell, Elizabethtown March 23, 2015 (So., RHP, Clarks Summit, Pa.) Elwell tossed a two-hit shutout against Catholic in game one of a doubleheader on Sunday, helping Elizabethtown come away with a 1-0 victory which ensured a series win. He struck out two and walked three over seven innings while picking up his second career shutout and first victory of the 2015 season. The Blue Jays are off to a 10-4 start, including a 2-1 Landmark record. Athlete of the Week - Jacob Sithong, USMMA March 16, 2015 (Fr., OF, Orlando, Fla.) Sithong had a key role in the Mariners' three-game series sweep over Juniata down in Florida this past Friday and Saturday. He was a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs scored and an RBI in the first game. The rookie leadoff hitter went 2-for-4 in game two with a double, one RBI and one run scored, which turned out to be the eventual game-winner. In the final game of the series, Sithong scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning, dashing home from third in a heads up baserunning play to seal the sweep. He was 2-for-5 with two runs and two stolen bases. Game scores in the series were 8-6, 9-6 and 11-10. Pitcher of the Week - Joseph Salzano, Catholic March 16, 2015 (SO., RHP, South Riding, Va.) Salzano made three relief appearances last week, earning two saves and a win for the Cardinals. In his first game, Salzano entered Catholic's matchup with Staten Island facing a bases loaded, no out situation in the ninth inning of a 9-7 game. He struck out two and induced a ground out for the save. Salzano then tossed the final three innings of Catholic's 9-5 win over Hood, striking out four and surrendering only one hit. He concluded the week with three more scoreless innings against Moravian. Salzano escaped a bases loaded situation in the 10th inning, allowing the Cardinals to come away with a walk-off 4-3 victory in the bottom of the frame. Athlete of the Week - Luke Gatti, Elizabethtown March 09, 2015 (Sr., 1B, Columbia, Pa.) Gatti hit .429 (9-21) from the plate with a pair of doubles during Elizabethtown's six victories down in Florida last week. He had a hit in each of those contests and drove in at least one run in five of them. Gatti had eight RBIs for the week and he leads the team with 13 for the season. Pitcher of the Week - Dan Morrin, Moravian March 09, 2015 (Fr., RHP, Doylestown, Pa.) Morrin began his collegiate career with a dominant performance against No. 12 Marietta on Sunday. He tossed six scoreless innings, surrendering only five hits while striking out eight batters. Moravian jumped out to an 8-0 lead, and the bullpen held off a late rally to seal an 8-5 win, the team's second in as many days against a nationally-ranked opponent. Athlete of the Week - Kyle Fackler, Elizabethtown March 02, 2015 (So., 2B, Harrisburg, Pa.) Fackler picked up four hits in his first eight at-bats to begin his 2015 season. He had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and two runs scored in Elizabethtown's 12-0 win over Maritime (N.Y.) on Saturday. Fackler added another double, two walks and two more runs scored in a loss to nationally-ranked Misericordia the following afternoon. Pitcher of the Week - Kristopher Davis, Elizabethtown March 02, 2015 (Sr., RHP, Doylestown, Pa.) Davis had a dominant season debut, striking out 15 batters over 7 2/3 scoreless innings in Elizabethtown's 12-0 victory over Maritime (N.Y.) on Saturday. He allowed only five hits and failed to walk a batter. The 15 Ks easily surpassed Davis' previous career-high of six, and he surpassed his total of 14 accumulated during 50 1/3 innings over the entire 2014 season. Eleven of his strikeouts came on just 73 pitches over the first five innings, and Davis fanned the side in both the second and fifth innings.
