2021-22 Basketball Athletes of the Week Men's Athlete of the Week - Chase Husted, Juniata February 14, 2022 Juniata sophomore Chase Husted had an efficient week, helping the Eagles to a 2-0 record and claim the No. 4 seed in the Landmark Men's Basketball Tournament. In the must-win week, Husted averaged 15.5 ppg and 7.5 rebounds. He shot 63 percent from the field (12-for-19). He added two assists, two steals, and one block. Men's Athlete of the Week - Malcolm Newman, Drew February 14, 2022 Newman averaged 20.5 points and 4.0 assists per game while shooting 60.9% from the field and 84.6% at the foul line to help lead the Rangers to their fifth-straight Landmark Conference playoff berth with a pair of road wins. In a 79-69 victory at Scranton, he scored a career-high 26 points on 9-of-12 shooting while handing out five assists. He also scored all six of his team's points during a key 6-2 spurt that helped the Rangers pull away late in the game. Then in a 75-67 win at Juniata, he scored 15 points while shooting 5-of-7 at the foul line, including a pair of key free throws with 42 seconds left that snapped an 11-0 Eagle run. Men's Athlete of the Week - Jackson Danzig, Scranton February 07, 2022 Danzig helped lead the Royals to a 2-0 week as he averaged 23.5 points per game in two contests while shooting an impressive 81% (17-of-21) from the floor. In the wins over Moravian and Goucher, the guard also registered 7.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game. He ended the week with 13 assists, four blocks, and two steals as well. Men's Athlete of the Week - Jack Van Syckle, Susquehanna January 31, 2022 Senior center Jack Van Syckle had one of the most memorable games in recent SU program history, as the big man went for 30 points on 15-of-18 shooting, posting the most field goal makes in over five seasons at Susquehanna. He also registered his first career double-double in that game, adding 12 boards. He finished the week with averages of 18.0 points and seven rebounds as SU went 2-0 in Landmark Conference play. Van Syckle also shot 81.8 percent from the floor, making 18-of-22 while also chipping in three blocks in 27 minutes per game. Men's Athlete of the Week - Jackson Danzig, Scranton January 24, 2022 Danzig averaged 27.0 points per game in a 2-0 week for the Royals, including a career-high 34 points on 12-of-21 shooting in Saturday's victory over Elizabethtown. For the week, the senior shot 55.6% (20-of-36) from the floor and 41.7% (5-of-12) from the three-point range. Men's Athlete of the Week - Alex Dietz, Moravian January 17, 2022 Dietz helped Moravian to a 1-1 record in Landmark Conference action after averaging 18.5 points per game. He also had eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals during the week while shooting 41.7 percent from the floor (10-for-24), 37.5 percent beyond the three-point line (3-for-8), and a perfect 100 percent at the foul line (14-for-14). Dietz had 10 points and five rebounds in a 102-70 loss to Drew University. He finished the week with a career-high 27 points to go with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals in an 84-82 win at Elizabethtown College as the Greyhounds rallied from a 17-point deficit. Men's Athlete of the Week - Danny Frauenheim, Susquehanna January 03, 2022 Danny Frauenheim helped lead the Susquehanna men's hoops team to a 2-0 week, extending its win streak to five games with victories over Haverford College and Catholic University. For the week, Frauenheim averaged 19.5 points on 50 percent shooting, making 54.5 percent from three-point land while adding five assists per game and 3.5 steals a contest. Tuesday in a home victory over Haverford, Frauenheim posted six points, seven assists, and two steals. The senior guard exploded in Saturday's overtime win over Catholic, scoring a career-high 33 points on 11-of-19 shooting, making 6-of-9 from downtown. He also chalked up four rebounds, three assists, and five steals. Men's Athlete of the Week - Howard McBurnie, Drew January 03, 2022 McBurnie was named the MVP of the DeSales University Al Senavitis Memorial Tournament after averaging 17.0 points and 14.0 rebounds per game while shooting 59.3% from the field, leading the Rangers to the tournament title. In a 66-64 come-from-behind victory over Hood College in the first round, McBurnie posted a monster double-double of 18 points and 17 rebounds to go with