2020-21 Baseball Athletes of the Week Athlete of the Week - Matt Tesoriero, Catholic May 10, 2021 Catholic junior Matt Tesoriero led Catholic at the plate where he went 7-for-9 in the sweep of Moravian on Saturday. In game one against the Greyhounds, Tesoriero went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two stolen bases. In the nightcap, he was 2-for-4 from the plate with a run scored and one stolen base. On the weekend, the junior hit .778. Pitcher of the Week - Tucker Alch, Catholic May 10, 2021 Catholic sophomore Tucker Alch threw a complete seven-inning shutout against the Greyhounds, allowing only two hits. He walked one and struck out six batters in the win. He improved to 6-0, and holds the second-best earned-run average of 0.81. Additionally, Alch currently leads the conference in strikeouts with 39. Athlete of the Week - Kevin Johnson, Scranton May 03, 2021 Scranton's Kevin Johnson hit .500 (8-for-16) with two doubles, a home run and nine RBI as the Royals put together a big 4-2 week in the midst of the Landmark Conference playoff push. The senior outfielder hit a grand slam and scored two runs in Monday's victory at Susquehanna and closed the week with a 3-for-4 effort with two doubles, five RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 18-2 win at Juniata. The five RBI marked a career-high for Johnson, surpassing his previous career-high of four that had been set on two occasions. Pitcher of the Week - Tyler Dunbar, Elizabethtown May 03, 2021 Senior Tyler Dunbar threw his first complete game since his sophomore season, leading Elizabethtown to a 3-2 win over Moravian on Sunday. The Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania native pitched nine strong innings for the Blue Jays, scattering six hits, striking out eight, and allowing two unearned runs. In five of the nine innings, Dunbar put the Greyhounds down in order. Athlete of the Week - Brett Moyer, Moravian April 26, 2021 Senior Brett Moyer hit .444 last week in a 3-2 week for the Greyhounds that saw Moravian win three of four games in a Landmark Conference series with Susquehanna University. Moyer was 8-for-18 during the week with four runs, three doubles, a homer and seven RBI. He also had three walks for a .524 on-base percentage. In the field, Moyer had 32 putouts in 32 chances and was part of four double plays. Pitcher of the Week - Daniel Johnson, Scranton April 26, 2021 Scranton sophomore Daniel Johnson extended his scoreless streak to 18 innings with a six inning shutout effort in a 4-0 win at Catholic on Saturday. The right-hander scattered seven hits while walking one and fanning five in his six innings of work to lead the Royals to the win in the nightcap of Saturday's twin bill. Athlete of the Week - Andrew Fisher, Elizabethtown April 19, 2021 Senior Andrew Fisher finished the week batting .391 with five stolen bases, helping the Blue Jays to four wins, including the series victory over Catholic. Fisher compiled nine hits, a triple, and eight runs scored to fuel the Etown offense through six games. His highlight of the weekend was game two on Saturday when the senior went 3-3 with three runs scored and a stolen base. The Pottstown, Pa. native leads the conference in runs scored (17) and stolen bases (12), and is second in batting average (.426). Pitcher of the Week - Kelly Holdren, Elizabethtown April 19, 2021 Senior Kelly Holdren finished the week pitching 9 1/3 inning shutout innings, helping the Blue Jays to four victories, including a series win over Catholic. Against Juniata, Holdren pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing one hit and striking out four. He one-upped that effort in Etown's final game of the weekend against the Cardinals, going five innings and striking out seven while giving up two hits. The Millville, Pa. native leads the Landmark in ERA (0.00), wins (4), and K/9 (12.94) and is second in strikeouts (23). Athlete of the Week - Connor Harding, Scranton April 12, 2021 University of Scranton senior Connor Harding matched career-highs in hits (4) and RBI (5) in game one of Monday's doubleheader versus Drew as the Royals cruised to a 20-1 victory. The Vestal, N.Y., native was 4-for-6 with a double, grand slam, five RBI and two runs scored before following that up with a 3-for-5 performance in game two with an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Scranton completed the four-game sweep of the Rangers and has now won six of seven. Pitcher of the Week - Tucker Alch, Catholic April 12, 2021 Catholic sophomore Tucker Alch threw a complete game in the first game against Moravian on Saturday. The Cardinals defeated the Greyhounds 11-1. Alch allowed only one run to cross the plate on seven hits, including only one walk and five strikeouts. He improved to 2-0 on the season with a 1.59 ERA. Athlete of the Week - Dakotah Snyder, Juniata April 05, 2021 Juniata's Dakotah Snyder helped the Eagles to a 3-1 week. The sophomore drove in a run in every game while going 6-for-12 (.500) at the plate. In the game against Catholic, Snyder went 3-for-4 from the plate while driving in four RBI. He smashed two homeruns in that game and scored twice. Snyder scored the game-tying run in the first game against Catholic while hitting .667 (2-for-3). Pitcher of the Week - Daniel Johnson, Scranton April 05, 2021 For the second straight weekend, Scranton sophomore Daniel Johnson turned in a dominant outing as the right-hander allowed just one hit and struck out a career-high nine batters over a complete game, seven inning effort, in Saturday's 6-0 win over Drew. Johnson retired the first 10 batters he faced and now has a 12 inning scoreless streak. The nine strikeouts was also the most by a Scranton pitcher since Brian Markowski fanned nine on March 10, 2018 versus Maritime (N.Y.). Athlete of the Week - Isaac Maclay, Juniata March 29, 2021 Juniata senior Isaac Maclay set a school record for most homeruns in a single game for the Eagles on Saturday. Maclay went 3-for-4 with three homeruns and four RBI in the loss against Susquehanna. He also scored three times. In the 8-6 win against the River Hawks, Maclay hit .333 (1-for-3) with a walk. Pitcher of the Week - Daniel Johnson, Scranton March 29, 2021 University of Scranton sophomore Daniel Johnson made his first career start and tossed five shutout innings as the Royals recorded a 4-0 victory over Moravian in game two of Saturday's doubleheader. The right-hander allowed just three hits to go along with a walk and two strikeouts on the afternoon en route to the program's first shutout since March 10, 2018 vs. Maritime (N.Y.). Athlete of the Week - Brett Moyer, Moravian March 22, 2021 Moravian senior Brett Moyer led the Greyhounds at the plate in the season-opening 3-1 weekend against Juniata College. He hit .462 by going 6-for-13 to go along with five runs, a double, a triple, seven RBI, a walk, a .563 on-base percentage, and a .692 slugging percentage. Moyer opened the season with a 3-for-3 game with three runs, a double, a triple and six RBI, and he added a two-hit game in the first contest on Sunday. Moyer also recorded 36 putouts in the field in 36 chances at first base and was part of two double plays. Pitcher of the Week - Nick Marini, Catholic March 22, 2021 Catholic junior Nick Marini held Drew to just one hit over 6.0 innings while also striking out seven to earn his third career win in his third career start as the Cardinals completed a four-game sweep of the Rangers on Sunday.
