2018 Men's Soccer Athletes of the Week Offensive Athlete of the Week - Alec Aloia, Moravian October 29, 2018 (So., F - Branchburg, N.J.) Moravian College sophomore Alec Aloia put the Greyhounds into the Landmark Conference Tournament for the first time in conference history with his goal in the 97th minute to give Moravian a 1-0 overtime win at Goucher College to close out the regular season. Defensive Athlete of the Week - Brian Gately, Elizabethtown October 29, 2018 (Sr, GK - Lancaster, Pa.) Elizabethtown College senior Brian Gately posted back-to-back shutouts to help the Blue Jays extend their unbeaten streak to 11 games and clinch the top-seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference Championship tournament. Gately stopped two shots in a 1-0 non-conference victory at Muhlenberg last Tuesday. He followed that up with a five-save performance as the Jays and Catholic played to a scoreless draw on Saturday. The draw kept Elizabethtown one point ahead of the Cardinals in the final regular season standings. Offensive Athlete of the Week - Ben Alexander, Catholic October 22, 2018 (So., F - Bel Air, Md.) Catholic University sophomore Ben Alexander led Catholic to a Landmark playoff-clinching win Saturday with a goal and an assist to beat Moravian. He also scored the game winner in the midweek win over Goucher. Catholic has won five straight. Of the three goals the Cardinals scored, Alexander scored two. He also accounted for five of the six points. Defensive Athlete of the Week - Jake Hodlofski, Scranton October 22, 2018 (Fr., GK - West Chester, Pa.) University of Scranton freshman Jake Hodlofski came up big in goal for the Royals, earning a pair of shutout victories as Scranton kept its playoff hopes alive. The freshman goalkeeper made eight saves to blank Drew on Wednesday in a 3-0 win before adding seven saves in a 1-0 victory at Susquehanna on Saturday to finish the week with 15 saves, a perfect 1.000 save percentage, and a .000 goals against average while playing all 180 minutes in Scranton's net. Offensive Athlete of the Week - Gilbert Waso, Elizabethtown October 15, 2018 (Sr, F - Elizabethtown, Pa.) Elizabethtown senior forward Gilbert Waso became the 12th player in program history to score 100 career points and registered the game-winning goal against Scranton in a 2-0 week for the Blue Jays. Waso broke out with a six-point performance in a 5-1 win over Penn State Berks last Wednesday, collecting two goals and two assists. Waso's goal in the 31st minute on Saturday at Scranton helped the Jays to a 2-0 win as they extended their unbeaten streak to seven games (5-0-2) and moved to the top of the Landmark standings. Defensive Athlete of the Week - Daniel Hendry, Goucher October 15, 2018 (Sr., G - Lewisburg, Pa.) Goucher College senior Daniel Hendry was outstanding in net all match against Susquehanna on Saturday, making seven saves in a 1-0 shutout win that kept Goucher's Landmark Conference playoffs hopes alive. He made six of his seven saves in the match in the second half, as Hendry turned away a potent Susquehanna offense to preserve the win. Offensive Athlete of the Week - Garrett Winchilla, Elizabethtown October 08, 2018 (Fr, F - Pen Argyl, Pa.) Elizabethtown freshman Garrett Winchilla scored the only goal Saturday as the Blue Jays defeated defending Landmark Conference champion Drew, 1-0. Winchilla picked a great time to net his third goal of the season --and first career game-winner-- taking a thru ball from Gilbert Waso and striking it off the left glove of Ranger goalkeeper Jason Adamo and into the right side of the net in the 82nd minute. Defensive Athlete of the Week - Brian Gately, Elizabethtown October 08, 2018 (Sr, GK - Lancaster, Pa.) Elizabethtown senior Brian Gately made four saves for his fourth shutout of the season as Elizabethtown knocked off defending Landmark Conference champion and 2018 preseason favorite, Drew, 1-0 on Saturday. Gately stopped two shots in each half as the Blue Jays put together an excellent defensive effort as a unit. They held the Rangers to seven shots --their lowest total of the season-- and just four on goal. Gately hasn't allowed a goal in more than 324 minutes (324:42) dating back to the Alvernia game on