TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference selects 23 senior scholar-athletes annually, recognizing student-athletes in each sport, and considering both academic and athletic achievements.
Senior Scholar-Athlete History
These honorees must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are chosen by a committee comprising Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, athletic communications personnel, and diversity, ethnicity, and inclusion designees.
Jessica King continues the tradition of excellence for Elizabethtown College women's basketball, becoming the third student-athlete in the last five years to earn the title of Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete, following the footsteps of Emma Hoesman (2018), Lydia Lawson (2020), and Veronica Christ (2021).
Throughout this season, King's impact on the court was undeniable. Starting in 27 games for the Blue Jays, she displayed versatility by averaging 9.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. Notably, she tied for third in assists with an average of 1.3 per game, while leading the team in steals with 43 (1.6 per game) and blocks (32/1.2 per game).
Despite the setback of her freshman season being canceled due to the pandemic, King wasted no time in leaving her mark on the Blue Jays' basketball program. Starting in all 80 games since her debut, she amassed an impressive record, tallying 665 points along with 655 rebounds, 126 assists, 102 steals, and 88 blocks. In recognition of her leadership and performance, she was appointed team captain this past season and earned a spot on the All-Conference Honorable Mention team, as well as being named to the Captain's Round Robin Classic All-Tournament team.
An occupational therapy major with minors in psychology and biology, King has excelled academically, maintaining a stellar 3.97 grade point average. Her academic achievements include being named the college Emergent Scholar in 2022 and receiving the 2021-22 Mary Jean Schmook Graham Occupational Therapy Scholarship.
In addition to her academic prowess, King has been recognized for her commitment to excellence both on and off the court. She was honored as a 2022-23 College Sports Communicator (CSC) Academic All-District recipient and has been named to the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll three times. King's academic achievements extend to her induction into the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society (2020-21) and the Pi Theta Epsilon Honor Society (2023-24).
Beyond her academic and athletic pursuits, King is deeply involved in community service. She volunteers with the Elizabethtown Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SSAC) Special Olympics initiatives and participates in various community service activities, including Elizabethtown College Day of Service, creating school supply kits and blankets for children in need. Moreover, she dedicates 15 hours each week to Hands Across the Street in Columbia, Pa.
King's leadership extends beyond the basketball court, as she served as part of the women's basketball program's leadership council (2023-24) and held the role of President for the Psi Chi Psychology International Honor Society (2022-23).
