TOWSON, Md. – University of Scranton senior Brian Harkins has been selected as the 2019 Landmark Men's Tennis Senior Scholar Athlete.

Harkins becomes just the second men’s tennis player in Scranton history to be named the Landmark Conference Senior Scholar Athlete by matching the feat accomplished by Tim McGurrin in 2013.

Harkins finished his career tied for the most singles wins in program history after going 57-10 in singles competition including a 26-2 mark in Landmark Conference matches.  He had the second highest winning percentage in singles play in Royals history and twice earned All-Landmark Conference Second Team honors for singles.

Harkins was impressive in doubles play as well, finishing with a 36-12 overall record including a 22-7 mark in Landmark Conference doubles action.  His .750 winning percentage in doubles was also the second-best mark in Scranton history for doubles play.  Harkins was a two-time All-Landmark Conference Second Team selection for doubles as well.

During his four years at Scranton, Harkins, who was a two-time University of Scranton Athlete of the Week selection, led the Royals to four straight Landmark Conference playoff appearances capped by runner-up finishes in both his junior and senior seasons.  The team posted a 40-31 overall record while going 22-7 in Landmark Conference matches during his career.

Harkins excelled in the classroom as well.  Earlier this month, he was selected Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's and Women's NCAA Division III At-Large First Teams, as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A three-time Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll award recipient, Harkins holds an impressive 3.80 cumulative grade point average while majoring in accounting and minoring in criminology.
