2015 Volleyball Athletes of the Week

 
  • Athlete of the Week - Taylor Kornmann (Moravian)
    November 02, 2015
    (Jr, MB - Ledgewood, N.J.) Kornmann helped the Greyhounds finish the regular season with a 3-0 week in non-conference action. She averaged 3.62 kills per set while hitting .361 for the week. Kornmann had a total of 47 kills in 13 sets to go with 13 digs, 10 blocks and five service aces. Her 19 kills in a 3-2 win at Wilkes University pushed Kornmann passed 1,000 kills for her career, the 10th player in school history to reach the milestone.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Maria Cristina Juelle (Catholic)
    October 26, 2015
    (So, OPP - San Juan, Puerto Rico) Juelle led the Cardinals to a 2-0 week with 3-0 sweeps of Lancaster Bible and Hood at home inside the DuFour Center. The sophomore opposite side hitter extender here streak of double-digit kill matches to five, posting 11 kills against Lancaster Bible and 14 versus Hood. She put away 14 of 19 attacks in the second match of the day, hitting an impressive percentage of .684 for the game and .512 for the week. She also added two assists, seven digs, three blocks and two aces. Juelle is fourth in conference with 291 kills.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Erin Byrne (Susquehanna)

    (Jr, RS - San Diego, Calif. / Scripps Ranch) Byrne started all three matches, which were all 3-0 Susquehanna victories. She had at least nine kills in each match and with her 11th kill against Frostburg State, she reached the 1,000 kill mark, only eighth player in SU history to do so. She also had 14 assists, 29 digs and seven total blocks. She had a double-double in 3-0 win vs. Scranton (11 kills, 11 digs). This season, has 245 kills (3.50 kps), 66 assists, 209 digs (2.99 dps) and 39 blocks (35 assisted). She missed the first several weeks of the season due to injury. Susquehanna is 19-8 overall, 6-1 in conference play and clinched the No. 2 seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Megan Moroney (Juniata)
    October 12, 2015
    (So, MH - Mentor, OH) Sophomore middle hitter Megan Moroney shined at the Leopard Invitational this weekend. Moroney led Juniata to victories against Whittier, UC Santa Cruz and No. 20 La Verne. She boasted a .537 hitting percentage over the weekend with 39 kills on 67 attacks for a 3.90 kill per set average. Moroney also recorded three solo blocks and six block assists.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Kristin Kirwan (Scranton)

    (Fr, MH - Park Ridge, N.J.) Freshman Kristin Kirwan led the Royals on the attack in three matches on the week, as Scranton clinched a spot in the Landmark Conference tournament with a pair of victories on Saturday against Moravian and Elizabethtown. Kirwan had a season best 19 kills in five-set win against Elizabethtown on Saturday, and now has 178 kills for the year and is hitting .293, posting eight double-digit kill performances (three of which came in Landmark play).
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Erin Byrne (Susquehanna)

    (Jr, RS - San Diego, Calif.) Byrne started all three of SU's matches this week as the team went 2-1, all conference matches. She had 42 kills (4.20 kps) with at least nine kills in each match. She also had 12 assists, 18 digs and four block assists. Against Elizabethtown, she had a double-double with 20 kills and 10 digs. Bryne also had one service ace in each match and finished with a .360 attack percentage. This season, Bryne has appeared in 12 matches and has 143 kills (3.58 kps), 31 assists, 11 service aces, 90 digs (2.25 dps) and 20 total blocks (2 solo). SU is 12-6 overall with a 2-1 mark in league play.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Mar-Jana Phillips (Juniata)

    (Jr, OH - Carson, Calif.) Mar-Jana Phillips has been a stand-out performer for Juniata all season, continuously being someone the Eagles can go to during the match to get a kill. Phillips had 15 kills and a .345 hitting percentage Sept. 18 against No. 3 Christopher Newport. She averaged a .395 hitting percentage over the weekend and totaled 38 kills. She also received Tournament MVP honors.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Janae Moran (Elizabethtown)
    September 14, 2015
    (Fr, RS - State College, Pa.) Janae Moran amassed 41 kills over four matches last week, including a career-high 18 in a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Allegheny Friday evening. The Blue Jay freshman was named to the Lycoming Invitational All-Tournament Team Saturday after helping Elizabethtown win the team title with a perfect 4-0 record. Moran had seven kills, nine digs and two blocks in a four-set loss to a strong Haverford team last Wednesday. Friday she hit .240 on 50 attempts against Allegheny, supplementing her 18 kills with 12 digs for a double-double. She would go for seven kills later that evening in a 3-0 sweep of Lycoming and add nine Saturday morning against Pitt-Bradford, before sitting out the team's 3-0 win over Penn College in the tournament finale
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Nakita Gearhart (Juniata)

    (Jr, MH - Waynesboro, PA.) As one of the team captains, Nakita Gearhart truly led her team in the first week of the season. Her impressive, consistent performance helped push Juniata past No. 4 Wittenberg when the team was down by two sets.