three steals as the Rangers overcame a 16-point deficit in the final 13 minutes. He followed up with 16 points, 11 rebounds, three steals, three assists, and two blocked shots in the championship game, a 71-54 win over previously undefeated and 24th-ranked DeSales. McBurnie's 10 double-doubles in 11 games place him in a tie for first in all of Division III this season. Men's Athlete of the Week - Ryan Ems, Scranton December 27, 2021 Ems posted the best game of his career at Scranton in a thrilling 84-80 victory over Cabrini in overtime on Monday, scoring a career-high 27 points, while snatching 11 rebounds to notch his first double-double of the season. He shot 71 percent from the floor (10-of-14) and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line to help Scranton pull away in the extra frame. Men's Athlete of the Week - Malcolm Newman, Drew December 20, 2021 Newman scored a season-high 21 points and handed out five assists in Drew's 63-56 victory at Rutgers-Newark, which entered the game with an 8-2 record. He shot 7-for-9 from the field, including 2-for-2 from beyond the arc, and 5-for-6 at the foul line. He scored eight of the team's first 13 points in an early Drew run as the Rangers took the lead for good. In addition, Newman hit four straight free throws in the final minute to make it a nine-point game after the Scarlet Raiders had pulled to within five. Men's Athlete of the Week - Jackson Danzig, Scranton December 13, 2021 Danzig helped the Royals to a 1-1 week as he averaged 22.5 points and 10.5 rebounds. The senior scored 24 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and added five assists and three steals in the win over Franklin & Marshall. Danzig notched another 20-point game in the loss to Penn St. Harrisburg, scoring 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Men's Athlete of the Week - Lukas Yurasits, Susquehanna December 06, 2021 Lukas Yurasits had an efficient week as he shot 13-of-17 from the field and 4-of-6 from three-point territory. Yurasits was the leading scorer in a 13-point win against Wilson College, scoring 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting and knocking down one three-pointer. He also collected six rebounds and two assists. In a 20-point victory over Elizabethtown College to open conference play, Yurasits was 7-of-10 from the floor and hit three three-pointers for 19 points. The senior guard also pulled down seven rebounds in the win. Men's Athlete of the Week - Jackson Danzig, Scranton November 29, 2021 Danzig led the Royals to an 84-71 win over Arcadia in their lone contest last week with a career-high 32 points on 10-of-13 shooting, including a 4-of-5 clip from beyond the arc. He shot 76.9 percent from the field and was 8-of-9 from the charity stripe. He also added six rebounds, five assists, and one block in the win. Men's Athlete of the Week - Jesse Hafemeister, Catholic November 22, 2021 Hafemeister led the team in scoring and rebounding last week as the Cardinals extended their season-opening win streak to six. It is the first time the team has started the season 6-0 since 2011-12. He scored 17 of his season-high 25 points in the second half against Shenandoah as the Cardinals stretched their nine-point halftime lead to as many as 21 with 1:16 remaining. Hafemeister finished the week with 12 points and a career-high nine rebounds against Stevens. On the week, he shot 44.8 percent from the field (13-of-29) while adding one assist, one steal, and two blocks. Men's Athlete of the Week - Tommy Kelly, Catholic November 15, 2021 Kelly led the team in scoring last week, posting two 20-point games and earning all-tournament honors as the Cardinals captured the Battle of D.C. & Maryland championship. He scored a career-high 23 points in the team's 68-60 win over Gallaudet and followed up with a 20-point performance against St. Mary's (Md.) to help the Cardinals win 79-76. He also dished out 10 assists and had seven steals on the week. Men's Athlete of the Week - Tommy Kelly, Catholic November 08, 2021 The Cardinals opened the season with a 57-55 victory over Stevenson Saturday. In making his first career start, Kelly totaled 19 points, just three points shy of his career-high set in a 74-51 win at Moravian on Feb. 14, 2021. The 2021 All-Landmark Conference Second Team selection was 8-of-16 from the floor while adding three assists, two steals, and two rebounds.
