TOWSON, Md. – University of Scranton senior Emilia Jakubek has been selected as the 2019 Landmark Women's Tennis Senior Scholar Athlete.
Jakubek is just the second Scranton women's tennis player to be named the Landmark Conference Senior Scholar Athlete as Emily Walsh also received the honor in 2016.
In singles competition, Jakubek posted a 42-29 overall record that included an impressive 23-5 mark against Landmark Conference opponents. She was a two-time All-Landmark Conference honoree in singles competition, capturing First Team honors this spring after garnering Second Team accolades as a junior.
Jakubek also excelled in doubles competition, finishing her career with a 52-21 overall record including a stellar 22-4 mark in Landmark Conference doubles matches. She collected a pair of All-Landmark Conference nods in doubles play, earning First Team laurels this season following a Second Team nod during her junior campaign.
During the 2017-18 season, Jakubek tied a Scranton single-season records with 16 singles victories and 19 doubles wins as the Royals advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament while establishing a new program record for wins as a team. She also finished her career second in Scranton history in career doubles victories and tied for sixth in career singles wins.
Over the past four seasons, Jakubek led the Royals to a 50-27 overall record including an impressive 23-4 record in Landmark Conference matches. Scranton qualified for postseason competition all four seasons, highlighted by a Landmark Conference championship and NCAA Tournament second round appearance during her junior season.
A standout in the classroom as well, Jakubek was named to the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll all three seasons in which she was eligible for the award. She boasts an impressive 3.81 cumulative grade point average while majoring in biochemistry, cell & molecular biology, and philosophy.