Sept. 19, a streak that spans parts of four games. Offensive Athlete of the Week - Aidan Cserhat, Drew October 01, 2018 (Jr, F - Taos, N.M.) Drew University junior Aidan Cserhat scored a pair of second-half goals as Drew rallied from a halftime deficit to beat Catholic 2-1. He tied it in the 60th minute, then buried the game-winner on a breakaway in the 79th minute. Cserhat, who leads the Landmark with nine goals, has helped the Rangers win their last five games. Defensive Athlete of the Week - Ryan LaRocca, Drew October 01, 2018 (So, D - Marlboro, N.J.) Drew University sophomore Ryan LaRocca helped lead a Drew defense that did not allow an offensive goal in a 2-1 victory over Catholic. After the Cardinals scored on an own goal to assume a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute, LaRocca and the Rangers blanked Catholic the rest of the way as Drew rallied with a pair of second-half goals. The Rangers yielded just eight shots (four on goal) for the game. LaRocca also contributed offensively, assisting on Drew's first goal for his first collegiate point. Offensive Athlete of the Week - Anthony Nagy, Moravian September 24, 2018 (Fr., MF - Springfield, N.J.) Moravian freshman Anthony Nagy scored a goal in both of Moravian's matches in a 1-0-1 week for the Greyhounds. He had the first goal in a 2-2, double-overtime draw at Stockton University on Wednesday before netting the tying goal in a 2-1 victory at Juniata College to begin the 2018 Landmark Conference season. Defensive Athlete of the Week - Matt Ellingworth, Susquehanna September 24, 2018 (Jr., GK - Sparta, N.J.) Susquehanna junior Matt Ellingworth earned his second Athlete of the Week honor after he totaled seven saves in two games. He stopped three shots against Wilkes and made four saves in the 0-0 double overtime draw against last year's conference runner-up Elizabethtown College. Offensive Athlete of the Week - Alexi Velazquez, Drew September 17, 2018 (Sr, F - Kearny, N.J.) Drew senior Alexi Velazquez scored the game-winning goal in both of Drew's victories last week. He netted a golden goal in the 102nd minute of the Rangers' 3-2 come-from-behind win at Muhlenberg, then booted in the go-ahead tally in the 59th minute of Drew's 2-1 victory at Manhattanville. Defensive Athlete of the Week - Matt Ellingworth, Susquehanna September 17, 2018 (Jr., GK - Sparta, N.J.) Susquehanna junior Matt Ellingworth totaled 12 saves in two games including five in a 1-0 shutout win against Arcadia on Saturday. Offensive Athlete of the Week - Aidan Cserhat, Drew September 10, 2018 (Jr, F - Taos, N.M.) Drew junior Aidan Cserhat scored three goals and handed out one assist in a 2-1 week for the No. 12 Rangers. He netted the first two goals of the game and later handed out an assist in Drew's 6-0 victory over FDU-Florham. Cserhat also scored the second goal in the Rangers' 2-0 win over St. John Fisher. Defensive Athlete of the Week - Jason Adamo, Drew September 10, 2018 (Jr, GK - Roxbury, N.J.) Drew junior Jason Adamo posted a 0.67 goals-against average and a .867 in a 2-1 week for the No. 12 Rangers. He opened the week with back-to-back shutouts, making three saves apiece in a 6-0 win over FDU-Florham and a 2-0 victory over St. John Fisher. Adamo also turned aside a season-high seven shots in a 2-1 loss at No. 13 Johns Hopkins. Offensive Athlete of the Week - Jon Roberts, Scranton September 04, 2018 (Jr., M - Whitehouse Station, N.J.) Scranton junior Jon Roberts assisted on four of Scranton's seven goals over the weekend as the Royals opened the season with a pair of victories. Roberts set up Scranton's game-winning goal in a 3-2 comeback win over Arcadia on Friday night before record three helpers in a 4-1 victory over Alvernia on Saturday, assisting on Royals' final three goals including his second assist on a game-winning goal in as many games. Defensive Athlete of the Week - Andrew Yeich, Juniata September 04, 2018 (Jr., GK - Middletown, Pa.) Juniata junior Andrew Yeich went 2-0 in the Eagles opening weekend. The junior kept the Eagles in the game against Allegheny, making three stops to help JC to the 2-1 victory. On Saturday, Yeich earned his first shutout of the season, making three saves in the 1-0 win against Wilson.
