2012 Volleyball Athletes of the Week

Kelsey Fuller - Juniata (Sr., OH, Red Lion, Pa.)

Fuller helped Juniata earn its sixth straight Landmark Volleyball Championship on Saturday. In the semifinal, Fuller led the Eagles with 18 kills and 17 digs. She followed it up with her fourth straight double-double in the Championship win over Catholic boasting 12 kills and 14 digs. Fuller committed just five errors on 76 attacks to hit .329 with 30 kills in seven sets.

Marissa Every - Scranton (Sr, LB, East Norriton, Pa.)

Every totaled 100 digs in three matches during the week averaging more than nine per set. She had 41 digs in a 3-1 victory over PSU-Berks on Tuesday, two short of matching her season high. In that win, she became the first player in Scranton history to reach 2,000 digs for her career.

Samantha Savite - Moravian (Sr., RS, Long Valley, N.J.)

Savite helped Moravian to a 3-0 record last week by averaging 4.50 kills, 2.10 digs, 0.50 service aces and 0.40 blocks per set to go with a .317 hitting percentage. She moved into sixth in school history with 1,251 kills in her career and set a new school-record for hitting percentage in a 3-set match with a .762 performance versus Lycoming on Saturday (18 kills, 2 errors, 21 attempts).
Claudia Jean - Catholic (Sr., OH, San Juan, Puerto Rico)

Jean has earned her second Player of the Week award this season after helping the Cardinals to a 3-1 week including a 2-1 performance at the second Landmark Conference weekend. Jean averaged 3.73 kills per set and 5.20 digs per set while hitting .209 this week. She posted three double-double performances in four matches. In a non-conference match against Hood, Jean finished with 16 kills and 23 digs. Against nationally ranked Juniata she posted 18 kills and 32 digs before finishing with 20 kills and 17 digs against Moravian.
Kelly Brown - Moravian (Jr., S, Bethlehem, Pa.)

Brown led Moravian to a 2-0 record last week in a tri-match at Swarthmore with Gettysburg. She averaged 11.5 assists per set to go along with 10 kills, 35 digs and five blocks in eight sets. During the second match, Brown surpassed 1,000 career digs to become just the 11th player in school history to reach the milestone.
Claudia Jean - Catholic (Sr., OH, San Juan, Puerto Rico)

Jean helped Catholic to a 3-0 start in Landmark action this weekend including three double-doubles. In the first match against Scranton, Jean had 15 kills and 19 digs before racking up 21 kills and 38 digs in a four-set victory over Susquehanna. In the final match of the weekend, she added 11 kills and 21 digs for the Cardinals. Jean finished the weekend averaging nearly five kills and eight digs per set while hitting at .242 percent.
 
Christine Sumner - Juniata (So., MH, Dublin, Ohio)

Sumner led Juniata this week with 2.47 kills per set and .341 hitting percentage as the team went 4-1 this week. In the Eagles’ mid-week match against Penn St.-Altoona, Juniata cruised to a 3-0 win with one kill in one attempt from Sumner. She paced the Eagles with nine kills against FDU-Florham in a 3-0 win and tacked on eight kills in a 3-2 loss to No. 23 Salisbury. Sumner finished the week strong on Saturday with a season-high 17 kills to go along with two aces and four blocks in a four-set win over Franklin & Marshall and 12 kills and four blocks in another four-set win against Carnegie Mellon. The Eagles finished 3-1 in the Juniata Invitational and Sumner earned All-Tournament recognition for her performances.
Kelly Crimmins - Catholic (Sr., MH, Falls Church, Va.)

Crimmins helped lead Catholic to a 4-0 week with 23 kills, 18 blocks and four digs. She started the week with three kills and four blocks in a win over McDaniel before adding seven kills and eight blocks versus Ohio Christian. Crimmins tallied a week-high eight kills to go along with two blocks against Lancaster Bible and closed the week with five kills and four blocks against Washington College. The Cardinals did not lose a set as Crimmins finished hitting .373 for the week.
 

Julia Crilly - Scranton (So., OH, Rochester, N.Y.)

Crilly helped lead Scranton to a 5-0 record this week as the team remains undefeated at 9-0. She posted 17 kills in a mid-week win over King’s (Pa.) before earning Most Valuable Player honors at the Scranton Invitational with three double-doubles including 20 kills and 21 digs against Pitt.-Bradford. Crilly finished the week averaging 5.36 kills per set, 4.57 digs per set and .407 hitting percentage.

Jenell McFadden -  Scranton (Sr., OH, Springfield, Pa.)

Jenell McFadden helped lead Scranton to a 4-0 start with 41 kills and 44 digs at the Battlefield Classic at Gettysburg College. She recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 15 digs in a 3-1 win over Mount St. Mary (N.Y.) and added 12 kills and eight digs in a 3-0 victory over Gettysburg as the Royals opened with a 4-0 record for the first time since 2007. She finished the week averaging 3.15 kills per set to go along with 3.38 digs per set.
