  • Athlete of the Week - Brandon Hedley, Susquehanna
    February 23, 2015
    (Jr., G, Silver Spring, Md.) Hedley poured in 30 points in each of Susquehanna's Landmark victories last week. He shot 10 of 19 from the field, drilling eight 3-pointers, in a 122-76 victory over Goucher on Wednesday that set new conference records in points (122), FGs (49) and made 3-pointers (22). Hedley then set a Landmark record of his own, nailing 10 shots from long distance in the Crusaders' 85-64 win over Elizabethtown on Saturday. He made 10 of 16 long balls, breaking the previous record of eight which was held by four different players. Hedley also had 11 assists to only one turnover last week. He leads Susquehanna with 15.2 points per game heading into Wednesday's semifinal at Scranton.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Kyle Phanord, Catholic
    February 16, 2015
    (Jr., G, Davie, Fla.) Phanord tied the Landmark record for 3-pointers made in a game, drilling eight long balls in Catholic's 100-85 win over Goucher on Wednesday. He finished the contest with a career-high 28 points, hitting 10 of 17 shots overall and 8 of 14 attempts from 3-point range. The victory additionally wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the Landmark playoffs for the Cardinals.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - David Smith, USMMA
    February 09, 2015
    (Jr., G, Lakewood, Wash.) The Mariners continued their recent hot streak on Wednesday, defeating Drew 90-88 for a third-consecutive Landmark victory. Smith played a key role in the win, pouring in a season-high 29 points to lead all scorers. He hit 7 of 12 attempts from 3-point range while playing all 40 minutes. Smith has now scored at least 20 points on seven different occasions in 2014-15.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Matt Miller, USMMA
    February 02, 2015
    (So., G, Augusta, Ga.) Merchant Marine picked up its first two Landmark victories of the season last week, and Miller led the way with 21 points in each of those contests. He shot 10 of 20 from the field in a 77-66 win over Moravian on Wednesday, then nailed four 3-pointers and shot 5 for 5 from the free throw line in a tight 67-62 victory at Goucher on Saturday. Miller has now scored 20 or more points in four games this season, including three of Merchant Marine's last five contests. For the season, he is averaging 14.9 points per game.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Ross Danzig, Scranton
    January 26, 2015
    (Sr., G, Clarks Green, Pa.) Danzig takes home Athlete of the Week honors for the 11th-time in his Royal career after he helped his team snap a two-game losing streak with an 84-57 victory over Moravian on Wednesday. The senior guard tallied 15 points and six assists, moving into 12th on the Royals all-time scoring list with 1,617 points for his career. He shot a season-best 67 percent from the field (6 of 9) in 24 minutes of action.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Jay Howard, Catholic
    January 19, 2015
    (Fr., G, Pennsauken, N.J.) Howard played all 40 minutes in Saturday's 71-65 win over Scranton, posting a game-high 24 points on 9 of 12 shooting from the field as Catholic took sole possession of first place in the Landmark standings. The freshman added six rebounds in the contest, and he currently ranks fifth in the Landmark in points (16.8) and rebounds (6.4) per game. The Cardinals improved to 13-3 overall, 7-0 in the conference, after their seventh-consecutive victory. Howard earns his second AOTW honor of the season.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Brendan Boken, Scranton
    January 12, 2015
    (Jr., F, South Pasadena, Calif.) Boken had a big week as the Royals went 3-0, averaging 17.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.3 blocks. He had 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals in Tuesday's 73-69 win over Drew in the Long Center, then followed that with nine points, 10 rebounds and three assists in a 70-68 win at Susquehanna on Thursday. He capped the week with his second double-double of the season and 12th of his career when he posted 24 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and an assist in a 68-67 win over Goucher on Saturday. He now has 1,061 career points, 36th all-time in Scranton history.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Brendan Boken, Scranton
    January 05, 2015
