Drew junior Geoffrey Diehl posted a perfect 4-0 week for the Rangers. He earned a victory at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in Drew's 8-1 victory over Merchant Marine, that logged wins at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles in a 6-3 Landmark Conference victory at Moravian. Men's Athlete of the Week - Vineet Vemulapally, Drew April 22, 2019 (Sr., - Boca Raton, Fla.) Drew senior Vineet Vemulapally went a combined 3-0 as the Rangers split a pair of non-conference matches. In a 5-4 loss to Ramapo, he won at both No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles, then picked up a win at No. 3 doubles in a 7-2 win over Saint Elizabeth. Men's Athlete of the Week - Tetsuya Ota, Goucher April 15, 2019 (So., - Wesley Chapel, Fla.) Goucher sophomore Tetsuya Ota went 3-0 at No. 1 singles including a three-set victory against No. 29 College of New Jersey 4-6, 7-5 and 6-0. In the two conference singles matches, Ota won 6-1, 6-1 against both Catholic and Susquehanna to clinch at least home court in the Landmark Conference semifinals. Ota and teammate Michael Herman also defeated Catholic and Susquehanna 8-1 in doubles play and finished the week 2-1 in tandem play. The sophomore has won eight-straight singles matches. Men's Athlete of the Week - Frankie Fortunati, Catholic April 08, 2019 (So., - Milford, Conn.) Catholic sophomore Frankie Fortunati went 4-0 in two Landmark Conference matches. He went 2-0 at No. 2 doubles with senior Ted Tiu and 2-0 in singles with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Elizabethtown's Tyler Spinello at No. 1 in the Cardinals' 7-2 win over Blue Jays. He also posted a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win over Isaac Schefer at No. 2 singles versus Moravian. Men's Athlete of the Week - Tetsuya Ota, Goucher April 01, 2019 (So., - Wesley Chapel, Fla.) Goucher sophomore Tetsuya Ota went 4-0 in the week against the remaining 2017-18 All-Landmark first team selections. On Saturday, Ota and Michael Herman defeated All-Landmark Conference doubles first teamers from Drew Vineet Vemulapally and Geoffrey Diehl, 8-3 at No. 1 doubles and then the sophomore dispensed of Vemulapally, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles in a battle of All-Landmark Conference first-team singles players. The battle against conference performers continued on Sunday in a rematch of last year's Landmark Conference Championship Match. Ota and Herman defeated Tarq McGurrin, an All-Landmark Conference first-team doubles player and Alex Ochalski, an All-Landmark Conference second-team doubles player last season, 8-3. Ota then took down McGurrin, 6-1, 6-0, who was an All-Conference first-teamer in singles. Men's Athlete of the Week - Slade Dumas, Goucher March 25, 2019 (Jr., - Great Falls, Va.) Goucher junior Slade Dumas went a perfect combined 10-0 in the week between singles and doubles. The junior was 3-0 in the No. 5 singles spot against three teams that participated in the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament and won a match in the national stage last year. In those matches, the Gophers won by getting to five individual victories first and he posted two of those wins in each match including the clinching match against Hope College on Tuesday. Dumas moved up to the No. 4 singles position in his last two matches of the week and the winning continued with a 2-0 mark in that spot. Men's Athlete of the Week - Ben Ornstein, Susquehanna March 18, 2019 (Sr., - Chappaqua, N.Y.) Susquehanna senior Ben Ornstein posted a 3-0 record in singles action at No. 2 as Susquehanna went 2-1 in Florida. He also picked up an 8-4 decision at No. 2 doubles against Lawrence with partner Ryan Seibert. Men's Athlete of the Week - Tetsuya Ota, Goucher March 11, 2019 (So., - Wesley Chapel, Fla.) Goucher sophomore Tetsuya Ota won both of his matches in a 5-4 win against Washington College (Md.) on Friday, including clinching the team victory with his singles victory at No. 1 singles. After Ota and Michael Herman won their No. 1 doubles match 8-6, Ota took his singles match 6-1, 6-1 for the team's fifth win on the day. Men's Athlete of the Week - Daniel Salimnejad, Moravian March 04, 2019 (Fr., - Copenhagen, Denmark) Moravian freshman Daniel Salimnejad was 1-0 in singles action in the Greyhounds first match of the spring season, earning a straight sets victory at second singles versus Penn State Harrisburg in Hilton Head, South Carolina Moravian fell 5-4. Salimnejad also played at second doubles in the match. Men's Athlete of the Week - Tarquin McGurrin, Scranton February 25, 2019 (So., - Clarks Summit, Pa.) Scranton sophomore Tarquin McGurrin got his spring season off on the right foot on Saturday, as he won at the number one spot in both singles and doubles in a 9-0 win at Elmira ... with partner Alexander Ochalski, blanked Elmira's one doubles team, 8-0, then won in straight sets at number one singles. Men's Athlete of the Week - Isaac Schefer, Moravian October 08, 2018 (Sr, - Bushkill, Pa.) Moravian College senior Isaac Schefer had a 4-0 week for the Greyhounds, who went 2-0 to finish the fall season. Moravian defeated Gwynedd Mercy 8-1 in a match started on September 27 and finished on October 1 due to weather before a 5-4 victory over FDU-Florham to finish the fall. Schefer bumped up to first singles for the win at Gwynedd Mercy while dropping to third singles versus FDU-Florham. He won both of his second doubles contests. Men's Athlete of the Week - Will Morrison, Drew October 01, 2018 (Senior, - San Diego, Calif.) Drew University senior Will Morrison went 3-0 in singles play while helping the Rangers go 3-1 over their first four matches of the season. He earned one victory apiece at Nos. 1, 2, and 3 singles, with his only loss coming versus Division I Rider University, who handed Drew its lone setback for the weekend. Men's Athlete of the Week - Llia Buralkin, Juniata September 24, 2018 (Fr., - Moscow, Russia) Juniata College freshman Llia Buralkin had a solid outing in his first collegeiate competition. He went 4-1 on the weekend, winning his only singles match, 8-4 against Randolph-Macon. At No. 1 doubles against Virginia Wesleyan, he teamed with Owen Grafe to win 9-8 against 2017 all-ODAC first team selections. Men's Athlete of the Week - Tarquin McGurrin, Scranton September 17, 2018 (So., - Clarks Summit, Pa.) Scranton sophomore Tarquin McGurrin won both the no. 1 singles and no. 1 doubles championships at this weekend's King's College Fall Invitational. The sophomore won both of his singles matches to claim the title before teaming with Alexander Ochalski to win twice at no. 1 doubles for the Royals. Men's Athlete of the Week - Nicholas Meale, Susquehanna September 10, 2018 (Sr., - Williamsport, Pa.) Senior Nicholas Meale led Susquehanna to a 9-0 shutout against Penn College. Meale won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles and won at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
