2021-22 Baseball Athletes of the Week

 
  • Athlete of the Week - Ben Watson, Elizabethtown
    April 18, 2022
    Junior Ben Watson had a monster weekend at the plate to lead the Elizabethtown College baseball team to the series win over Catholic. The Glen Mills, Pa. native launched five home runs over the weekend, including three consecutive round-trippers in the Blue Jays' 17-8 series-clinching win against the Cardinals to tie a Landmark record. Watson finished the conference weekend batting .538 with five home runs, a grand slam, 13 RBI, and seven runs scored. He also tallied a .625 on-base percentage and slugged 1.923 in Landmark play. The two losses Watson drove Etown to against Catholic were the team's first two conference losses of the season.
     
  • Pitcher of the Week - Daniel Johnson, Scranton
    April 18, 2022
    Johnson scattered just four hits and fanned seven over 5 2/3 shutout innings in a 6-0 rain-shortened victory over Susquehanna University on Saturday. The junior right-hander remained in the game when the contest was called due to rain with two outs in the top of the sixth inning and Scranton leading 6-0.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Zach Burton, Catholic
    April 11, 2022
    Burton was pivotal in Catholic's 4-0 week, starting and contributing all three games of the sweep against Landmark Conference opponent Moravian. Burton batted at an impressive .615 clip, going 8-for-13 with three doubles, five singles, two walks, five RBIs, and six runs scored. He registered a multi-hit game in each of three games and posted a slugging percentage of .846. Defensively he was solid, playing a part in seven successful double plays and not committing an error.
     
  • Pitcher of the Week - Dillan Weikel, Susquehanna
    April 11, 2022
    Weikel continued to shine on the mound for the River Hawks, as the senior arm went 8.0 strong innings while allowing no earned runs and five hits, striking out seven. In the 5th inning, he fanned the side to earn his 100th career strikeout at Susquehanna. He allowed just seven runners all day, as Susquehanna picked up a 7-1 win over Drew.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Robbie Bertucio, Elizabethtown
    April 04, 2022
    Senior Robbie Bertucio led Elizabethtown to five straight wins this past, including the Blue Jays' first Landmark Conference sweep of the season. The York, Pa. native hit .571 overall with eight RBI. In conference play, Bertucio hit .667 with six hits, four RBI, and three runs scored. He fielded his position perfectly as well, finishing the week with a flawless fielding percentage with 13 assists, including seven in Etown's 3-2 win against Susquehanna Saturday afternoon.
     
  • Pitcher of the Week - Tyler Dunbar, Elizabethtown
    April 04, 2022
    Graduate student Tyler Dunbar tallied a career-high 11 strikeouts, helping the Elizabethtown College baseball team snap a seven-game losing streak to Susquehanna and kick off the Blue Jays' first Landmark series sweep of the season. The Drexel Hill, Pa. native scattered seven hits over eight innings, striking out 11 and allowing one unearned run in Etown's 7-1 victory over Susquehanna.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Corey Zientek, Scranton
    March 28, 2022
    Zientek put together a dominant week at the plate and helped the Royals go 3-0, including a doubleheader sweep of Moravian. The sophomore was 8-for-12 (.667) with two doubles, two triples, a home run, four RBI, and seven runs scored and drove in two runs apiece in both games versus the Greyhounds on Saturday.
     
  • Pitcher of the Week - Dillan Weikel, Susquehanna
    March 28, 2022
    Dillan Weikel helped the River Hawk baseball team to sweep of Juniata College Friday, as he tossed seven strong innings in a 5-2 win in game one. Weikel earned the win as he allowed just six hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Ben Nardi, Catholic
    March 21, 2022
    Nardi extended his on-base streak to 12 games after reaching safely in all four last week. He hit .500 for the week with eight hits in 16 at-bats, totaling four extra-base hits with two doubles and two home runs for a 1.188 slugging percentage. He had two home runs and three RBIs in a 15-8 win over York (Pa.) while hitting .455 with five hits, three walks, four RBI, and five runs in a three-game sweep of Drew to begin Landmark Conference play.
     
  • Pitcher of the Week - Eddie Olsen, Moravian
    March 21, 2022
    Olsen posted a 1-1 record in two outings last week that included nine strikeouts in 10 innings of action. Olsen recorded a 0.90 ERA for the week while allowing one run on five hits and three walks, and he also had a pair of assists in the field. Olsen finished the week with his first career shutout, tossing a four-hitter with seven strikeouts in a 4-0, nine-inning victory over Juniata College.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Peter Giombetti, Catholic
    March 14, 2022
    Giombetti led Catholic with five hits in five games last week while adding six RBI and a .938 slugging percentage as the Cardinals went 5-0. Three of the hits five hits were home runs. He also added four walks and one double.
     
  • Pitcher of the Week - Tucker Alch, Catholic
    March 14, 2022
    Alch pitched his second complete game in four starts this season, allowing just one hit over 7.0 innings while striking out a career-high 12 in a 7-0 victory over Ursinus. He also had no walks.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Robbie Bertucio, Elizabethtown
    March 07, 2022
    Senior Robbie Bertucio helped the Elizabethtown College baseball team during its southern swing this past week. The York, Pa. native finished the stretch batting .455 with 10 hits, seven RBI, three runs scored, and two doubles. Bertucio matched a career-high with three RBI during the Blue Jays' 11-1 win against Houghton.
     
  • Pitcher of the Week - Dillan Weikel, Susquehanna
    March 07, 2022
    Susquehanna's Dilan Weikel picked up his first win of the season on the mound over the weekend as the senior arm threw six strong innings from the River Hawks. Weikel allowed just three hits and one unearned run, while striking out seven batters.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Derek Holmes, Moravian
    February 28, 2022
    Holmes helped Moravian rally from a five-run deficit to post a 12-10 win over Widener University in the opening game of the team's trip to the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational Sunday. Holmes was 4-for-5 in the game with four RBI, two runs, and a homer, his second career home run. He had a pair of putouts behind the plate.
     
  • Pitcher of the Week - Tyler Dunbar, Elizabethtown
    February 28, 2022
    Graduate student Tyler Dunbar pitched eight strong innings, leading the Elizabethtown College baseball team to the 8-3 victory over Piedmont. The Drexel Hill, Pa. native allowed two earned runs on four hits and struck out a career-high 10 batters in the Blue Jays' first win of the season.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Mason Fisher, Moravian
    February 21, 2022
    Fisher helped the Greyhounds to a 1-2 record in a season-opening three-game series at Hampden-Sydney (Va.) College this past weekend by hitting .462 to go with a .692 slugging percentage. Fisher was 6-for-13 at the plate and added a team-high six RBI to go with three runs and a home run. He also had three putouts and eight assists in the field in 14 chances at shortstop. Fisher was 4-for-5 in the season-opener, a 12-11, loss with five RBI and his first career home run. Fisher hit safely in all three games.
     
  • Pitcher of the Week - Tucker Alch, Catholic
    February 21, 2022
    Alch picked up where he left off last season as Catholic split its season-opening series with Cabrini at Talbot Field on Saturday. He pitched a complete game, striking out 11 and walking none en route to a 6-1 victory. The Cardinals' ace only allowed six hits and one unearned run.
