This week’s feature highlights Francesco Mattucci, a sophomore on the Catholic University men’s soccer team. From Marvel movie prep nights to his love of competition, Francesco shares what makes his Cardinals experience unforgettable.

What’s your favorite memory of competing for Catholic University?
Defeating the reigning champions, Amherst, in Cortland.

What drew you to soccer originally?
My father. He was a Division I player at Loyola University Maryland.

How do you prepare the night before a big game?
Some teammates and I watch a Marvel movie together.

Favorite class you’ve taken? Favorite professor?
Accounting with Professor Kim.

Who inspires you most on your team, and why?
Charlie Papparella. His love for the game is exceptional. All around great guy.

What’s your go-to hype song?
"Guns n Bells."

Postgame meal of choice?
Pasta and chicken.

Hidden talent most people don’t know you have?
I can name 90 percent of countries’ flags.

Favorite athlete growing up?
Lionel Messi.

First jersey number — and why?
10 — Leo Messi.

First college game — what do you remember?
Losing to Randolph-Macon set the standard for the rest of the year.

Winner.
