2012-13 Women's Basketball Athletes of the Week

Emily Grabiak, Catholic (Jr., G, Haddonfield, N.J.)

In helping lead CUA to its second consecutive Landmark Conference title, junior Emily Grabiak averaged 17.5 points on 50 percent shooting, as well as 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 steals in two tournament wins. Grabiak dropped in a career-high 22 points, including 11 of 14 at the free throw line, in Saturday's win over Scranton in the championship game. The New Jersey native also totaled six boards, seven assists, two steals and no turnovers in 35 minutes of action. In Wednesday's semifinal win over Juniata, Grabiak totaled 13 points on 5 of 8 shooting, five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Jill Woerner, Catholic (Sr., G, Providence, R.I.)

In helping Catholic lock up the No. 1 seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament, Jill Woerner averaged 18.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals in two wins this week. On Senior Day, Woerner scored a game-high 25 points, including a jumper with 1:12 remaining in regulation to give the Cardinals a brief two-point lead, en route to an overtime win over Moravian. Woerner scored three points in overtime, and finished with 10 rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists, while sinking five of six free throws. Earlier in the week, Woerner scored 11 points while battling the flu in a win over Goucher to help CUA set a single season record for wins (23) and Landmark wins (12).
Tamara Kaileh, USMMA (Sr., G, Kings Park, N.Y.)

In three games this week, Kaileh helped guide the Mariners to a 3-0 record, scoring double-figures in each contest. Her 24 points against Juniata set a career-high scoring mark and also helped Merchant Marine achieve their first ever victory against the Eagles. She also averaged just over 20 minutes per game only turning the ball over four times in three contests while shooting 69.2% from the field.
Kate McDonald, Juniata (Jr., F, Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa.)

McDonald helped the team to a 1-1 record this week against nationally ranked competition while averaging 23.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. On Wednesday, McDonald scored 12 points to go along with seven rebounds in a 77-74 loss to No. 13/13 Catholic. She followed up with a career-high 34 points in the upset of No. 19/23 Moravian. McDonald shot 60.9 percent from the floor against Moravian while adding 15 rebounds and four steals.
Courtney Stephens, Drew (Fr., F, Pikesville, Md.)

The freshman forward led the Rangers in scoring in two Landmark Conference wins this week. In Wednesday's victory over Merchant Marine she recorded her fourth double-double of the season with a game-high 15 points and 13 rebounds. In Saturday's rout of Susquehanna, Stephens scored 10 of her 17 points in the second half. She has been Drew's leading scorer in five of the last six games.
Alexis Wright, Moravian (So., F, Shillington, Pa.)

Alexis Wright helped No. 22 Moravian to a 2-1 record last week including a 2-0 mark in Landmark Conference action as the Greyhounds reached the halfway point of their conference schedule at 7-0. Wright averaged 17.3 points and 12.7 rebounds per game in the three contests including 24 points and 13 rebounds in a 60-53 loss to The College of New Jersey. She added 17 points at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and 11 points at Susquehanna to round out the week. Wright had two double-doubles to bring her total to 11 for the season.
Alexis Wright, Moravian (So., F, Shillington, Pa.)

Wright helped the Greyhounds remain undefeated in Landmark Conference action with a 2-0 week including a 62-59 victory over previously-undefeated No. 13/17 Catholic University. In the win over the Cardinals, Wright had her ninth double-double of the year with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Earlier in the week, she scored 19 points with seven rebounds to boost the Greyhounds over Drew. Wright added four blocked shots, four steals and two assists during the week while playing 28 minutes per game.
Laura Jordan, Moravian (Jr., F, Easton, Pa.)

Jordan helped #21 Moravian to a 3-1 record last week, and she was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 12th Annual Moravian Winter Classic. She averaged 13.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game in the four games. Jordan started the week with a career high 13 points and nine rebounds in a win at Centenary College. She then had 12 points, five rebounds and four steals in a victory over Valley Forge Christian. Jordan contributed her second career double-double of a career best 20 points and 11 rebounds along with a career high six blocked shots in a four-point loss to FDU-Florham, the Greyhounds first loss of the season in the championship game of the Moravian Winter Classic. Jordan finished the week by helping Moravian remain undefeated in Landmark Conference action with nine points and ten rebounds in a victory at Goucher.
Latifah Butler, Goucher (Fr., F, Annapolis, Md.)

Butler averaged 28.0 points per game in two games in Las Vegas while shooting 74.2 percent from the field. In a 62-60 win over Adrian, Butler dropped 30 points to go along with 13 rebounds. She is Goucher's first freshman to score at least 30 points in a game since Shadae Swan against Gallaudet in 2005. She has racked up seven double-doubles through the first 10 games this season. Additionally, Butler blocked a shot with under two seconds remaining to preserve the win. She came back and added 26 points and seven boards in a 104-90 loss to North Central (Ill.).
Katie O'Rourke, Moravian (Jr., G, Palmyra, Pa.)

O'Rourke scored a career high 23 points to help lead Moravian from an eight-point deficit with 11 minutes to play to a 64-60 victory over rival Muhlenberg College Sunday. The win pushed Moravian's record to 9-0, the best start in school history. O'Rourke had 11 of her 23 points in the first half. She also had the free throw and a jumper that gave the Greyhounds the lead for good at 55-52 with three minutes to play.
Kate McDonald, Juniata (Jr., F, Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa.)

Kate McDonald led Juniata to wins over DeSales and Eastern this week. In Wednesday’s game at DeSales, she had a game-high 22 points and eight rebounds on 8-for-15 shooting. On Saturday, McDonald scored 19 points on 9-for-13 shooting to lead the Eagles to a 76-59 victory at Eastern. She finished the week averaging 20.5 points per game while shooting 60.7 percent from the field. McDonald was also perfect from the free throw line finishing 7-for-7 this week. She added seven assists and five blocks in the two wins.

Jill Woerner, Catholic (Sr., G, Providence, R.I.)

Jill Woerner led CUA to three wins this week with averages of 15.7 points and 8.3 rebounds in 28 minutes per game. The senior scored 13 points and pulled down nine boards in a 46-41 win over Bridgewater on Monday, and then totaled a double-double with 18 points and 10 boards in a 69-41 win over Salisbury. Woerner sank 8-of-15 shots and both of her free throws vs. the Sea Gulls. Woerner then opened conference play with 16 points on 8-of-16 shooting, to go along with six rebounds in a Cardinals win at Drew on Saturday. Woerner also totaled 10 steals this week, including five at Drew to go along with eight assists, including four versus Bridgewater.

Alexis Wright, Moravian (So, F, Shillingston, Pa.)

Wright became the first player in Moravian history to record a 20-20 game with career highs of 28 points and 20 rebounds in a 69-57 win over DeSales University in Moravian's only contest last week. The Greyhounds held a two point lead at halftime, before outscoring DeSales 44-33 in the second half. Wright missed her first six shots, but went 6-for-11 (54.5%) in the second half to lead Moravian to its fourth win of the season.
Alexis Wright, Moravian (So, F, Shillingston, Pa.)

Wright had an outstanding start to her sophomore season with two double-doubles in three games as Moravian started 3-0. Wright had 19 points and 15 rebounds in a season opening win at Ursinus College. She then tied her career high with 21 points to go along with eight rebounds and three assists in a victory over Elizabethtown College in the opening round of the Terry Greene Memorial Tournament. Wright finished the week with a career high 23 points to go with 14 rebounds and three blocked shots in a win over Lycoming College. Wright shot over 50 percent from the floor in every game, going 25-for-44 in three games, and she was 13-of-22 at the foul line while averaging 26 minutes per game.
