GRAND LAKE, Colo- The IWLCA has announced the 57 student-athletes who were named to one of the 2019 Division III All-American team.
An historic 2019 season for The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team and junior defender Becca Russo continued to be recognized on Monday evening, as she was named to the 2019 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III All-American Team, nabbing a Second Team selection. With her selection to the IWLCA All-American Team, Russo becomes just the second Scranton women's lacrosse student-athlete to earn the recognition from the organization in program history, joining Liz Baumbach, who earned All-American honors after the 2003 season. Russo is also the 70th All-American selection in the history of The University of Scranton athletics programs.
With her selection to the IWLCA All-American squad, Russo is also the first student-athlete (male or female) in Scranton history to be named an All-American in two different sports, as she earned the honor from the United Soccer Coaches in November for her play on the women's soccer team (Second Team All-American).
The selection to the IWLCA All-American team for Russo bookends an incredible 2019 campaign for her and the Royals.
Overall, Scranton finished with their best record in program history at 16-3 and were runners-up in the Landmark Conference. The Royals were also a mainstay in the IWLCA Division III Top 25 for most of the season, ending the regular year 20th in the rankings nationally.
On the season, Russo led the Landmark Conference in ground balls with 74 and was second in caused turnovers with 41. She also helped ignite the offense, ending the year with 79 draw controls, the seventh-best mark in the Landmark. For her efforts, Russo was named to the All-Landmark Conference First Team as a defender for the third straight season, as well, and to the IWLCA All-Boardwalk Region First Team for the second straight season.
Off the field, Russo has also been honored for her work, as she was named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Division III At-Large Team.
