TOWSON, Md. – After claiming its 11th conference title last season, Juniata College was selected as the favorite in the Landmark preseason coaches’ poll, which is voted on by the league’s seven head coaches.
Juniata and eighth-year head coach Heather Pavlik collected six first-place votes and 60 total points to headline this year’s poll. The Eagles are in search of its 12th straight title crown. Juniata finished its 2017 season 24-9.
The University of Scranton, led by sixth-year head coach Jamie Spangler was picked to finish second in the 2018 poll. The Royals collected the remaining first-place vote and 50 total points. Scranton handed Juniata its first conference loss since 1981 last season. Additionally, the Royals posted a 35-5 record in 2017, a program best.
Susquehanna earned 40 points to finish third in the poll. The River Hawks brings back a group of experience players to the 2018 squad that will be tested with a tough non-conference schedule. SU will face Calvin (No. 2), Ithaca (No. 8), and Ohio Northern (No. 19).
Elizabethtown College and Moravian College tied for the fourth spot in this year’s poll with 24 points. The Blue Jays improved by 12 wins in coach Alex Hinsey's first season, while the Greyhounds seek its third straight return to the postseason under the direction of 28th-year head coach Shelley Bauder.
Catholic University finished sixth with 21 points, followed by Goucher College in seventh with 12 points.
The 2018 starts on Friday, August 31 with five teams in action.
