2017-18 Women's Basketball Athletes of the Week Women's Athlete of the Week - Veronica Christ, Elizabethtown February 19, 2018 (Fr, G - Pittstown, N.J.) Elizabethtown freshman Veronica Christ has become a key player in the Blue Jays' run at the postseason. E-town picked up two big wins to close out the regular season and clinch the third seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs. Christ had nine points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals in a 66-61 overtime win against Catholic last Wednesday that helped Elizabethtown clinch a spot. On Saturday at Susquehanna, Christ turned it up a notch with her first career 20-point game. She had a team-high 23 points on 9-for-19 shooting including 5-for-8 beyond the arc. She grabbed another four boards, dished out four assists, and came up with three steals and a block in a 81-56 win. Christ averaged 16.0ppg and 4.0rpg for the week as E-town went 2-0 when it needed to. Women's Athlete of the Week - Bridgette Mann, Scranton February 12, 2018 (Jr., G - Canadensis, Pa.) Scranton junior Bridgette Mann led Scranton to a pair of victories, averaging 26.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game as the Lady Royals clinched the top seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference playoffs. The junior guard scored a career-high 34 points and matched a career-best with eight rebounds in a 65-52 win over Drew on Wednesday. Mann then tied for a game-high with 18 points while leading all players with three assists in a 62-43 victory over Catholic on Saturday. Mann shot 53.1 percent from the field, 46.7 percent from three-point range, and 91.7 percent from three-point land on the week. Women's Athlete of the Week - Briana Bull, Catholic February 05, 2018 (Sr., G - Baltimore, Md.) The Catholic University of America women's basketball team won both of its Landmark Conference games this week on the heels senior Briana Bull who completed a double-double against Drew and put a season-high 18 points over Goucher. The Baltimore, Md., native added shot 61.5% from the floor against Goucher and added a pair of rebounds, assists and steals. During the Cardinals matchup over Drew, Bull completed a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds while grabbing seven steals and dishing out two assists. Women's Athlete of the Week - Makenzie Mason, Scranton January 29, 2018 (So., G - Doylestown, Pa.) Scranton sophomore Makenzie Mason had a big week to lead Scranton to a pair of key Landmark wins on the road. The sophomore guard scored 10 points and tied for a team-high with eight rebounds in a 64-51 win at Drew on Wednesday. Mason then scored the game-winning basket with 0.6 seconds left in regulation on Saturday - the final two points of a 13-point effort, which tied for a game-high - in a 46-44 victory at Elizabethtown. Mason also led the Lady Royals with four assists against the Blue Jays. Women's Athlete of the Week - Bridgette Mann, Scranton January 22, 2018 (Jr., G - Canadensis, Pa.) Scranton junior Bridgette Mann averaged 20.0 points per game to lead Scranton to a pair of key Landmark Conference wins. The junior guard scored a career-high 30 points, including the 1,000th point of her collegiate career, to go along with a game-high seven assists, in the Lady Royals' 98-94 overtime win against Moravian on Wednesday. Mann, who shot 40.7 percent from the field and went 13-14 from the free throw line on the week, then added 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists in a 62-50 victory at Catholic on Saturday. Women's Athlete of the Week - Michaela Keegan, Drew January 15, 2018 (Sr., G - Mendham, N.J.) Drew senior Michaela Keegan scored 36 points, the fourth-highest single-game total in program history, in the 81-79 victory at Moravian on Wednesday night. She hit the game-winning layup with 2.0 seconds left, as Drew won at Moravian for the first time since joining the conference and sank a free throw to give the Rangers a 46-44 lead with 1.9 seconds remaining in their upset of No. 17 Juniata on Saturday. Keegan also grabbed nine rebounds against the Eagles. She averaged 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting 53.8 percent from the field in the two games. Women's Athlete of the Week - Payton Smith, Catholic January 08, 2018 (Sr., G., Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) The Cardinals downed Johns Hopkins, 61-54, behind a career-high 25 points from senior Payton Smith. It was the second 20-point game in the past five contest for Smith who hit 6-of-8 shots from the field with 3-of-4 3-pointers and 10-of-12 free throws. She rounded out an impressive line with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. On Saturday, Smith posted a team-high 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting with three assists. Women's Athlete of the Week - Camille McPherson, Moravian January 02, 2018 (Gr., F - West Orange, N.J.) Moravian College graduate-player Camille McPherson was named the MVP of the 15th Roosevelt's Greyhound Classic after averaging 22.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game over the two victories. She connected on 16-of-33 field goal attempts, 5-of-11 three-pointers and 7-of-7 free throws while adding seven assists and four steals in 57 minutes of action. Scranton junior Bridgette Mann's performance over the past week has been arguably the best stretch of an already impressive career. In three victories, she averaged 20.7 points, 4.0 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.0 steals. She went 12-for-25 (48 percent) from 3-point range and capped her week with a career-high 26 points in a 65-60 overtime victory against 17th-ranked Messiah on Saturday. Women's Athlete of the Week - Maddie Capuano, Moravian December 11, 2017 (So, G - Bethlehem, Pa.) Moravian sophomore Maddie Capuano helped the Greyhounds to a 3-0 record as the squad improved to 8-2 heading into the semester break. Capuano averaged 14.0 points, 6.0 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per games while averaging 29.0 minutes per game. Capuano had 22 points, four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals in a 79-73 win over TCNJ, and then she recorded her second career double-double and first with assists as she had 10 points, 10 assists, three rebounds and three steals in an 87-55 win over Immaculata University. Capuano finished the week with 10 points, three rebounds, five assists and three steals in a 65-56 victory over Albright College. Women's Athlete of the Week - Lydia Lawson, Elizabethtown December 04, 2017 (So., G - Mountain Top, Pa.) Elizabethtown went 2-0 this past week, including a big 74-68 Landmark Conference win over preseason favorite Moravian on Saturday at Thompson Gymnasium. Lawson was a driving force in the win over the Greyhounds, scoring a team-high 23 points, one point shy of her career high. Lawson shot 9-for-15 from the floor including a pair of treys and added six steals and five assists against Moravian. A few days earlier, Lawson provided 11 points in a win over Eastern. Lawson totaled eight steals, eight assists, six rebounds and averaged 17.0 ppg during the week for the Blue Jays. Women's Athlete of the Week - Maddie Capuano, Moravian November 27, 2017 (So., G - Bethlehem, Pa.) Morvian sophomore Maddie Capuano recorded her first career double-double with 23 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in the Greyhounds' 62-57 win at DeSales University in the squad's only game last week. She was 6-for-18 from the floor including 4-for-10 beyond the three-point line, and Capuano connected on 7-of-8 free throw attempts including four in the final 27 seconds to seal the victory after her last three-pointer had given Moravian its lead back. Women's Athlete of the Week - Dani Atkinson, Juniata November 20, 2017 (Sr., G - Lancaster, Pa.) Juniata senior Dani Atkinson helped the Eagles to a 3-0 weekend. Atkinson averaged 19.3 points and 2.7 rebounds while adding nine assists, eight steals, and two blocks.
