Elizabethtown Sweeps 2019 Landmark Cross Country Championship Title

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Elizabethtown College men’s and women’s cross country teams claimed their titles today at the 2019 Landmark Conference Championships at Colmar Manor Community Park, hosted by Catholic University.

For the men’s race, Elizabethtown placed seven in the top-20 to earn 24 points and win its sixth title. Moravian College finished in second place after finishing third the last two years with 58 points, as Juniata College followed behind in third place posting 86 points. The University of Scranton was fourth for the second year with 104 points and host school Catholic University placed fifth by gathering 114 points. Susquehanna University rounded out the scoring in sixth place with 147 points.

For the third straight year, Elizabethtown’s senior Sam Gerstenbacher took home the title of men’s Performer of the Year. He crossed the finish line at 26:03.12, just short of his 2018 time of 26:02.81. Other top-14 performers for the Blue Jays included Liam Coverdale in third, Christopher Myers in fourth, Will Schoener in fifth, Colm Smith in 11th and Adam Wolfe in 12th. Moravian’s Greg Jaindl, who placed second, along with teammate Darlyn Fermin, who placed seventh and claimed the Rookie of the Year title, paced the Greyhounds.

On the women’s side, Elizabethtown led the standings with 45 points, followed by Moravian with 57 points, Scranton with 79 points, Susquehanna with 89 points, Catholic with 112 points, Juniata with 138 points, and Drew finishing seventh collected 216 points.

Moravian’s Natalie Novotni was the first to cross the finish line for the second year in a row with a time of 23:03.43 to earn Performer of the Year for a second straight time. Elizabethtown placed four runners in the top-14, Moravian placed three and Scranton placed two. The women’s rookie of the year was claimed by Kallan Carter of Susquehanna who finished in 11th place.
