2014 Volleyball Athletes of the Week Athlete of the Week - Nakita Gearhart, Juniata November 03, 2014 (So., MH, Waynesboro, Pa.) Gearhart finished the week with 22 kills, eight digs, and six total blocks as Juniata won both of its matches on Saturday. She had a 13 kill, four dig, and three block performance against Otterbein and followed that with nine kills, four digs, and three assisted blocks as the Eagles upset seventh ranked Mount Union 3-2. Gearhart averaged 2.44 kills per set through the two matches and racked up a .302 hitting percentage. Athlete of the Week - Julia Crilly, Scranton October 27, 2014 (Sr., OH, Rochester, N.Y.) Crilly recorded 47 kills, including the 1600th of her career, and had two 'double-doubles' in kills and digs in leading the Royals to three straight wins during the week. She opened the week with 11 kills and 13 digs in a 3-0 win at Penn St.-Berks and then put on a dominating performance in Scranton's 3-1 win over Wells on Saturday, hitting .525 with 23 kills and 13 digs. Crilly came back later in the afternoon to record 13 kills in a 3-0 victory over Rutgers-Camden. She is now 36 kills shy of breaking the Royals' all-time record of 1650 by Anne McGovern (1996-1999). Athlete of the Week - Kelci Scannapieco, Elizabethtown October 20, 2014 (Sr., MH, York, Pa.) Scannapieco had another fantastic week as the Blue Jays ripped off three sweeps. Scannapieco collected 57 kills in nine sets (6.33/set) and hit an unbelievable .588 for the week, including two matches over .600 Saturday. She also added four blocks on the week. Scannapieco recorded her fourth 20-plus kill match Tuesday in a 3-0 win over Albright, and followed that up with 19 against Goucher and 18 against Catholic in Saturday's Landmark crossover. Athlete of the Week - Taylor Kornmann, Moravian October 13, 2014 (So., MB, Ledgewood, N.J.) Kornmann averaged 3.14 kills per set with a .245 hitting percentage in a 1-2 week for the Greyhounds. She totaled 22 kills in seven sets, and added three solo blocks in matches against Haverford, Brooklyn, and Montclair State. Athlete of the Week - Megan Moroney, Juniata October 06, 2014 (Fr., MH, Mentor, Ohio) Moroney helped Juniata earn a 3-0 record this week including two Landmark wins to clinch a spot in the conference playoffs. She averaged 3.33 kills per set and hit .444 in nine sets. The freshman middle added 11 blocks including two solo blocks against Catholic to average 1.22 per set. Athlete of the Week - Julia Crilly, Scranton September 29, 2014 (Sr., OH, Rochester, N.Y.) Crilly recorded 59 kills in four matches this past week to become one of only three players in Scranton history to reach 1,500 in a career. Her efforts helped the Royals to a 3-1 week, with all three wins coming in Landmark Conference play as Scranton improved to 3-0 in league play for the first time since 2008. Scranton is now just five wins away from 20 for the season, a remarkable improvement after winning just 12 matches last fall in Jamie Spangler's first year as head coach. Athlete of the Week - Kelci Scannapieco, Elizabethtown September 22, 2014 (Sr., MH, York, Pa.) Scannapieco was a bright spot for the Blue Jays in a tough week for the team overall. Scannapieco hit .342 and racked up 76 kills (3.80 per set), while setting a new career-high with 25 kills in a 3-2 win at Neumann Tuesday. Her 10-match streak of double-digit kills (including a string of six matches in a row with 17 or more) which started Sept. 5 came to a close Saturday. At the net, Scannapieco totaled 19 blocks (0.95 per set), going over 300 in her three-year career at E-town. Athlete of the Week - Sarah Paluck, Susquehanna September 15, 2014 (Jr., LB, Nesquehoning, Pa.) Paluck racked up 91 digs this week in five matches to average 6.07 digs per set. She added 11 service aces as Susquehanna went 5-0 including top honors at the Lycoming Invitational. Paluck tallied a season-high 24 digs in a 3-0 win against Franklin & Marshall to start the week. With the Lycoming win, the Crusaders have notched three tournament victories this season. Athlete of the Week - Julia Crilly, Scranton September 08, 2014 (Sr., OH, Rochester, N.Y.) For the second straight week, Crilly earned all-tournament honors, this time at the Sea Gull Classic at Salisbury University. The Scranton senior hit. 339 in four matches, including three performances with at least 12 kills. She had two 'double-doubles' in kills and digs, as the Royals went 3-1, with their only loss a 3-1 decision to undefeated Salisbury. Athlete of the Week - Brittani Young, Juniata September 02, 2014 (Sr., L, Columbia, Pa.) Young had a solid weekend for the Eagles at the Red Dragon Volleyball Classic as Juniata went 4-0. In four matches, she totaled 52 digs to average 4.33 per set. Juniata earned four 3-0 victories against Nazareth, Fredonia, Rochester and Medaille. Young racked up a season-high 17 digs against Rochester.
