TOWSON, Md. – After claiming its fourth Landmark title last year, and first since 2013, The University of Scranton was selected as the favorite in the Landmark preseason coaches’ poll, which is voted on by the league’s head coaches.
The defending Landmark Conference champions return the core of a team that went unbeaten in Landmark play last season and won a match in the NCAA Tournament. Despite losing reigning Landmark Player of the Year Julia Frattaroli to graduation, the rest of Scranton's starting line-up from a season ago returns, led by Landmark Rookie of the Year Tatiana Klacko and junior Nastashia DeNunzio.
First-year Head Coach Aaron Wilf returns nearly the entire line-up from the 2018 Moravian College squad that reached the Landmark Conference Semifinals last spring. The squad posted a 4-0 mark during the fall, outscoring its opponents 35-1.
Catholic University head coach Dana Dowd returns four seniors from last year’s runner team, including Landmark Conference Second Team Singles and Doubles honoree Erin Cole. The Cardinals finished the season with an overall record of 13-9, 5-2 in conference play.
Elizabethtown College finished 7-7 last season, its 15th consecutive year of reaching at least .500. A loss to top-seeded Scranton in the 2018 Landmark semifinals put an end to a three-year reign in the conference, but with a host of upperclassmen returning that were a part of those championship teams, the Blue Jays will be contenders in 2019.
Drew University finished in fifth, followed by Juniata College in sixth. Goucher College ranked seventh in the poll and Susquehanna University rounded out the poll in eighth.
