Google Cloud NCAA Division III Academic All-America Team

Elizabethtown College junior Derek Manning made program history on Tuesday after the announcement of the Google Cloud NCAA Division III Academic All-America Team. He landed a spot on the First Team for the second straight season.

No player in team history has ever been a two-time First Team Academic All-America selection until Manning. The East Petersburg, Pa. native had been the first Blue Jay in 23 years to appear on the First Team and the third overall. He joins Gary Yeager, Jr. as the only two-time Academic All-America for E-town.

In recent weeks, Manning has been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District First Team and was a D3baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings Division III All-Region honoree.

According to the official announcement, nine of the 33 members of the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America have a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA, including Manning. The 11 members of the first team have an average cumulative grade point average of 3.97 and the 33 student-athletes that make up all three teams have an average GPA of 3.84. Six are repeat selections from 2018. Manning is one of those having been on the First Team a season ago.

Junior Connor Harding of The University of Scranton baseball team added yet another accolade to his long list of end-of-the-year honors on Tuesday, as the outfielder was named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III First Team. The Academic All-America teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

With a selection to a CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, Harding becomes just the 36th student-athlete in any sport at Scranton and the sixth baseball player to earn the honor from CoSIDA. He is also the 19th student-athlete to earn First Team Academic All-America honors all-time, as well.

Meanwhile, Harding is the first Royals baseball player since 2011 to earn Academic All-American accolades when Chris Stallone and David Giglio accomplished the feat. Harding is also one of just four Royals baseball players to earn First Team honors, joining Scott Sannito (1990), Justin Champagne (2010), and Stallone (2010, 2011). The Academic All-America First Team honor bookends a banner 2019 season for Harding, as the junior led Scranton back to the Landmark Conference playoffs, finishing with a 17-22 overall mark and a 9-9 ledger in the Landmark.

A CoSIDA Academic All-District pick, Harding has also been named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Second Team, while also earning two awards from D3Baseball.com - Third Team All-American honors and Second Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region accolades.

The 2019 Landmark Conference Player of the Year and an All-Landmark First Team selection, Harding recorded a remarkable .464 batting average in 2019, the third-highest mark in Scranton history, while setting program records with 70 hits and nine triples. He also hit eight doubles and three home runs while driving in 34 runs and scoring 46 runs while going 14-for-17 on stolen base attempts.

The Landmark Conference leader in batting average, on-base percentage, hits, and triples, Harding ranked among the nation's top hitters while also logging a .517 on-base percentage and a .695 slugging percentage.
