2017-18 Men's Soccer Athletes of the Week

  • Offensive Athlete of the Week - Brian Galfond, Catholic
    October 30, 2017
    (Jr., F - Gaithersburg, Md.) Catholic junior Brian Galfond racked up six points for the victorious Cardinals this week. He tallied one goal and one assist in both of Catholic's wins this week including the gamewinner in the must-win Landmark game over the University of Scranton. After dishing out an assist against Gettysburg on Wednesday, Galfond controlled a loose ball six-yards out and floated to the top of the net for the equalizer sending the contest into overtime. Catholic clinched a spot in the postseason, on Saturday with a gamewinning score from Galfond in the opening minutes of the game. In the fifth minute, Galfond took a pass from sophomore Bradley Pierro and sent it low into the back-left corner from 25 yards out on the pitch. Later in the 76th minutes, he earned his sixth point of the week when he slotted the ball to senior Nick Joesten who then placed it in the back of the net.
  • Defensive Athlete of the Week - Zachery Tashjy, Catholic
    October 30, 2017
    (Sr., GK - Manasquan, N.J.) Catholic graduate student Zachery Tashjy totaled 14 saved this week to record two wins and claim a Landmark shutout over the University of Scranton. During Catholic's must-win contest with Scranton, Tashjy made six stops including an outstanding diving save in the opening minute to keep the Royals scoreless. The victory punched Catholic's ticket to the Landmark Conference semifinals while knocking Scranton out of the running for the 2017 conference crown.
  • Offensive Athlete of the Week - Andy Imoh, Drew
    October 16, 2017
    (So., F - Sugar Land, Texas) Drew sophomore Andy Imoh had his second multi-goal game of the season at Susquehanna on Saturday. He scored first goal in the ninth minute, then added another in the 15th minute. Imoh also recorded an assist in the 4-0 win, as the Rangers clinched a home game in the Landmark Championships.
  • Defensive Athlete of the Week - Jason Adamo, Drew
    October 16, 2017
    (So., GK - Roxbury, N.J.) Drew sophomore Jason Adamo improved to 14-0-1 with wins over Haverford and Susquehanna. He made three saves in the 2-1 victory over Haverford on Tuesday night and notched his eighth shutout of the season at Susquehanna on Saturday, posting three saves in the 4-0 triumph that clinched a spot in the Landmark Championship.
  • Offensive Athlete of the Week - Aidan Cserhat, Drew
    October 09, 2017
    (So., F - Taos, N.M.) Drew sophomore Aidan Cserhat extended his goal-scoring streak to nine straight games. He tallied both goals in the Rangers' 2-0 victory over Scranton on Wednesday night. He notched first goal in the seventh minute, then put the game away with another in the 88th minute. He capped the scoring in a 3-0 win over Juniata on Saturday with a 68th-minute free kick.
  • Defensive Athlete of the Week - Thomas Burke, Susquehanna
    October 09, 2017
    (Jr., D - New York, N.Y.) Susquehanna junior Thomas Burke assisted the game-winning goal against Juniata (off corner) and scored the game-winner against Scranton (off free kick) from his defensive position and helped the Susquehanna defense record a pair of shutout wins in conference play.
  • Offensive Athlete of the Week - Konrad Bulanowski, Goucher
    October 02, 2017
    (Jr., F - Phildelphia, Pa.) Goucher junior Konrad Bulanowski was a driving force for the Gophers that earned two wins during the week. On Tuesday he earned two points via dishing the ball out for two assists in a 2-1 win. Both assists came on corner kicks late in the game to give Goucher the lead. He also came in clutch against Susquehanna, scoring the game-tying goal late in regulation and the game-winning goal in OT on a PK. This is the first time Goucher has beat Susquehanna men's soccer in program history.
  • Defensive Athlete of the Week - Blake Hammert, Scranton
    October 02, 2017
    (So., G - Archbald, Pa.) Scranton sophomore earned the shutout victory at Elizabethtown on Saturday night, making three saves in a 2-0 win for the Royals. He made a pair of saves in the first half, then another in the second, as Scranton has not allowed a goal at E-Town in almost two seasons (two matches). The shutout was the first of his career.
