After leading The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team to their best season in program history, head coach Chrissy Trescavage has been honored by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) for her work, as she was named the 2019 IWLCA Division III Boardwalk Region Coach of the Year on Thursday.

Trescavage is one of 16 coaches nationally across three NCAA Divisions (I, II, III) to be selected as a Regional Coach of the Year for 2019. The entire group, along with the three IWLCA National Coaches of the Year, will be honored at the IWLCA Annual Meetings, which will be held in late November in West Palm Beach, Fla.

In her first season at the helm of the Royals program in 2019, Trescavage mentored a Scranton team to an incredible campaign, as the team went 16-3 overall, their best record in program history.

The Landmark Conference runner-up for the fourth straight season, Scranton was a mainstay in the IWLCA Top 25 all season long, eventually ending the year ranked 20th in Division III, marking the first time in program history the team finished the year ranked nationally.

Trescavage's 2019 Royals used an opportunistic offense and a strong defense to 16 victories for the year. In all, the Royals scored in double-figures in all but one game on the season, while allowing single digits goals 10 times throughout the course of the year.

Individually, Trescavage mentored some of the best players in the country and the region in 2019.

In all, Scranton had six players named to the All-Landmark Conference teams, paced by the junior duo of Kate Calabro and Becca Russo, along with sophomore Jill Henson, who were each All-Landmark and IWLCA All-Boardwalk Region First Team picks.

Trescavage also mentored Russo to another historic first, as the junior was named an IWLCA Second Team All-American, making her the first student-athlete in Scranton history (male or female) to be named an All-American in two different sports (women's soccer the other). Russo was also Scranton's first All-American since 2003 and just the second in program history.

Trescavage previously served as the head coach at Misericordia (2013-2016) and Lycoming (2011-2012) before taking over the Scranton program last Fall. In her playing career, she was a standout performer on the field at Susquehanna from 2002 to 2006, scoring 102 goals during her career and serving as a team captain. She excelled in the classroom as well, garnering Mid-Atlantic Conference Academic Honor Roll laurels all four years.
