2018-19 Baseball Athletes of the Week Athlete of the Week - Kevin Haag, Scranton May 06, 2019 (Jr., 1B - Ossining, N.Y.) Scranton junior Kevin Haag batted .500 with seven hits including one home run and one double in Scranton's 2-2 (1-1 Landmark) week. He also drew three week, scored four runs, and had four RBI while posting a .611 on-base percentage. Haag went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in an 8-3 win over Elmira on Thursday and added three hits, three walks, two runs scored, and an RBI in a split at Moravian on Saturday as the Royals clinched a playoff berth. Pitcher of the Week - Evan Kulig, Moravian May 06, 2019 (Sr., INF/P - Allentown, Pa.) Moravian senior Evan Kulig earned the win in his only appearance on the mound during a 2-1 week for the Greyhounds, and he became the 19th pitcher in school history to reach 100 strikeouts in the game. Kulig had eight strikeouts in eight innings during the Greyhounds 8-4 win over Scranton to clinch the second seed in the 2019 Landmark Conference tournament. He also had two hits with two runs and and RBI in 10 at-bats during the week and one putout and a pair of assists. Athlete of the Week - Carmine Palummo, Moravian April 29, 2019 (Jr., OF - Chester, N.Y.) Moravian junior Carmine Palummo hit .563 in a 3-1 week for the Greyhounds that saw Moravian clinch a berth in the 2019 Landmark Conference Tournament. Palummo was 9-for-16 during the week with five runs, three doubles, two triples, five RBI and two stolen bases for a .588 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage. He also had five putouts in six changes in right field. Palummo was 3-for-4 with a run and a double in a 12-3 loss to DeSales University before going 6-for-12 with four runs, two doubles, two triples and five RBI in a Landmark Conference series sweep at Juniata College to clinch the team's 10th Landmark Conference Championship berth. Pitcher of the Week - Jendy Castillo, Drew April 29, 2019 (Fr, P - Newark, N.J.) Drew freshman Jendy Castillo tossed a complete-game gem, then earned a victory out of the bullpen over a pair of appearances. He fired a 2-hitter with a career-high 13 strikeouts in an 11-1 victory at Staten Island, carrying a shutout into the ninth before yielding an unearned run. Then in the series finale with Catholic, he came on with two outs in the top of the ninth with his team trailing 7-1, and he struck out the only batter he faced. It would turn out to be enough for the win, as the the Rangers rallied with seven runs in the bottom of the inning. Athlete of the Week - Alex Burman, Susquehanna April 22, 2019 (Jr, - Wallingford, Pa.) Susquehanna junior Alex Burman was just a triple away from the cycle in teh 17-0 shutout against Juniata. The junior went a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate with two doubles, one homerun, and eight RBI. Pitcher of the Week - Ryan Monroy, Susquehanna April 22, 2019 (Fr, P - Berkeley Heights) Susquehanna freshman Ryan Monroy pitched a complete game shutout against Juniata on Sunday. Monroy allowed seven hits while walking just one and struck out 13 batters. The freshman struck out eight of the last nine batters, and never had a batter reach third base. Athlete of the Week - Christian Jones, Catholic April 15, 2019 (Jr., OF - Alamo, Calif.) Catholic junior Christian Jones had a career week for the Cardinals. In four games, the junior outfielder had went 9-for-12 with 10 RBI. He also had three homeruns in the stretch after having just one in his previous two seasons. In the final game of the series sweep over conference foe Moravian, Jones reached base in all five of his at-bats, going 4-for-4 with a walk. In addition to a .750 average, he put together an astounding 1.583 slugging percentage. Pitcher of the Week - Tyson Thrush, Susquehanna April 15, 2019 (Jr, P - Bloomsburg, Pa.) Susquehanna junior Tyson Thrush went the distance for the River Hawks to earn a 5-3 win. Thrush allowed six hits, one earned run, two walks, and fanned five batters. Athlete of the Week - Steve Lorenz, Susquehanna April 08, 2019 (So, OF - Feasterville-Trevose, Pa.) Susquehanna sophomore Steve Lorenz went 7-of-13 for an average of .538 last week. He batted in six RBI with two doubles, one triple, five walks, and two stolen bases to help the River Hawks to a 3-1 week. In the series finale against Elizabethtown, the sophomore hit a big RBI double and scored the winning run in an 8-7 win. Pitcher of the Week - Jeff Serin, Drew April 08, 2019 (Jr, P - Hillsborough, N.J.) Drew junior Jeff Serin earned his third overall, and second straight Athlete of the Week award as he twirled a two-hit complete game, struck out eight, and did not walk a batter in the middle game of the Rangers' 5-1 Landmark Conference victory at Scranton. He retired the first 10 batters of the game and carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, when the Royals scored their lone run. Serin retired the last six batters of the game to finish with his second complete game of the season and the fourth of his career. Athlete of the Week - Zach Lipshitz, Drew April 01, 2019 (Sr, SS - Scotch Plains, N.J.) Drew senior Zach Lipshitz batted .526 (10-for-19) and slugged 1.158 with eight runs, six RBI, and three home runs over four games for the Rangers. He did the the bulk of his damage in a series victory at Juniata, where he hit .571 (8-for-14) and slugged 1.429 while homering in all three games. In an 11-1 victory over the Eagles, he went 4-for-5 with three runs, a triple, and a home run, missing the cycle by a double. Then in the series finale - an 8-6, 11-inning victory - Lipshitz went 3-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer in the top of the 11th that gave the Rangers a three-run lead. The shortstop was perfect on six chances (five assists, one putout) for the series. Pitcher of the Week - Jeff Serin, Drew April 01, 2019 (Jr, P - Hillsborough, N.J.) Drew