  • Offensive Athlete of the Week - Aidan Cserhat, Drew
    September 25, 2017
    (So., F - Taos, N.M.) Drew sophomore Aidan Cserhat extended his streak to five consecutive games with a goal over the weekend. He scored the equalizer in the 80th minute of an eventual 2-1, double-overtime victory at TCNJ on Wednesday. Cserhat capped the scoring in the 78th minute of Drew's conference-opening 6-0 win over Elizabethtown on Saturday.
  • Defensive Athlete of the Week - Jason Adamo, Drew
    September 25, 2017
    (So., GK - Roxbury, N.J.) Drew sophomore Jason Adamo allowed just one goal in a double-overtime victory at TCNJ on Wednesday. He recorded his fourth shutout of the season in the Landmark opener against Elizabethtown, who was ranked No. 2 in the conference preseason poll. Adamo made five saves in the 6-0 win.
  • Offensive Athlete of the Week - Gilbert Waso, Elizabethtown
    September 18, 2017
    (Jr., F - Elizabethtown, Pa.) Gilbert Waso accounted for all of Elizabethtown's goals this past week, including a pair of game-winners. In Wednesday's rivalry game at 22nd-ranked Franklin & Marshall, it was Waso's unassisted strike in the 35th minute that stood up to give the Jays a 1-0 victory and their first outright Smith-Herr Boot since 2009. Waso was at it again Saturday at Penn State Harrisburg. He opened the scoring with a goal in the 32nd minute and closed it with the double overtime winner in the 104th minute.
  • Defensive Athlete of the Week - Brian Gately, Elizabethtown
    September 18, 2017
    (Jr., GK - Lancaster, Pa.) Brian Gately allowed a single goal in 193:16 minutes of work as Elizabethtown went 2-0 last week. Gately stopped one shot for his second shutout of the season --and second in a row-- Wednesday at 22nd-ranked Franklin & Marshall. Though he was called upon to make only one save, Gately's aggressiveness on F&M's balls into the box limited some of the offensive looks the Diplomats hoped to get. Saturday at Penn State Harrisburg, Gately made four saves in E-town's 2-1 double overtime victory.
  • Offensive Athlete of the Week - Aidan Cserhat, Drew
    September 11, 2017
    (So., F - Taos, N.M.) Drew sophomore recorded a natural hat trick against local rival FDU-Florham on Wednesday, scoring three times in just under four minutes. He also had a goal and an assist against Whitman on Sunday, notching Drew's first tally before assisting on the game-winner.
  • Defensive Athlete of the Week - Daniel Hendry, Goucher
    September 11, 2017
    (Jr., G - Lewisburg, Pa.) Goucher junior Daniel Hendry went the entire week without allowing a single goal. He faced one shot on goal in hte 2-0 victory against Cairn. In the game against Gwynedd Mercy, he stopped the only shot to help the Gophers to the 1-0 win. He made two saves in the 3-0 win against Rosemony for a total of four saves for the week.
  • Offensive Athlete of the Week - Andy Imoh, Drew
    September 05, 2017
    (So., F - Sugar Land, Texas) Drew sophomore scored the third Drew goal early in the second half of a 6-0 win over Mount Ida on Friday. He recorded two goals and an assist against Hunter on Saturday.
  • Defensive Athlete of the Week - Bryan Yaskowski, Moravian
    September 05, 2017
    (Sr, GK - Hillsborough, N.J.) Yaskowski helped the Greyhounds to a 2-0 mark at the 19th Annual Garnet Alumni Classic hosted by Swarthmore College to open the 2017 season. Yaskowski has started both matches in goal and has not allowed a goal in 172 minutes of action. He had three saves in a 1-0 shutout of Hood College, his sixth career clean sheet, and another three saves while playing the first 82 minutes in a 3-0 victory over Rosemont College.
