2018 Volleyball Athletes of the Week

 
  • Athlete of the Week - Kody Dillon, Susquehanna
    October 29, 2018
    (Fr., - Bear, Del.) Susquehanna University freshman Kody Dillon led the River Hawks to a 3-0 weekend to close out the regular season. Dillon recorded 39 kills, two service aces, seven digs, and three blocks. She averaged 3.90 kills per set.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Kristin Kirwan, Scranton

    (Sr., OH - Park Ridge, N.J.) University of Scranton senior Kristin Kirwan had a strong week in leading the Royals to a 3-0 (1-0 Landmark) week. The senior outside hitter totaled a match-high 11 kills to go along with seven digs while playing in just two sets in a sweep of Moravian on Wednesday while breaking the all-time Landmark Conference kills record in the match. Kirwan followed that effort up with an 11-kill, nine-dig effort in a four set win over Gallaudet on Friday before racking up 22 kills and 19 digs in a five-set victory over Lebanon Valley in the nightcap of Friday's non-conference tri-match.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Kristin Kirwan, Scranton
    October 15, 2018
    (Sr., OH - Park Ridge, N.J.) University of Scranton senior Kristin Kirwan totaled 87 kills on the week and averaged 3.63 kills per set and posted three double-doubles as the Royals went 2-3 while facing some of their toughest competition of the season. The senior outside hitter had double-figure kills in all five matches of the week, including 20 in a win over Stevens, who is receiving votes in the AVCA national top-25 poll, and 23 against Stockton as the Royals snapped the Ospreys' 14-match winning streak. Kirwan also totaled 51 digs on the week and had seven blocks and five aces.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Hannah Lyons, Susquehanna
    October 08, 2018
    (Jr., OH/MH - Eldersburg, Md.) Susquehanna University junior Hannah Lyons had 67 kills in a 5-0 week, including wins over No. 16 Johns Hopkins and Landmark Conference foe Moravian. Against the Greyhounds, she had .591 hitting percentage with 14 kills. She followed that up with a .538 hitting percentage against Wesley and 15 kills. In the match against Hopkins, Lyons finished with 13 kills. Against Cabrini, Lyons hit .400.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Marybeth Weihbrecht, Juniata
    October 01, 2018
    (Sr., MH) Juniata College senior Marybeth Weihbrecht led the Eagles to a 3-0 record last week. In the match against DII Clarion, she had eight kills and hit .500. In the two matches against Susquehanna and Moravian, she recorded 18 kills and added nine blocks. The middle hitter totaled 26 kills, 11 blocks and finished the weekend with a hitting percentage of .543. In 46 total attack attempts, she had just one error.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Erin Tiger, Moravian
    September 24, 2018
    (Sr., MB - Port Murray, N.J.) Moravian College senior Erin Tiger became the 12th player in school history to reach 1,000 kills just one week after becoming the 10th player to reach 200 blocks. She had 49 kills (3.5 per set) in a 2-2 week for the Greyhounds and she earned her fourth All-Tournament nod of the year at the Osprey Invitational hosted by Stockton University. Tiger also had 13 block, 13 digs, five service aces, three assists and a .356 hitting percentage during the week.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Marybeth Weihbrect, Juniata
    September 17, 2018
    (Sr., MH - Mechanicsburg, Pa.) Juniata senior Marybeth Weihbrecht had a strong weekend that culminated in a 19 kill match against #15 Cal Lutheran. Her 19 kills tie a career high, qhilw her 26.0 total points are a career high. All of the opponents JC faced were ranked (Wash U. #12, Emory #6, Cal Lutheran #15). On the weekend, she had 32 kills, and 15 blocks. Her eight block assists against Cal Lutheran are tied for fourth all-time in a single match in program history.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Dejia Danhi, Juniata
    September 10, 2018
    (Jr., MH - Ashburn, Va.) Juniata junior Dejia Danhi helped the Eagles to a 2-1 weekend at the ASICS Tournament. The Eagles defeated Christopher Newport 3-0 where the junior had eight kills and four blocks. In the matchup against No. 3 Wittenberg, Danhi recorded 11 kills with five blocks. In the final match of the day, she helped JC take down No. 24 Carnegie Mellon, 3-1 with 11 kills and six blocks. For the weekend, Danhi had 30 kills, four service aces, and 15 blocks.
     
  • Athlete of the Week - Maria Gonzales, Catholic
    September 04, 2018
    (So., S - Ashburn, Va.) Catholic University sophomore Maria Gonzales was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Route 42 Classic after the Cardinals were the only team out of 10 to finish undefeated (4-0). She was one of just two players to start all four matches for Catholic and one of only four to play in all 13 sets. She totaled 10 service aces for an average of 0.77 per set. She also finished second on the team with 33 digs. She totaled 35 assists in a 3-1 win over Lynchburg, two short of her career high.
