Scranton Women's Basketball Defeats Drew in Landmark Semifinals, 68-36

SCRANTON, Pa. -- The University of Scranton women's basketball team earned a spot in the Landmark Conference Championship with a 68-36 win over Drew University in the semifinals at the John Long Center.

How it Happened
  • Drew scored the first bucket of the game but a three from graduate student Maddie Hartnett sparked a 9-0 run for the Lady Royals.
  • Scranton closed the opening period with a 10-0 run to take a 19-5 lead headed into the second quarter.
  • Junior Kaci Kranson scored the first four points of the second period for the Lady Royals to put her squad up 23-6 at the 6:34 mark. 
  • A layup from sophomore Elizabeth Bennett off a feed from classmate Natalie Stoupakis put Scranton up 20 with 2:36 remaining in the first half.
  • Drew closed the first half with an 8-2 run to pull within 14 at the break. 
  • The Lady Royals came out strong to start the second half, as Kranson and fellow junior Kaeli Romanowski scored back-to-back layups followed by a pair of free throws from sophomore Meghan Lamanna to put Scranton up 36-16. 
  • Lamanna drilled a corner three at the 3:10 mark in the third to put Scranton up by 23.
  • Graduate student Kyra Quigley scored the final two buckets of the third quarter to give the Lady Royals a 51-27 advantage heading into the fourth.
  • Sophomore Katie Gorski converted a tough and-one at 8:14 in the fourth to put Scranton up by 31.
  • The Lady Royals maintained a 30-point lead the remainder of the game and went on to win by a final score of 68-36.

Top Performers
  • Kranson scored a team-high 14 and added seven rebounds.
  • Lamanna contributed 13 points and four boards.
  • Bennett added 12 points.

  • Scranton's defense held Drew to 26.2% from the field and forced 22 turnovers by the Rangers.
  • The Lady Royals scored 44 points in the paint.
