TOWSON, Md. - Catholic University and The University of Scranton were each honored with two major award categories as the Landmark Conference announced its 2023-24 Women's Basketball Award honorees.
The awards were nominated and voted on by the league's 10 head coaches.
Player of the Year: Anna Scoblick (Catholic University)
Defensive Player of the Year: Kaeli Romanowski (University of Scranton)
Rookie of the Year: Meghan Lamanna (University of Scranton)
Coaching Staff of the Year: Catholic University
Scoblick is the first Cardinal since Michelle DeSantis (2017) to be voted as the league's Player of the Year and is the fourth overall for the program. This season, the sophomore guided the Cardinals to a 25-2 overall record with an even more impressive 17-1 mark in conference play. The 25 wins are the second most in program history, only behind the 27-2 team from 2012-13. A dual threat on both ends of the floor, Scoblick led the team in offensive rebounding, total rebounding (198), and blocks (37) while sitting second in assists (68), and third in steals (36). She was also second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.5 points per game.
Romanowski's Defensive Player of the Year selection is the fourth time in the last six seasons a Lady Royal has been awarded the honor and the second straight season for the Scranton women's basketball program. The sophomore, who helped the Lady Royals clinch the program's ninth straight championship title, leads a staunch defensive that allows opponents only 46.7 points per game. Romanowski plays a vital role in limiting Scranton's opposition, averaging a league-leading 3.3 steals per game for 85 total.
It is back-to-back Rookie of the Year selections for the Lady Royals, with this year's honor being awarded to Meghan Lamanna. The first-year, who joins current teammates Maddie Hartnett (2021) and Kaci Kranson (2023), played in 27 games for Scranton this season, averaging 7.7 points per game.
Led by Matt Donohue, the Catholic University coaching staff earned its fourth Coaching Staff of the Year honor. The Cardinals, who rank No. 10 nationally and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, finished with a 25-2 overall record and the top seed in the conference tournament.
