2015-16 Men's Tennis Athletes of the Week Men's Athlete of the Week - Juan Lorido (Catholic) May 02, 2016 (Jr., - Miami, Fla.) Needing two wins to secure its berth in the Landmark Conference Championship Tournament, junior Juan Lorido led way for the Cardinals as they downed Drew and Susquehanna to clinch the No. 3 seed. Lorido was fantastic, competing in the top spot for the Cards and coming up with four wins and no losses. Men's Athlete of the Week - Jack Hodges (Goucher) April 25, 2016 (So., - London, England) Sophomore Jack Hodges extended his winning streak in singles competition to nine matches over the weekend. He won in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) against Elizabethtown and USMAA at the No. 2 singles spot before teaming with Midori Fujitani at No. 2 doubles to win 8-3 against the Blue Jays and Mariners. Hodges posted an overall record of 14-4, including an 8-1 record at No. 2 singles. Men's Athlete of the Week - Juan Lorido (Catholic) April 18, 2016 (Jr., - Miami, Fla.) The Cardinals have now won two-straight conference battles as junior No. 1 Juan Lorido led the way at Elizabethtown, winning twice in Catholic's 6-3 win. The Miami, Fla., native won 6-1, 6-3 in singles action and combined with senior Rocky Alhaqbani to take the top doubles match, 8-3. Alhaqbani also won his singles match at No. 4, 7-5, 6-2. Men's Athlete of the Week - John Wylie (Moravian) April 11, 2016 (Senior, - Schnecksville, Pa.) Wylie helped Moravian to a 2-0 week in Landmark Conference action as he won both of his second singles matches in straight sets including the clinching point in Moravian's 5-4 win over Drew last Wednesday. Wylie also combined with senior Matt Tuorto for a pair of doubles victories at first doubles as the duo improved their school record total to 49 career doubles wins. Men's Athlete of the Week - Matthew Hornbaker (Elizabethtown) April 04, 2016 (Jr., - Ambler, Pa.) Elizabethtown junior Matthew Hornbaker went unbeaten in six matches last week as the Blue Jays finished 2-1 with victories over Lebanon Valley and Drew. Thursday at Lebanon Valley, Hornbaker defeated Jordan Heavel in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, while posting an 8-4 win in doubles. He would take down Drew's Chris Morville in straight sets Saturday 6-3, 6-0. Sunday in a tough 5-4 loss at Merchant Marine, Hornbaker did his part to help the Jays by teaming with Dowling to pick up an 8-5 win over Josh Levitas and Alec De Ryckere in doubles and rallying to beat Levitas in singles 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Men's Athlete of the Week - Midori Fujitani (Goucher) March 28, 2016 (Jr., - Tokyo, Japan) Goucher junior Midori Fujitani extended his winning streak to four in singles play over the weekend. Against Stevenson, he picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win in singles action to help the Gophers win the match 6-3. In the conference opener agaisnt Susquehanna, the junior won 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 4 singles spot and partnered with Jack Hodges to win No. 2 doubles 8-1. In the final match of the week, Fujitani won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles to help secure the 9-0 victory. On the season, he is 10-2 in singles action. Friday Focus with Dean Polisena March 25, 2016 The Landmark Conference is full of talented student-athletes and the "Friday Focus" is just one way fans can get to know them. This week the conference introduces Dean Polisena, Juniata's men's tennis student-athlete. Men's Athlete of the Week - Seth Hoesman (Goucher) March 21, 2016 (Sr., - Ellicott City, Md.) Senior Seth Hoesman extended his winning streak to six matches in sigles play last week. Against Bridgewater, Hoesman won i straight sets (6-4, 6-1) at No. 3 singles, and paired with doubles partner Joey Caracappa to win 8-5 in the No. 1 slot. Against Georgetown (Ky.), the senior played at the No. 2 spot where he won 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 (11-9). In the match against Baker, Hoesman won again at the No. 2 spot in three set (3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7)). In the Gophers final match of spring brea, he picked up the win against St. Thomas (Minn.), defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-2. On the season, he has an overall record of 9-1 in singles play. Men's Athlete of the Week - Matt Tuorto (Moravian) March 14, 2016 (Senior, - Verona, N.J.) Tuorto had a perfect week as the Greyhounds went 2-1 during their final three matches in Orlando for Spring Break. Tuorto was 3-0 at first singles and he teamed with senior John Wylie on three wins at first doubles as the duo became the school record holders in career doubles victories against Clark and now has a 47-26 career mark including 8-0 this season. Men's Athlete of the Week - Peter Demyan (Moravian) March 07, 2016 (Freshman, - Bethlehem, Pa.) Demyan helped the Greyhounds to a 1-1 week to begin the spring portion of their season last week. He was 2-0 in singles action with a pair of wins at sixth singles, and he combined with sophomore David Wilson for a 1-1 mark at third doubles last week. Men's Athlete of the Week - Adam Clark (Drew) February 29, 2016 (Sr., - Edison, N.J.) Senior Adam Clark led the Rangers to an 8-1 victory over cross-street rival FDU-Florham in the opening dual match of the season. After taking care of first doubles in a hard-fought 8-5 win, Clark helped Drew sweep singles play with a straight set victory (6-2, 6-1) at the challenging No. 2 spot. Men's Athlete of the Week - Jan Lasota (Catholic) October 12, 2015 (So., - Silver Spring, Md.) CUA men's tennis blanked Hood on the road, 7-0, in early week action. Lasota led the way as the Cardinals' No. 1 singles playing, winning in impressive fashion, 6-1, 6-2. He also combined with Ted Tiu to take the No. 2 doubles match, 8-3. Men's Athlete of the Week - John Wylie (Moravian) October 05, 2015 (Senior, - Schnecksville, Pa.) Wylie had a 3-1 week in action at the 2015 USTA/ITA Southeast Tournament hosted by The University of Mary Washington to close out the fall portion of Moravian's season. Wylie was 2-0 in the B2 Singles Draw with a pair of proset wins. He and doubles partner Matt Tuorto played in the championship flight, falling in a tiebreaker in their first round match before earning a win in their consolation contest. Men's Athlete of the Week - Ben Ornstein (Susquehanna) September 28, 2015 (Fr., - Chappaqua, N.Y. / Horace Greeley) Ornstein dropped just one of four matches, going 2-0 at number one doubles and 1-1 at number one singles. The Crusaders defeated both Alvernia and Lebanon Valley by 7-2 scores. Athlete of the Week - Mike Antonis (Moravian) September 21, 2015 (Junior, - Nazareth, Pa.) Mike was 3-0 in singles action last week with a straight sets win in the Greyhounds' win versus Arcadia to move to 2-0 on the year. He then won a pair of singles contests in the Muhlenberg College Fall Classic. The tournament was individuals only, and Mike competed in the Group B singles with the No. 3 and No. 4 players from Muhlenberg and SUNY Oneonta. Mike and sophomore David Wilson were 1-2 in doubles action with a win in the Arcadia match. Athlete of the Week - C.J. Widdifield (Moravian) September 14, 2015 (Senior, - Westerly, R.I.) Machado didn't lose a single game in singles or doubles to help lead the Royals to a road victory on Sunday. She teamed with freshman Anika Pornpitaksuk for an 8-0 win at no. 2 doubles while the no. 1 team was losing. She then went out and whitewashed her opponent, 6-0, 6-0, at no. 4 singles to lead the charge.
