Moravian Picked to Repeat as Men’s Indoor Track & Field Champions

TOWSON, Md. – The Moravian College men’s indoor track & field team is looking for its 10th straight Landmark Conference title and 11th overall come February. The league coaches have picked the Greyhounds to repeat with six first-place votes and 60 points.

Elizabethtown College finished second in the poll with 45 points and the last remaining first-place vote, while Susquehanna University picked up 32 points to finish third in the poll.

Head Coach Jesse Baumann returns the 2018 Male Indoor Track Athlete of the Year in hurdler/sprinter John Spirk and the 2018 Male Rookie of the Year in sprinter Zion Howard as the Greyhounds look to defend their Landmark Conference title. The Greyhounds return six Landmark event champions and six runners from the two relays champions last February.

Elizabethtown returns a core group of its medalists from the 2018 Landmark Indoor Championships, including 60m champion Ean Mann, mile and 3k champion Samuel Gerstenbacher, 5k runner-up Christopher Myers, and bronze medalists, in the 5k, Tyler Alansky, and in the high jump, Tyler Stephenson.

Susquehanna, who placed third a year ago, returns all-conference performer Chris Petraskie, who won the indoor high jump, long jump, and triple jump. The junior is expected to repeat as champion in those three events, and claim his third straight Field Athlete of the Year.

Catholic University was picked fourth in the poll with 20 points. The Cardinals return a core group of medalists from the indoor championships including mile runner-up Joey LaPointe, and bronze medalist in the pole vault Dillon Frawley. Other key returners include Cosmo Pirozzi, Mike Dreitlein, and Jake Marcelino.

Juniata College was picked fifth in poll with 19 points while University of Scranton earned 14 points for sixth. Goucher College rounded out the poll in seventh with six points.

The 2018-19 Landmark Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held at Susquehanna on Saturday, Feb. 23.
