2018-19 Women's Basketball Athletes of the Week Women's Athlete of the Week - Makenzie Mason, Scranton February 18, 2019 (Jr., G - Doylestown, Pa.) After scoring just six points against Drew on Wednesday, Mason poured in 19 points and pulled down a career-best 18 rebounds to help the Lady Royals clinch home-court advantage in the Landmark playoffs with a 23-point win on the road. The 18-rebound performance was the best for a Lady Royals player in a game since 2013, as the double-double was the seventh of the year for Mason. Women's Athlete of the Week - Lydia Lawson, Elizabethtown February 11, 2019 (Jr, G - Mountain Top, Pa.) Elizabethtown College junior guard Lydia Lawson continued to be the catalyst for the Blue Jays in another pair of Landmark Conference wins this past week. Lawson put up 17 points and nine assists against Goucher in 30 minutes before a 24-point, 7-rebound, 6-assist performance on Saturday at Drew to keep E-town in second place in the conference standings. She averaged 20.5 ppg, 7.5 apg, and 5.0 rpg this past week and shot 46 percent from the floor. Women's Athlete of the Week - Maddie Capuano, Moravian February 04, 2019 (Jr., G - Bethlehem, Pa.) Moravian College junior Maddie Capuano helped Moravian to a 2-0 week by averaging 22.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game on the road in Landmark Conference action. She also shot 14-of-25 from the floor, 4-for-8 on three-pointers and 13-for-14 at the foul line while moving up to 15th in school history with 1,146 career points. Capuano had 20 points, five rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocked shots in 25 minutes of action in a 75-62 victory at Drew University last Wednesday. She then added 25 points, five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals in 33 minutes in Moravian's 80-55 win at Juniata College. Women's Athlete of the Week - Luca Mamula, Catholic January 28, 2019 (Fr., F - Villanova, Pa.) Catholic University freshman Luca Mamula scored a career-high 28 points while adding five rebounds and four assists as the Cardinals led from start to finish in a convincing 83-58 victory over Goucher Wednesday. She scored 13 points in the opening half, going 6-of-6 from the floor in 11 minutes as the Cardinals built a 17-point halftime lead. She pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds, just missing her first career double double with eight points in as Catholic held Moravian to just 19 percent shooting while forcing 22 turnovers and totaling 17 steals in limiting the Greyhounds to its lowest point total in 20 years with a 62-38 win Saturday. Women's Athlete of the Week - Sydney Poindexter, Catholic January 21, 2019 (Jr., F - Clarksville, Md.) Catholic University junior Sydney Poindexter averaged 15.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 blocks in two Landmark Conference contests last week. She had 11 points and five rebounds at Elizabethtown, but she posted her second double double of the season and third of her career on Saturday to lead the Cardinals' rally past Susquehanna. Poindexter totaled 20 points and 12 rebounds, both game highs, while making 10 of 13 free throws, including 6 of 8 in the fourth quarter. She scored eight of the team's 24 points in the decisive fourth quarter. Women's Athlete of the Week - Lydia Lawson, Elizabethtown January 14, 2019 (Jr, G - Mountain Top, Pa.) Elizabethtown junior guard Lydia Lawson averaged 31.0 ppg over her last two and helped the Blue Jays even their Landmark Conference record at 2-2 with road wins at Goucher and Susquehanna. Lawson hit 10-of-13 shots against the Gophers and finished with 25 as the Jays won handily, 81-48. Lawson then put on a show Saturday at Susquehanna with a career-high 37 points, including 13 in overtime as E-town came back from a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat the River Hawks. It was only Elizabethtown's third 30+ point game in the last decade. Lawson shot just shy of 60 percent for the week and averaged 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.5 steals per game. Women's Athlete of the Week - Bridgette Mann, Scranton January 07, 2019 (Sr., G - Canadenis, Pa.) Scranton senior Bridgette Mann had a big week starting last Sunday in the WPI Holiday Tournament. Against Roger Williams, she poured in a season-best 28 points, nailing eight three-pointers, which tied a school record for the most in a single game. She followed it up with a 10 point performance against UMass-Boston on Monday, as she went on to earn MVP honors for the WPI Holiday Tournament. In Landmark Conference action at E-Town Saturday, she tallied 26 points, 19 of which came in the second half. Women's Athlete of the Week - Sofia Recupero, Scranton December 17, 2018 (Jr., F - Whitestone, N.Y.) University of Scranton junior Sofia Recupero went into double figures in all three games the Lady Royals played in on the week, as Scranton moved to 9-0 overall and extended their non-conference regular season winning streak to 41 games. She was named the MVP of the 2018 Hilton Scranton Poinsettia Classic on Sunday, and scored a career-best 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the floor in a 65-53 win over nationally-ranked Ithaca on Saturday. She missed just one shot from the floor in a 10-point effort against Capital on Sunday. Women's Athlete of the Week - Nadine Ewald, Moravian December 10, 2018 (Jr., C - Allentown, Pa.) Junior Nadine Ewald averaged 15.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for the Greyhounds while shooting 15-of-29 from the floor and adding eight assists, four blocked shots and two steals. She had 10 point, four boards and four assists in an 80-65 loss at TCNJ before recording her third double-double of the season and 15th of her career with 20 points and 10 rebounds to go with four assists, four blocked shots and two steals in a 72-65 win over Gwynedd Mercy University. Women's Athlete of the Week - Nadine Ewald, Moravian December 03, 2018 (Jr., C - Allentown, Pa.) Junior Nadine Ewald helped Moravian to a 2-0 week including a 93-92 win over Elizabethtown College to begin the 2018-19 Landmark Conference season as she sank the winning free throw with 3.3 seconds left. Ewald averaged 23.0 points and 10.0 rebounds during the week in 59 minutes of action, and she was 19-for-31 from the floor (61.3 percent). Ewald had 18 points and seven rebounds in a 77-65 victory at Immaculata University. Women's Athlete of the Week - Anise Williams, Goucher November 26, 2018 (Fr., G - West Palm Beach, Fla.) Goucher College's Anise Williams has been one of the top scorers for Goucher throughout the season so far. In the 71-42 win over Notre Dame (Md.), Williams scored 19 points for a shooting average of 66 percent to go along with three rebounds in 29 minutes of action. The rookie also added three assists, four steals, and one block. Women's Athlete of the Week - Maddie Capuano, Moravian November 19, 2018 (Jr., G - Bethlehem, Pa.) Moravian College junior Maddie Capuano helped Moravian to a 3-0 week and the championship of the Kean (N.J.) University Classic were she was named the MVP after averaging 27.7 ppg for the week. Capuano also added 3.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game while averaging 34.0 minutes per contest. She was 27-for-56 from the floor, 13-of-29 on three-pointers and 16-for-19 at the foul line. Capuano started the week with a career high 33 points to go with two rebounds and four assists in 27 minutes during a 71-55 win over Penn State Lehigh Valley. She then had 30 points with four rebounds, five steals and three assists in 37 minutes during a come-from-behind win over the University of Lynchburg (Va.). Capuano finished the week with 20 points, five rebounds and three assists in 38 minutes in a 61-58 win over Eastern University. Women's Athlete of the Week - Karlie Brogan, Moravian November 12, 2018 (Jr., G - Franklin Lakes, N.J.) Moravian College junior Karlie Brogan scored a career-high 21 points as the Greyhounds opened the 2018-19 season with a 58-45 victory at Albright College last Thursday. Brogan was 8-for-14 from the floor and 3-for-3 beyond the three-point arc in the contest. She also had a team-high eight rebounds to go with two assists and a steal in 32 minutes of action.
