Susquehanna Advances to Landmark Semifinals after Beating Etown in PKs

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Susquehanna women's soccer needed 110 minutes and spot-kicks to overcome Elizabethtown in the Landmark Conference quarter-final on Saturday, but Susquehanna stood their ground from the run of play to a 0-0 score before winning 4-2 after a penalty shootout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Elizabethtown applied early pressure to the Susquehanna back three and goalkeeper Katie Henchy, but the Blue Jays were denied by two Henchy saves in the opening 12 minutes.
  • Ava Billmeyer was responsible for the River Hawks' first shot of the game, forcing a central save from Blue Jay stopper Ella Smith.
  • A big chance for Elizabethtown from a 28th-minute corner was hacked off the goal-line, and the River Hawks were able to clear their lines.
  • Henchy made three saves in the early moments of the second 45, and Billmeyer had another shot on target for Susquehanna in the 57th minute.
  • Olivia St. Amand struck the left post just before the hour mark, after Elizabethtown had similarly hit the crossbar in the opening frame.
  • Late chances in the 90 came and went for Chloe Michaels and Billmeyer, but with neither side able to find a breakthrough, the game headed to an additional 20 minutes in extra time.
  • Billmeyer offered the first three shots of extra-time, but was denied three times by Elizabethtown, with one shot blocked and a further two saved by Smith.
  • A last-second effort in the 110th minute by the Blue Jays saw the game head to penalties, where Elizabethtown would defend their side and Susquehanna would shoot first.
  • Morgan Stickley stepped up first for the River Hawks and fired in, but the Blue Jays were equal to the task.
  • Billmeyer was next, and she converted to her left, although Ella Fasnacht restored the deadlock.
  • Michaels also fired past Smith to give Susquehanna a 3-2 advantage, and they would keep it as the third Blue Jay to step up put her effort over the crossbar.
  • Sydney Williams, the team's top scorer in 2025, fired her penalty into the bottom left corner, giving Henchy the chance to be the hero, and she put the River Hawks into the semi-final by making a save to her left.