    (Jr., F, South Pasadena, Calif.) Boken averaged 19.8 points on nearly 66 percent shooting from the field in leading the 16th-ranked Royals to a 3-1 record in a 7-day span. On Saturday, January 3, he became the 42nd player in Scranton history to score 1,000 points in a career with a 21-point effort in the Royals' 75-73 victory over Wilkes University at the fourth annual Cross County Challenge held at King's College in Wilkes-Barre. Less than 24 hours earlier, he scored a game-high 24 points in Scranton's dramatic 86-83 victory in overtime against King's, a game in which the Royals led by 17 points in the second half and overcame a 5-point deficit in the overtime period. He was named the Cross County Challenge most valuable player (MVP). Boken now has 1,008 points in his career.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Mike Klinger, Drew
    December 22, 2014
    (Jr., G, Franklin Park, N.J.) Klinger became the 18th member of the Drew men's basketball 1,000 Point Club with his 25th of 27 total points in a setback to Widener College on Wednesday. The team captain was 8-of-15 from the floor and made 4-of-8 from beyond the arc, while also making all seven attempts from the free throw line. Klinger also grabbed six rebounds, passed out two assists, swiped four steals and only committed one turnover. Klinger reaches the 1,000 career points milestone in under two and a half years and continues to lead the Landmark Conference in scoring this season with 20.4 per game.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Tyler Simpkiss, Elizabethtown
    December 15, 2014
    (Sr., F, Dover, Del.) Simpkiss finished just three points shy of his career-high this past Saturday against Merchant Marine in an 83-61 Jays' win. Simpkiss scorched the Mariners for 27 points on an efficient 9-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. The Dover, Del. native dropped 18 points in the first half, missing only one field goal, to help E-town out to a 46-33 lead at the half. He also added four assists and three steals as the Blue Jays improved to 2-1 in the Landmark standings.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Jay Howard, Catholic
    December 08, 2014
    (Fr., G, Pennsauken, N.J.) Howard led Catholic to a 2-0 start in the Landmark this week with wins over Susquehanna and Moravian. Howard scored a game-high 21 points against the Crusaders on Wednesday to give Susquehanna its first loss of the season. He went 6-for-14 from the field and added six rebounds and three steals. On Saturday, Howard shot 67 perfect from the field on the way to scoring 22 points against Moravian. He tied for the team-high with seven boards.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Sean Cummings, Scranton
    December 01, 2014
    (So., G, Millstone Township, N.J.) Cummings came off the bench and made 8-of-9 shots from the field to finish with a career-high 17 points in 16 minutes of action in the 24th-ranked Royals' 85-65 victory over 18th-ranked Cabrini College on Tuesday. He scored 13 points in the second half to help the Royals extend a 47-30 halftime lead into a lead that grew to as many as 24 points. Cummings previous career-high was a 9-point effort in his first college game, a 95-79 victory over Immaculata on November 15, 2013.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Mike Klinger, Drew
    November 24, 2014
    (Jr., G, Franklin Park, N.J.) Klinger led the Rangers in scoring during a 2-0 non-conference week for Drew that saw its record improve to 3-1. The co-captain netted 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting in an 84-61 win over Bryn Athyn on Thursday, before following up with 17 in the 80-60 victory against Vassar on Saturday. Klinger averaged 34.5 minutes per game during the two wins, and shot 52 percent from the floor. He made five three-pointers, collected nine rebounds, passed out five assists, and turned over the ball just three times during the week.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Justin Klingman, Scranton
    November 17, 2014
    (Sr., G, Clarks Summit, Pa.) Klingman was named the most valuable player (MVP) of the 14th annual Radisson/PNC Bank Invitational this past weekend at the Long Center. He scored 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting in a 57-54 victory over Alvernia in the championship game after scoring 13 points and tying his career-high with six rebounds in a 69-54 win over Centenary on Saturday. Klingman hit two 3-pointers in the final five minutes in the win over Alvernia, which the Royals played for a majority of the game without senior All-America candidate Ross Danzig, who injured an ankle late in the first half and did not return to the lineup. Klingman shot a combined 55 percent from the field in the two games (11-for-20), including 53.8 percent from beyond the 3-point arc.