junior Jeff Serin earned his second Athlete of the Week award as he struck out 10 batters and allowed just one unearned run over eight innings to earn the victory in an 11-1 win at Juniata. He yielded just five hits and two walks while reaching double figures in strikeouts for the second game in a row. Athlete of the Week - Steve Lorenz, Susquehanna March 25, 2019 (So, OF - Feasterville-Trevose, Pa.) Susquehanna sophomore Steve Lorenz had another huge week for the River Hawks, hitting .421 (8-for-19) with one double, two homeruns, and five RBI. On Friday, the sophomore hit the game-winning homerun in the bottom of the 12th inning to lift the River Hawks to hte 5-4 win over preseason, and 2018 Landmark champion Catholic. He added three stolen bases and drew two walks on the week. Pitcher of the Week - Brendon Caraway, Moravian March 25, 2019 (Sr., P - Rieglesville, Pa.) Moravian senior Brendon Caraway picked up two of the Greyhounds four wins in a 4-1 week for the Greyhounds, which was the first half of a 10-game home stand that included a Landmark Conference series sweep of Elizabethtown College. Caraway had a 0.00 ERA, eight strikeouts, three hits and six walks over nine innings in his two appearances. He earned a win in relief in the Greyhounds' 4-2 win over Montclair State University with four strikeouts in two innings of action. Caraway then tossed the first seven innings in Moravian's 13-2 series opening win over Elizabethtown with three hits, six walks and four more strikeouts. Athlete of the Week - Adam Kipp, Juniata March 18, 2019 (Jr., P/1B - Mt. Wolf, Pa.) Juniata junior Adam Kipp helped the Eagles to a 4-2 week, hitting .389 (7-for-18) with two doubles, one triple, one homerun, and 10 RBI. The junior also drew five walks. He hit safely in five of the six games and had two multi-hit performances. Pitcher of the Week - David Gately, Catholic March 18, 2019 (Sr., P - Baltimore, Md.) Catholic senior Brian Gately started and won two games this week, pitching 15 innings and giving up just three earned runs on nine hits. He struck out 10 batters. In a 5-2 over Elizabethtown, Gately pitched a complete game nine-inning performance. Gately threw 94 pitches in nine innings, spreading out five hits and walking just one batter. The Baltimore, Md. native struck out five and gave up just two earned runs in the Landmark Conference matchup. Athlete of the Week - Max Felsenstein, Drew March 11, 2019 (Jr, OF - Glen Rock, N.J.) Drew junior Max Felsenstein hit .444 (4-9) with five RBIs and a game-winning hit over the final three games of Drew's Spring Break trip to California. His top performance came in a 6-5 come-from-behind win at Occidental in which he finished 3-for-4 with three RBI. Felsenstein also drove in the go-ahead run in that game with a single in the top of the ninth as the Rangers rallied from a 5-2 ninth-inning deficit. Pitcher of the Week - Connor Morro, Moravian March 11, 2019 (Jr., P - Bethlehem, Pa.) Moravian junior Connor Morro made a pair of appearances on the same day of the Greyhounds trip to the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida. He tossed five innings over the two relief appearance, allowing just three hits, an unearned run and a walk while striking out seven batters. Morro tossed three innings with just a hit and five strikeouts in a 2-1 loss to No. 21 Misericordia University. Morro came back in the second game of the day to earn the victory in Moravian's 4-2, 11-inning win over Baldwin-Wallace University with two hits, an unearned run, a walk and two strikeouts. Athlete of the Week - Riley McGinley, Elizabethtown March 04, 2019 (Jr, 2B/SS - Spring City, Pa.) Elizabethtown junior Riley McGinley had a pair of multi-hit efforts on Sunday for Elizabethtown as the Blue Jays swept Muskingum. McGinley had three hits in four at-bats in game one and drove in four runs and scored twice. In the second game, the junior was 2-for-4 with two more RBIs and two more runs scored. He also doubled in each contest as E-town won by scores of 8-6 and 11-8. He was 5-for-8 on the day. Pitcher of the Week - Jeff Serin, Drew March 04, 2019 (Jr, P - Hillsborough, N.J.) Drew junior Jeff Serin spun a seven-inning five-hitter in Drew's 6-1 victory over Whittier on the opening day of the team's Spring Break trip to California. After yielding a run in the first inning, he blanked the Poets the rest of the way, allowing just four base runners. Serin allowed two runners into scoring position over the final six innings, and he helped himself by picking a runner off first. He finished with four strikeouts and no walks. Athlete of the Week - Tyler Kirsten, Scranton February 25, 2019 (Fr., Wallenpaupack, Pa.). Scranton rookie Tyler Kirsten batted .556 with a .600 on-base percentage. Totaled five hits in nine at-bats while scoring two runs, drawing one walk, and stealing one base. Pitcher of the Week - Bobby Hegarty, Scranton February 25, 2019 (Jr., P - Wantagh, N.Y.) Scranton junior Bobby Hegarty turned in a strong start in Saturday's season opener, tossing five scoreless innings while taking a no-decision against Albright. The junior righty allowed just two hits, both singles, and two walks while picking up one strikeout as the Royals would ultimately drop a tough, 3-2 decision to the Lions at Volpe Field. Athlete of the Week - Bailey Lewis, Catholic February 18, 2019 (Sr., OF - Matthews, N.C.) Catholic senior Bailey Lewis posted two multi-hit games in the team's first two games of the season. He had two hits in each game, going 2-for-3 with a walk. He had four of Catholic's 11 hits on the day, getting on base in six of his eight plate appearances. Pitcher of the Week - Ross Dean, Catholic February 18, 2019 (Jr., P - East Greenwich, R.I.) Catholic junior Ross Dean got the start in Catholic's second game of the season, striking out nine of the 18 batters he faced. He allowed two hits and two runs in four innings of work.
